Report: Wisconsin in contact with five-star in-state guard, top-30 recruit
Wisconsin basketball has contacted 5-star 2027 shooting guard Dooney Johnson.
Johnson, from Milwaukee, is ranked No. 27 overall in his class by 247Sports.
Numerous top programs, including Kentucky, Indiana, and Gonzaga, have also contacted Johnson.
Wisconsin basketball is in the mix for one of the top high school prospects in the class of 2027.
According to Sam Kayser, the Badgers are part of a large group of programs that have contacted Milwaukee, Wisconsin, shooting guard Dooney Johnson. Other programs on the list are Indiana, Kentucky, Marquette, Washington, Gonzaga, Oklahoma State, Nebraska, Minnesota, LSU, BYU, Cincinnati, Western Michigan, St. Louis, Southern Utah and Bradley.
247Sports lists Johnson as a five-star recruit at this stage of the 2027 cycle. He's specifically ranked as the No. 27 overall player in the class, the No. 3 shooting guard and the No. 1 player from the state of Wisconsin. The in-state Badgers and Marquette Golden Eagles are the clear top programs on his offer sheet as of June 17, though numerous blue-blood programs, including Kentucky, Indiana and Gonzaga, appear to be entering the mix.
The Milwaukee Juneau High School standout also sits at No. 30 in the ESPN60. He has a real chance to surpass class of 2024 five-star recruit Kon Knueppel, who finished the cycle ranked No. 19 in the nation, as one of the state's top players in recent memory.
Johnson's recruitment should be a major storyline as the 2027 cycle picks up steam. Several top-ranked in-state recruits have committed elsewhere over the last half-decade. That includes top-100 class of 2025 prospects Jamarion Batemon (Iowa State) and Xzavion Mitchell (Iowa State), Knueppel (Duke), class of 2023 standout Milan Momcilovic (Iowa State), 2022 point guard Seth Trimble (North Carolina) and 2021 point guard Tyrese Hunter (Iowa State).

Of course, Wisconsin has experienced as much success as the listed programs over the last half-decade, except for Duke. But there remains a question of how much the program's ceiling would be elevated by landing top-tier, NBA-caliber talent. Johnson looks like the next in-state player who could make that a reality.

Indiana Fever update Caitlin Clark injury status, availability vs New York Liberty
With the 2025 WNBA All-Star break concluded, the Indiana Fever provided an injury status update to star Caitlin Clark entering their Tuesday night matchup against the New York Liberty from the Barclays Center in Brooklyn. Clark, who suffered a right groin injury late in the Fever's July 15 victory over the Connecticut Sun, missed Indiana's blowout loss against the Liberty last Wednesday and opted out of the entire All-Star weekend to focus on her recovery. According to head coach Stephanie White, the Fever do not anticipate Clark being made available when they take the floor in Brooklyn on Tuesday. "I haven't seen C [Clark] since the game last night, but I think she's progressing. I think that we're continuing to address everything that needs to be addressed. "I don't expect her to be available on Tuesday, so we're just going to continue to take it one day at a time and let her get her evaluation early this week. Once we've done that, hopefully we'll have more of a clear mind of what it looks like," White said of Clark's status. With Clark most likely unavailable for Indiana, the team will need to rely heavily on Kelsey Mitchell and Aliyah Boston to bear the load on offense with impactful contributions off the bench for the time being. 2025 NBA summer league: Final Houston Rockets statistics in Las Vegas
With Reed Sheppard, Kennedy Chandler, Kevon Harris, and Adonis Arms in featured roles, Houston's run at the NBA's 2025 summer league is now complete. The NBA's 2025 summer league is now complete in Las Vegas, and that means all 30 of the league's teams are entering the quiet part of the offseason. With the NBA's annual draft, initial free agency window, and summer league all in the books, activity is likely to be minimal until training camps for the 2025-26 season open around October 1. The Houston Rockets went 1-4 in five games at summer league, though they did win their finale versus the Minnesota Timberwolves. Second-year guard Reed Sheppard was the roster headliner, but he only played in two games while dealing with mild calf soreness. For Houston, summer-league players who are currently in line to participate at training camp include Sheppard (standard contract), center N'Faly Dante (two-way qualifying offer), forward Kevon Harris (two-way contract), and forward Cameron Matthews (Exhibit 10 training-camp deal). Other players from summer league could be added via similar Exhibit 10 deals, if desired. Colts offensive playmaker named 2025 MVP candidate
All the attention this offseason in Indianapolis has been focused on the Colts' quarterback situation. As a result, one of Indy's most reliable and consistent playmakers has flown under the radar despite having MVP potential. Given how much Indy is likely to lean on him, Eric Edholm selected running back Jonathan Taylor as the Colts' best MVP candidate in 2025. With Taylor having been Edholm's choice in 2024 as well, he's even more confident in the two-time Pro Bowler to be the guy again. 'Taylor was the Colts' best performer in 2024 -- despite the fact that he missed three weeks early in the season and ultimately posted modest receiving totals,' he writes. 'I feel even stronger about the pick this time around, with the Colts' run game being absolutely critical to achieving the level of team success that would produce an MVP candidate in the first place.' Taylor taking home the ultimate individual prize the NFL offers would be a long shot in today's pass-first era of football. In fact, no running back has won the award since Adrian Peterson in 2012, over a decade ago. The Colts adding Khalil Herbert in free agency and drafting DJ Giddens in the 5th round in April also suggest a lesser work load for Taylor. Still, the former Wisconsin Badger is the Colts most likely choice. The 26-year-old has already led the league in rushing yards once in 2021 (1,811) and posted 1,431 yards in 2024, his best total since that league-leading campaign.
