Hans India2 days ago
Mahabubnagar: A strong appeal has been made to the state government to immediately constitute the executive body of the Reddy Corporation and allocate ₹2,000 crore for the welfare of poor members of the Reddy community. This demand was voiced by Thoomu Indrasena Reddy, President of the erstwhile Mahabubnagar district unit of Palamuru Reddy Seva Samithi, during an executive meeting held at the Raja Bahadur Reddy Convention Center on Sunday.
Addressing the gathering, Indrasena Reddy reminded the government of the Chief Minister's earlier announcement about forming a Reddy Corporation for the upliftment of economically weaker sections within the community. He urged the government to grant legal status to the corporation, constitute its executive body, and release sufficient funds for its operations.
He also emphasized the need to implement the EWS (Economically Weaker Sections) reservation policy comprehensively in all central and state-level educational admissions and job recruitments. Highlighting the efforts of the organization, he said that the Samithi has been providing financial aid to poor but meritorious students and extending support for medical expenses to those injured in accidents.
The meeting witnessed participation from key office-bearers across the unified district. Among them were General Secretary Vepuru Rajender Reddy, Treasurer Mallu Narasimha Reddy, Vice Presidents Pasula Dhananjaya Reddy and Venkataram Reddy, Publicity Secretary N. Surender Reddy, Secretaries Koteswar Reddy and Parameshwar Reddy among others.

Centre urged to sanction funds for Hyderabad Metro Rail Phase-II

Bhongir MP Chamala Kiran Kumar Reddy raised the issue of Hyderabad Metro Rail phase-II in Lok Sabha, under rule 377, and demanded sanction for the project, citing how smaller cities than Hyderabad could get second phase of metro rail, while Hyderabad is being ignored. He mentioned that the Government of India (Gol) sanctioned metro rail projects as Joint Venture (JV) projects, and they are under construction in more than 20 cities, and most of these cities are much smaller than Hyderabad. These cities include Agra, Bhopal, Bhubaneswar, Indore, Kanpur, Kochi, Lucknow, Meerut, Nagpur, Patna, Pune, Surat, Trivandrum among others. He said, in 2010, Hyderabad Metro was the second largest network, next to New Delhi, but is presently in the 9th place due to negligence of the previous BRS government. Citing this, he requested the Minister of Housing and Urban Affairs to consider and sanction the second phase. The Phase I of the Hyderabad Metro Rail, covering 3 corridors (69 km) was constructed by the Congress government with ₹22,000 crore. The Telangana government submitted the Hyderabad Metro Rail phase-ll expansion proposal covering five corridors (76.4 km) as a JV project of the Government of India and the Telangana government at an estimated cost of ₹24,269 crore, Mr. Reddy said.

Liquor kickbacks bankrolled YSRCP's polls, African forays: AP probe

New Delhi: The chargesheet filed by Andhra Pradesh police into the alleged ₹3,500 crore liquor scam points to a well-oiled web of kickbacks paid by private distillers once in five days, involvement of gold merchants to facilitate bribes and use of payoffs by former chief minister Y S Jaganmohan Reddy's YSRCP in 2024 elections . The 317-page chargesheet, filed in a Vijaywada court and accessed by ET, names Reddy's former advisor Kesireddy Raja Shekhar Reddy as the mastermind of the alleged scam and former Rajya Sabha MP Vijai Sai Reddy and Lok Sabha MP P V Midhun Reddy as co-accused. The state CID has alleged in the chargesheet that YSRCP functionaries facilitated a policy change-from an automated market-driven system of raising demand for liquor cases to a manual system-to edge out known brands and promote selected manufacturers and distilleries who were coerced into paying kickbacks. According to the chargesheet, officials who were willing to play along were posted in Andhra Pradesh State Beverages Corporation Limited (APSBCL). Though Reddy had promised complete prohibition and the new liquor policy introduced in 2019 was touted as a step towards this election promise, the reverse happened with specific brands capturing the market. "Even though the new policy i.e., sale of liquor through GROs, was intended as a step towards complete ban of liquor in the state of Andhra Pradesh, it only envisaged a new mode and manner of sale, but not otherwise. Evidently, the policy was introduced with an underlying intent of having full control over the supply and sale of liquor, thereby to achieve their broader goal of earning commissions/kickbacks," the chargesheet said. Live Events According to the CID probe, the kickbacks were handed over to main accused Kesireddy Rajashekar Reddy, who allegedly channelled the money into a web of shell companies, before distributing it among others. The chargesheet pegs the monthly kickbacks at ₹50-60 crore and overall extent at ₹3,570.87 crore. The chargesheet alleges kickback per case of liquor. It says while the kickback was ₹150 per case for cheaper brands, it was ₹200-350 for medium priced and ₹600 for more expensive brands. The state CID has alleged that money from kickbacks was used during elections in 2024 and after YSRCP lost, it scouted for iron ore business in African countries to channel this money. The chargesheet names former MLA Chevireddy Bhaskar Reddy and says he was instrumental in moving cash from Hyderabad and other locations to specific constituencies. "During the course of investigation into the present crime, it was revealed that Chevireddy Bhaskar Reddy would direct his close aides to transport cash from Hyderabad, Vijayawada and other places to several constituencies around Prakasam and Chittoor," the chargesheet said.

42,432 people live in 166 GHMC slums; Minister directs lands to be identified for G+3 buildings for poor

Telangana Revenue and Housing Minister Ponguleti Srinivas Reddy directed collectors of Hyderabad, Rangareddy, Medchal Malkajgiri and Sangareddy to identify lands to build ground-plus-three-storey buildings at the places the poor are living so that the latter's livelihood is not disrupted. A report on the survey conducted by various departments to verify for slums in the four districts was submitted recently. The houses for urban poor and the survey report came up for discussion at the meeting held by Minister Ponguleti Srinivas Reddy with the officials from Telangana Housing Corporation, Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation and district collectors of the districts on Tuesday (July 22, 2025). The requests for Indiramma Indlu or a 2BHK flat from people belonging to economically poor backgrounds in Hyderabad and its surrounding urban areas is increasing. The high rents in the urban areas is forcing them to spend a large portion of their earnings on rents for one or two rooms, the applicants say pointing out that a house of their own would give them relief from financial stress. 166 slums in GHMC There are 166 slums in GHMC limits where approximately 42,432 people live. Till now, the survey was conducted in 106 areas in Hyderabad, 16 in Rangareddy, 12 in Medchal Malkajgiri and five in Sangareddy. During the survey, around 25,501 kacha houses were identified in the localities. After a thorough study, a report should be submitted by the end of the month on the land available in the slums, number of Indiramma houses that can be constructed at the G+3 buildings, the Minister said. The collectors were directed to identify government lands, encroached lands, private lands under the control of poor and Bhoodan lands — as there is a provision to utilise this resource for housing for the poor. A report on it has to be submitted at the earliest. An official in each district has to be appointed for the land identification. The Minister said that though some people from Hyderabad were allotted 2BHK houses in Sangareddy, Medchal and Rangareddy, they were not willing to shift there. Around 30,000 houses are vacant though allotted. Mr. Reddy directed officials to issue notices to the beneficiaries. High demand for Indiramma Indlu The hopes of the applicants for Indiramma Indlu or a 2BHK flat from the government is becoming more pronounced as they get to know that people in rural Telangana are receiving ₹5 lakh financial assistance towards Indiramma Indlu. They also point out to the large number of the 2BHK flats which are unoccupied in some parts around Hyderabad, the officials noted. A domestic worker from Indiranagar of Ramanthapur, Sandhya Rani, said that she lives with three kids in a two-room house. While she earns ₹6,000 to ₹7,000 a month, the rent is ₹6,600. The fee for her three kids who go to college is managed through government and private scholarships and debts. 'We are extremely careful of using electricity since we have to pay if the monthly consumption crosses a limit [200 units per month under Gruha Jyoti scheme]. We don't know what to do if there is any unannounced expense. I am eagerly waiting for an Indiramma Indlu. It will be of great help to us,' said Ms. Rani. Anita, another resident of the city said that her family income has dropped to less than ₹20,000 and ₹5,500 goes for two-room house rent. 'My husband's earnings have dropped in the past few months. If we get a home at a far away place, like in the government's 2bhk apartments near Indu Aranya in Bandlaguda of Nagole, we can travel to and fro for work,' said Ms. Anita. President of Gruha Karmikula Union (Telangana State) V. Manjula, said that there are several single women or widows who are struggling to get by every day as it becomes difficult to pay rent, school fees and take care of other expenses. 'Houses for such women would be of immense help,' she said.
