Contraband booze seized, trader held in JB raid
Johor Baru South OCPD Asst Comm Raub Selamat said they had successfully disrupted the storage and distribution of untaxed alcoholic beverages in the district.
'Following cooperation with Bukit Aman and based on intelligence and public information, we raided a double-storey terrace house at around 10.30am on Wednesday (May 7).
'The raid led to the arrest of a 36-year-old trader at the scene.
"Checks of the premises and two multi-purpose vehicles (MPVs) found 180 cartons of beer as well as 35 boxes of beer and liquor bottles,' he told a press conference at district police headquarters here on Tuesday (May 13).
He added that the total value of the seized contraband, together with the two MPVs, was estimated to be over RM316,000.
'Further checks on the two MPVs revealed that the vehicles had been fitted with fake number plates to hide the illegal activity.
'Initial investigation found that the suspect has been buying the alcohol at the Forest City duty-free zone and smuggling it out before selling it at market price to businesses and individuals here,' he said.
ACP Raub added that the suspect has been remanded to help with investigations under Section 135(1)(D) of the Customs Act 1967 and Section 108(3)(F) of the Road Transport Act 1987. Follow us on our official WhatsApp channel for breaking news alerts and key updates!

Two cyclists killed in hit-and-run incident in Muar
MUAR: Two cyclists died and another was seriously injured after being hit by a vehicle in Parit Salam, Parit Yusof, last night. The accident, believed to have occurred about 8.30pm, claimed the life of one victim at the scene, while another died while receiving treatment at Sultanah Fatimah Specialist Hospital (HPSF). Two of the deceased sustained body injuries, while the surviving victim suffered a broken wrist and right shoulder and is currently being treated at HPSF," he said. Raiz Mukhliz said police are still tracking down the vehicle involved in the incident to assist in investigations. "The case is being investigated under Section 41 (1) of the Road Transport Act 1987 (causing death by reckless or dangerous driving). Three killed, two injured in highway crash at LPT1
KUANTAN: Three Bangladeshi men were killed and two others injured after the multi-purpose vehicle (MPV) they were travelling in skidded off the road at KM200.8 of the East Coast Highway (LPT) 1 near here, on Friday (Aug 2). Acting Kuantan OCPD Supt Mohd Adli Mat Daud said the crash, which occurred at about 7:30 pm, resulted in the death of the driver, Md Sabber Hasan, 30, and two passengers, Md Jahid Hasan, 21, and Abdullah, 24, at the scene.

Three Bangladeshi men killed in highway crash at LPT1 near Kuantan
KUANTAN: Three Bangladeshi men were killed and two others injured after the multi-purpose vehicle (MPV) they were travelling in skidded off the road at KM200.8 of the East Coast Highway (LPT1) near here yesterday. Acting Kuantan police chief Supt Mohd Adli Mat Daud said the crash occurred around 7:30 pm, claiming the lives of driver Md Sabber Hasan, 30, and passengers Md Jahid Hasan, 21, and Abdullah, 24. Initial investigations revealed the Toyota Avanza was heading from Kuantan to Kuala Lumpur when the driver lost control, causing the vehicle to skid left. Two other passengers, Md Habib Bissas, 45, and Maniram Chandra Bas, 40, were injured and taken to Tengku Ampuan Afzan Hospital (HTAA). Mohd Adli confirmed the driver lacked a valid license, and the vehicle's road tax had expired since May 2025.
