Quinta Brunson Opens Up About Her Divorce Being Made Public Before She Was Ready to Share the News

Quinta Brunson appeared as Bustle's June 30 cover star, and shared what life has been like since finding massive success as the creator and star of Abbott Elementary
She explained that seeing her name in the news was difficult at first because she wanted to keep certain parts of her life private, such as her recent divorce
The actress, who split from her husband of three years, Kevin Jay Anik, in March, admitted, "I hate all of it," when it comes to her personal life being made publicQuinta Brunson is still adapting to being a public figure.
The Abbott Elementary creator, 35, opened up about her rise to fame in Bustle's new cover story, published Monday, June 30. Since becoming a household name in recent years, Brunson explained the difficulty of keeping certain parts of her life private.
'Even if you don't give a lot, people want whatever they can get, and will take whatever they can get,' she told the outlet. 'I remember seeing people be like, 'She announced her divorce.' I didn't announce anything. I think people have this idea that people in the public eye want the public to know their every move. None of us do. I promise you.'
'No one wants [everyone] to know when you buy a house, when you move, when a major change happens in your personal life — it's just that that's public record information,' she continued before adding, 'I hate all of it.'
Brunson filed for divorce from her now ex-husband Kevin Jay Anik on Wednesday, March 19, citing 'irreconcilable differences,' according to court documents previously obtained by PEOPLE. The pair got married in October 2021 and their date of separation was listed as 'TBD.'
She also indicated that the pair had 'entered into a postnuptial agreement which governs the disposition of their property' and requested each party be responsible for their own attorney's fees.
'Those are invisible voices that aren't in your home with you, that aren't in your personal life, that aren't your friends,' she noted. 'I love my fans, I love the people who watch Abbott. So you want to hear them, and you want to listen to them, but when it comes to matters of your personal life and decisions you make, you do have to tune it out.'
Her big chop followed a long internal debate about the impact a new look might have on her reputation, the actress shared.
'When I finally cut it off, there was something very liberating about it,' she said. 'You can still change and evolve and start over. Cutting my hair helped remind me that I am an artist first. I want to feel things. I want to do things. I want to make choices. I want to be a person, and not just stuck in having to be a certain way for business.'

'It's a transitional time,' she acknowledged. 'I think it's true for me and my personal life, and it's how I feel about myself, my career, and the world. I feel very serious about focusing on watering my own gardens, taking care of myself and the people around me who I actually interact with day-to-day.'
'I used to look at that as a selfish thing,' she added. 'But there's a reason they tell you to put your oxygen mask on first before you try to help someone else.'

13 Absolutely Baffling Photos From This Week That Will Make You Say, "What Am I Even Looking At?"

Hello again, and welcome to our roundup of the most confusing photos we found on Reddit this week. Check out last week's if you missed it — and let's get right into it! this a top-down view or is the person looking up? The person who took the photo is actually at the base of the stairs, looking up — you can tell by the railings. did this dog's body go? It is most definitely there! The foreground is a curb, and the photo was taken from a lower position than the dog, so its body is just hiding behind its head! is a car here. Can you tell where? It is on the left side and is making a perfect mirror reflection off the background. The two black things above the tire are the handles. called this "a bouquet of toe beans" and it is confusing and a bit unsettling. Can you decipher it? The dog has all four of its paws just hanging off the couch. Its black toenails are what make this photo even more trippy, but it is just four dog legs, each with five paw pads. Is this a tarantuala/bird hybrid? Nah, those are babies, and what looks like a tarantula is actually each one of their wings folded up beside them. one creates all sorts of confusion. Are you confused? Some people want to know why the middle person appears to be pulling their hair out (she's just pulling out a hair tie). And some people think the last photo is someone, uh, spreading their cheeks, but it is just a back massage. Lastly, people are also wondering why "pregnancy" appears to be a service, lol. this a tiny what is going on here? The pizza is normal-sized, just on the floor, and the person is standing up. They are holding the key up in front of them to make the pizza look even smaller. A depth perception trick! is this person sitting on? Just a big bean bag that happens to resemble the color of sweatpants! this person disappearing? Nope! Their hat just matches the sun on the ground in the background perfectly, and the rest of their body is in the shade. this dough indented or popping out? It looks like it is popping out, but it is actually indented. that couple is holding hands. But, what is that in the background? It is someone's leg crossed over their other leg with their arm resting on top. Get your mind out of the gutter! bride does not have one arm that is larger than the other. Why does it look like it, though? Her arm is blending in with the person behind her who is tending to the back of her dress. finally, what is going on with this ghost cat? This is not the reflection of a cat; it is a reflection of the cabinets in the back. Which one of these photos stumped you the most? Let us know in the comments!

Quinta Brunson says some 'Abbott Elementary' cast members want to pursue other projects: 'Show is very time-consuming'

Abbott Elementary was renewed for an impressive fifth season in January, but Quinta Brunson and some of the cast have started to wonder about life out of school. "We are so fortunate and blessed to be on a network TV show for five seasons, and for people to still be fans,' Brunson, who created and stars in the show, told Bustle in a new interview. 'That being said, I have cast members who would love to pursue other projects, and our show is very time-consuming. We shoot about seven months out of the year. That can stop people from being able to do a lot of other things.' She continued, "Right now, I'm receiving scripts, and waiting for that moment that feels like, 'Oh man, this is exactly what I've been looking for.' Abbott has been so successful, and I want to use that success to get other people's projects off the ground." For example, she told the outlet, "I'm always interested in playing against type. I think that's any actor's dream. Right now my type is 'Janine' and 'teacher.' I'm looking forward to moving away from that a little bit." The ABC comedy, which debuted in 2021 and was inspired by Brunson's mother's 40 years as a public school teacher, focuses on the staff at an underfunded public school in Philadelphia. Brunson costars on the Emmy-winning show with a cast that includes Sheryl Lee Ralph, Tyler James Williams, Lisa Ann Walter, Janelle James, William Stanford Davis, and Chris Perfetti. Brunson explained her mantra and approach to being the face of the show to Bustle. "People used to tell me at the beginning of this that the No. 1 on the call sheet sets the tone, and the producer sets the tone — and I'm both of those roles," she said. "I understand now, after doing this for four years, how important it was that I set the tone that I did when we first started." "Sometimes it's as simple as I'm the first one in the morning," she added, "and the way I carry myself in the morning can determine how the rest of the set runs, not only as an actor, but as the creator of the show. I try to come in with a good attitude and a positive attitude, and it's not hard to do. I'm very excited to go to work and appreciative of my cast and crew and naturally want the morale up." A premiere date for season 5 hasn't officially been announced, but the main cast is expected to return. The first four seasons can be streamed now on Hulu. To celebrate, Rob Lowe took to TikTok and shared a video on Sunday to celebrate. "Well, St. Elmo's Fire turned 40 today," he began. "Forty years ago, that movie came out in the theaters and it seems like yesterday." He continued, "Thanks to everybody who's taken this movie into their heart and I'm going to raise a glass at St. Elmo's Fire for St. Elmo's Fire." Lowe starred in the iconic 1985 film alongside Demi Moore, Andrew McCarthy, Emilio Estevez, Judd Nelson, Ally Sheedy, Andie MacDowell, Mare Winningham and more. In an interview with People published Sunday, Lowe talked about the sequel's script and said "it's really getting good." He added that it's "super valid to revisit" the "St. Elmo's Fire" characters, who "continue to mean a lot to people and watch them navigate this chapter of life."
