‘Shot Before Pahalgam...': Punjab CM Mann Backs Diljit Dosanjh Amid Row Over Sardaar Ji 3

CM says film was shot before Pahalgam attack, questions why Pakistani teams can visit India while artists face bans.
Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann earlier this week appeared to dismiss the criticism levelled at singer-actor Diljit Dosanjh over casting Pakistani female actor Hania Aamir in his latest film 'Sardaar Ji 3'.
The Punjab Chief Minister, according to a report by news agency PTI, a 'gaddar' (traitor) pointed out that critics of Diljit Dosanjh labelled his as a 'traitor" over his casting choice. Many were enraged by the singer-actor's choice because the national sentiment was not to give space to artists of the neighbouring country until their government abandons its pro-terrorism state policy.
The Aam Aadmi Party's top leader also highlighted that the film was made before the April 22 Pahalgam terror attack that claimed the lives of 26 people.
'A Pakistani actor acted in Diljit Dosanjh's film. It was shot before the Pahalgam terror attack. The Pakistani actor worked in it as our culture is the same. They speak Punjabi and we speak as well," said Mann was quoted as saying by the news agency. He made the statement during his address at an event here.
The Punjab CM appeared to question the decision of Pakistan playing the Asia Cup. 'Diljit was called a 'gaddar'. And now a Pakistani team will come to play here, and then everything will be fine?" asked Mann.
The government last week gave its approval for Pakistani participation in hockey's Asia Cup, scheduled to be held in Rajgir, Bihar from August 27 to September 7.
Envious Of Punjabis
Mann also said that Punjabis are unncessarily being targeted by the 'self-proclaimed nationalists" who are envious of Punjab and Punjabis. He said the movie has been unnecessarily banned in the country. He said that the community played a key role in making the country self-reliant in food production and safeguarding the borders of the nation.
A row had erupted over the casting of the Pakistani actress in Dosanjh's movie. Trade unions like the All Indian Cine Workers Association (AICWA) and the Federation of Western India Cine Employees (FWICE) have criticised Dosanjh for collaborating with Aamir in the wake of the Pahalgam attack, with FWICE demanding that his citizenship be cancelled. Many social media users have also called for a ban on the Punjabi actor-musician.
Several Sikh leaders from across parties have come out in Dosanjh's support terming the calls to revoke his citizenship as unfair. Dosanjh had recently defended his decision to release 'Sardaar Ji 3' in overseas territories amid the controversy.
The film's producers are already facing losses as the film won't come out in India due to a ban on Pakistani artists, and in such a scenario, it is justified to release it overseas, he had added.
'When this film was made, the situation was fine. We shot it in February and everything was going well at that time. Look, there are a lot of things, big things, that are not in our control. So the producers decided that obviously, now this film won't release in India, so let's release it overseas," Dosanjh had said.
Relations between India and Pakistan hit an all-time low after the Pahalgam attack. In retaliation, the Indian armed forces carried out strikes on nine terror camps across Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK) on May 7, in an operation codenamed Operation Sindoor.

Sonali Bendre says people thought she ‘lost the plot' after decision to work in TV: ‘It was a fantastic paycheck'

Actor Sonali Bendre's decision to do television initially raised eyebrows among her colleagues, but looking back, she calls it the "best thing" she ever did -- a move that gave her career a fresh lease of life along with a great paycheck. Sonali Bendre is currently seen in Pati Patni Aur Panga. The 50-year-old, who first appeared on television in Kya Masti Kya Dhoom after the success of her films Hum Saath Saath Hai and Sarfarosh, recalled how her decision at the time made people think that she had "lost the plot". "Everybody thought I had lost the plot because television was not the thing to do. It was like, 'Why are they doing TV?' But it was a great show, I loved the concept of that show, and I thought it was a fantastic paycheck," Sonali told PTI in an interview. Sonali even credited her partner at the time, and now her husband, Goldie Behl, for supporting her decision. "This (TV) is the future, television is going to become big (Goldie said). I listened to him and said, 'Let me do it'". It was the best thing I did," the actor said. Sonali went on to judge reality shows such as Indian Idol 4, India's Got Talent, Hindustan Ke Hunarbaaz, India's Best Dramebaaz, India's Best Dancer 3. She is currently featuring on Pati Patni Aur Panga as a host. In fact, according to Sonali, it was television that helped her remain relevant. "The kids (on her first reality show) who used to see me at that time are all grown up now, and they still remember me. So, as a celebrity, your life is as long as your fans remember you." "I got a great lease of life. At that time, people used to say that you are doing TV, but it just gave me an amazing lease of life, which I didn't think that's what would happen, but it did happen," she added. Besides, working in television offered her the opportunity for a healthy work-life balance, which became a crucial factor since she wanted to be present for her son during his formative years. "When I had my child, these shows were closest in my line of work. I didn't do fiction work because my child was growing up and I wanted to be there for him," Sonali added. Pati Patni Aur Panga features popular celebrity couples such as Debinna Bonnerjee-Gurmeet Choudhary, Hina Khan-Rocky Jaiswal, Rubina Dilaik-Abhinav Shukla, Avika Gor-Milind Chandwani, Swara Bhasker-Fahad Ahmad, Geeta Phogat-Pawan Kumar, and Sudesh Lehri-Mamta Lehri. The show, which premiered on Saturday on Colors Channel, will see celebrity couples competing against each other as they take on fun challenges. Talking about the show, Sonali said the show is unlike anything she has done before. "You are holding the whole show together; you talk to the contestants, and more so to those who are not opening up. Besides, it's not scripted. It is a challenge, but I'm enjoying it," she concluded.

Trump fell for Pakistan's oil hoax, Baloch leader warns of strategic consequences and terror financing

After US President Donald Trump announced a trade agreement with Pakistan to explore a "massive oil reserve," prominent Baloch leader Mir Yar Baloch has publicly rejected Islamabad's claim over the resource-rich territory, asserting that the oil, gas, and mineral reserves lie within the sovereign territory of Balochistan, not Pakistan. In a letter addressed to Trump and shared via X (formerly Twitter), Mir Yar Baloch declared that Pakistan is making false claims to access the region's mineral wealth for financial gain. He emphasised that the resources, including rare earth elements, copper, lithium, uranium, and oil, belong exclusively to the Baloch people and cannot be bartered or sold by the Pakiststate. According to The CSR Journal, the Baloch leader called the deal a "strategic mistake," asserting that any partnership with Pakistan over Balochistan's resources would empower the Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI), which he described as a rogue agency with a long record of sponsoring terrorism. Live Events "Allowing Pakistan's radicalised military and ISI, known for supporting Al-Qaeda and proxy jihadist groups, to exploit Balochistan's trillion-dollar reserves would directly finance global terror," the letter read. "It would endanger regional stability and could contribute to attacks reminiscent of 9/11." Mir Yar Baloch warned that profits generated through such deals would not reach the Baloch people but would instead fund anti-India and anti-Israel militant operations. He also reiterated that Balochistan declared itself an independent republic in May 2025 and urged the global community to recognise its sovereignty. "These reserves are not in Punjab, which is the actual Pakistan," he said. "They belong to the Republic of Balochistan, currently under illegal occupation." He concluded with a stark message: "Balochistan is not for sale. We will not permit Pakistan, China, or any foreign power to exploit our land or its resources without the explicit consent of the Baloch people. Our sovereignty is non-negotiable." The post has triggered renewed debate over resource ownership, foreign involvement, and Pakistan's decades-long occupation of Balochistan. Whether the international community heeds this warning remains to be seen. Trump had recently posted on his Truth Social platform, "We have just concluded a deal with the country of Pakistan, whereby Pakistan and the United States will work together on developing their massive oil reserves." "We are in the process of choosing the oil company that will lead this partnership," Trump added. "Who knows, maybe they'll be selling oil to India someday!" Economic Times WhatsApp channel )

Mumbai-Ahmedabad in 2 hours! India's first bullet train service to commence soon, says rail minister Ashwini Vaisnaw

Union Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw on August 3 confirmed that India's first bullet train is on track for launch soon, according to a PTI report. Speaking after he virtually flagged off the Ayodhya Express, Rewa-Pune Express, and Jabalpur-Raipur Express from Bhavnagar, he stated that the Mumbai-Ahemedabad bullet train, which will cut the journey between the two cities to two hours and seven minutes, will 'commence very soon'. India's first bullet train between Mumbai and Ahmedabad will span 508 kilometres. It will start from the Bandra Kurla Complex (BKC) area in Mumbai, and connect to Gujarat's Vapi, Surat, Anand, Vadodara and Ahmedabad, running at a high speed of 320 km per hour. 'The first bullet train from Mumbai to Ahmedabad will start very soon, and the work on the project is going on at a fast pace. When it starts running, the journey from Mumbai to Ahmedabad will take only two hours and seven minutes,' Vaishnaw said. The minister also sahred details of the upcoming railway projects in Gujarat, including a new train between Porbandar and Rajkot, a ₹ 135-crore coach maintenance facility at Ranavav station, a railway flyover in Porbandar city, two Gati Shakti cargo terminals, and a container terminal at an upcoming port in Bhavnagar. Besides these, he added that there are several new projects in Madhya Pradesh and Chhattisgarh, and praised the 'double-engine government' in these states making projects progress rapidly. 'In 11 years of the Narendra Modi government, 34,000 km of new railway tracks have been laid, with almost 12 km of new tracks built in the country daily. Around 1,300 railway stations are being redeveloped in the country, which is something that has never been done before. No one has undertaken such a big work to date. When railway stations are renovated in developed countries, they are done systematically by closing down all stations and trains,' Vaishnaw added. He also gave an update on the trains introduced by the Modi government — Vande Bharat Express, Amrit Bharat Express, and Namo Bharat Express. 'Eight Amrit Bharat trains have been launched so far. They have features like Vande Bharat trains, but the fare is low. These trains have been constructed using new-age technology, and you will be surprised to hear the emotions expressed by passengers using these trains,' he said.
