Scooter Braun steps down as Hybe America CEO, amid Justin Bieber's financial fallout and BTS comeback

Express Tribune3 days ago
Scooter Braun has officially stepped down as CEO of Hybe America, transitioning into a senior advisory role and joining the Hybe Board of Directors. The change ends his five-year tenure at the helm of Hybe's U.S. operations following the company's acquisition of his firm, Ithaca Holdings, in 2021.
The announcement was made to staff on Monday, where Braun, appearing remotely, confirmed the move had been planned 'for quite some time.' While stepping back from daily leadership, he will continue contributing to projects of girl group Katseye and assisting Hybe artists.
'Being a part of Hybe and witnessing its remarkable growth has been one of the inspiring chapters of my professional journey,' Braun said. 'Chairman Bang is a true visionary and a musical genius.'
Chairman Bang Si-Hyuk praised Braun's contributions, stating he had been 'a visionary executive' and 'a true catalyst for cultural exchange.'
Braun's exit comes amid reported financial fallout involving Justin Bieber, his former client. After the cancellation of Bieber's Justice tour in 2022, the artist was reportedly left owing AEG over $20 million. Braun's company is said to have helped cover the amount through a low-interest loan and brokered a $200 million deal for Bieber's songwriting catalogue.
Though the financial settlement is reportedly resolved, the personal relationship between Braun and Bieber remains strained.
His exit also comes just as BTS prepares for a major full-group comeback in spring 2026, following the members' completion of military service. With Braun stepping into an advisory role, leadership shifts to Isaac Lee as BTS begins recording new music in July and preps for a global tour.
Lee, formerly chairman of Hybe Latin America, will succeed Braun as chairman and CEO of Hybe Americas, overseeing key labels including Big Machine and Quality Control.

BTS announce tour, promise album

K-pop supergroup BTS will head to the United States this month to start working on new music and will launch its next album early next year ahead of a world tour, it said on Tuesday, as per Reuters. The seven members of South Korea's most lucrative group made the announcement during a livestream on Weverse, a superfan platform owned by HYBE, an entertainment firm that manages BTS. "Hey guys, we are back," BTS member Jimin said in the 30-minute livestream. HYBE said it attracted more than 7.3 million real-time views and that the world tour would be BTS' first in approximately four years. "Starting in July — we're planning to make something massive, so from then (this month), we'll probably gather together and stay focused on making music," said band leader RM. "Our group album is officially set to be released next spring," RM added during a live chat. "Starting next spring, we'll of course be going on tour, so please look forward to seeing us all around the globe," he added. The upcoming album, which BTS will produce in the United States and other countries, will be the band's first full-length album since 2020, BTS leader, RM, said. As per the Guardian, if released in the spring of 2026, the BTS comeback album would be its first in four years since Proof, which was the best-selling album of 2022 in South Korea, with nearly 3.5 million copies sold. The band made its debut on June 13, 2013, and spearheaded a global K-pop craze with lyrics and social campaigns aimed at empowering youngsters. BTS had been on a break since 2022 as its members undertook the mandatory service required of all South Korean men under 30 due to tensions with the nuclear-armed North. SUGA, the last BTS member to complete his military service, was discharged on June 21, paving the way for the band's reunion.
