Mexico beats United States 2-1 to win 10th Gold Cup title
The U.S. went ahead just four minutes in when Sebastian Berhalter's free kick found Chris Richards, whose powerful header struck the underside of the crossbar and cannoned straight down, with the referee confirming the goal was good.
Mexico found the equalizer through Raul Jimenez in the 27th minute after the striker converted from close range.
He then dedicated the goal to the late Diogo Jota, his former Wolverhampton Wanderers teammate, by holding up a Mexico shirt with the Portuguese forward's name on it.
"We came from behind and are leaving with the title," Jimenez said. "It's great and really important to clinch the crown a summer before the World Cup. It's something we've been trying to do since the tournament began."

Alex Freeman came closest when his header struck Mexico goalkeeper Luis Malagon in the face and Diego Luna blazed the rebound over the crossbar.
Mexico cranked up the pressure after the break and got the crucial second goal when Edson Alvarez powered home a header, though there was a nervous wait due to a VAR review for potential offside.
However, the goal stood and the Mexican contingent erupted with wild celebrations.
"I'm speechless. We spent 35 days in intense training, away from our families, with the intention of winning. There's certainly room for improvement, but we're leaving happy and with our feet firmly on the ground," midfielder Alvarez said.
"When they first disallowed the goal, it was crazy. It threw me off balance, but I was really happy to see that it was valid."
Patrick Agyemang had the chance to equalize in the dying minutes but his finish just missed the mark in a tense finale as Mexico held firm to secure their triumph.
Mexico's victory secures back-to-back Gold Cup triumphs and brings them a record-extending 10th crown. Mexico also won the CONCACAF Nations Championship, the Gold Cup's predecessor, three times.

Padres' Yu Darvish to make season debut against Diamondbacks
There was good news on and off the field for the San Diego Padres on Sunday night. Not only did they win a weekend series with the Texas Rangers by picking up a 4-1 decision, they regained the services of the pitcher who would have been their Opening Day starter before elbow problems sidelined him during spring training. That pitcher, Yu Darvish, will be activated Monday to start the opener of a four-game series with the visiting Arizona Diamondbacks. The 38-year old Darvish cleared the final hurdles to return to action for his 2025 debut with four innings in a simulated game Tuesday and a short bullpen session on Saturday. "We always have an open day on the schedule for Yu Darvish to start," San Diego manager Mike Shildt said. "So we're excited to have that happen. It really did get back to him just checking all the boxes." Darvish went 7-3 in 16 starts last year, recording a 3.31 ERA, and struck out 78 batters in 81⅔ innings. He was sidelined for about half the year with an elbow injury, followed by time away to attend to a personal matter. Darvish's return comes at an opportune time for the Padres, who have been stretched thin in the rotation by injuries to Opening Day starter Michael King and Triple-A call-up Ryan Bergert. Dylan Cease, a 14-game winner last season, has scuffled most of this year, going 3-8 with a 4.62 ERA. But San Diego remains in the National League's final wild-card spot, thanks largely to Nick Pivetta's career year. The All-Star snub is 9-2 with a 3.25 ERA. Diamondbacks manager Torey Lovullo said being swept last weekend by Miami set the tone for the homestand. "You go 3-7 at home in a space we feel very comfortable playing in with great fans and it doesn't work out? It's really frustrating," he said. The Diamondbacks own one of MLB's best and most powerful offenses, ranking third in runs at 461 and third in homers at 132. But their pitching staff has been poor, as it enters this series 26th in ERA at 4.72 while rating 22nd in batting average and 22nd in WHIP. Having expanded his player pool during a CONCACAF Gold Cup that ended with a 2-1 loss to Mexico in Sunday's final, coach Mauricio Pochettino has eight friendlies left from September through March to evaluate players to pick for the World Cup. 'All the American players have the possibility,' Pochettino said. 'We need analyze every single player, see the circumstances, the situations, performance, fitness level.' Following a CONCACAF Nations League flop with his A team in March, Pochettino had largely a B squad for the Gold Cup. Star Christian Pulisic wanted vacation time; Yunus Musah opted out for an undisclosed personal reason; Weston McKennie, Tim Weah and Gio Reyna were forced to be with their teams at the Club World Cup; Antonee Robinson and Folarin Balogun were hurt; and Sergiño Dest was regaining fitness.
