Just over a mile from the scene where the terrible events unfolded, crowds assembled at Maguiresbridge Primary School on Friday evening to pay their respects to the late Vanessa Whyte (45) and her teenage children, James (14) and Sara (13).
All three tragically died just two days earlier in an incident that has plunged this quiet rural community into profound grief.

A murder investigation has since been launched, while an adult male remains in a 'serious' condition in hospital.

A book of condolence was opened at the primary school earlier that day.
Local clergy offered prayers and readings, and a two-minute silence was then observed. In that quiet moment, the enormity of what has befallen this community came into full focus.
The vigil offered a chance for those who knew Vanessa, James, and Sara to reflect on happier times.
Innes Redmond, a former employer of Vanessa, expressed his disbelief.
'She was a lovely person, truly lovely,' he said. 'A hard worker, down-to-earth, no-nonsense. She was effective and accomplished a great deal in her career.
'She was a devoted mother to her children. She loved her cattle too. She adored her Simmental cows. I have such great memories of her.'
Former colleague, Julie Wood, also paid a warm tribute.
'There's a real sense of disbelief,' she said. 'We just can't believe this has happened to Vanessa, a strong, vibrant woman with so much life in advance of her. She was a wonderful mum, and her clients adored her.
'People are in shock. It's so tragic.'
Honor Irvine, principal of Maguiresbridge Primary School, took the opportunity to reflect on the profound impact James and Sara had during their time at the school.
'James and Sara both attended Maguiresbridge Primary School. They were only a year apart – Irish twins, you could say.

'For eight years, the children and their family were very much a part of our school community.
'James and Sara were great fun, very gifted in their schoolwork, but they also excelled at every sport they tried. They had a background in GAA and hurling, loved cricket, netball -anything like that.
'They were very outdoorsy children. They loved farming, and their mum had them involved from a young age.'
Like so many in the community, Ms Irvine is struggling to come to terms with the events of Wednesday morning. However, in some small way, the vigil has provided solace to a stricken community.
'It has been comforting today,' she said. 'The vigil has given people the chance to come together in grief, to mourn, and to comfort one another.'
The vigil drew to a close, marking the first tentative steps by this community to move forward amid the darkness. Just down the road, the scene at Drummeer Road remains closed off by the PSNI, as detectives continue to work to establish the full circumstances.
Ms Whyte, originally from Barefield, Co Clare, attended secondary school in Coláiste Muire in Ennis and moved to
Fermanagh
several years ago.
The Village Rural Development Association which has organised the book of condolence, said the vigil provided an opportunity for people to come together and support each other.
The impact of this tragedy will stay with this close-knit community for years to come.

Halt in decline of Garda resignations sparks concern
A decline in the number of resignations from An Garda Síochána recorded last year has halted, dashing hopes that the high level of early departures from the force was part of a short-term trend during the Covid pandemic years. For decades, the number of gardaí leaving the force before being eligible to retire on full pensions was low. However, it jumped from 69 in 2020 to 171 in 2023, a near-250 per cent increase. Last year, resignations declined by about 20 per cent, to 138, though that decline has not continued in the first six months of this year, when there were 68 resignations. If that pace continued for the remainder of the year, the total would be the same as last year's. Shortages of personnel continue to hamper police work across the State, from responding to emergencies to investigating crimes. 'Despite the extensive commentary and public narrative on a crisis on resignations in An Garda Síochána, the resignation rate remains at approximately 1 per cent,' Garda Headquarters said in reply to queries. The force said some of those who had left were subject to internal discipline and opted to resign from the organisation rather than be dismissed. Twelve gardaí who had previously resigned were reattested in recent months and applications from others seeking to rejoin are under consideration. However, that remains below the target of 15,000 minimum, with the long-term aim of growing to 18,000. The number of resignations is a concern because recruitment to the force has been sluggish since the Garda College in Templemore, Co Tipperary, reopened after being forced to close during the pandemic. Though there is capacity at the college to take in four 200-strong classes of recruits per year, classes have been smaller, with 630 recruits starting training last year. GAA pay tribute to Fermanagh shooting victims at All-Ireland football final
The GAA have paid tribute to the victims of a fatal shooting in Maguiresbridge with a minute's applause at Croke Park ahead of Sunday's All-Ireland SFC final. Vanessa Whyte, who was 45, and her children, Sara (13) and James (14) died after they were shot at their home in the Co Fermanagh village on Wednesday. A male who also suffered gunshot wounds remains in a serious condition in hospital. Vanessa Whyte and her children were active members of two local GAA teams. In separate statements on Wednesday night, both St Mary's Maguiresbridge Gaelic Football Club and Lisbellaw St Patrick's Hurling Club offered "heartfelt condolences to the families and friends of those impacted by the tragic incident. Vanessa Whyte and her children, Sarah and James "We are working with the GAA at county, provincial and national level, to implement the Association's critical incident protocols. We will work closely with all appropriate services to ensure that those who require support at this difficult time can access it. "The deceased were all active and beloved members of our club. We will not be making any further comment at this difficult time." A murder investigation has been launched, and police are probing a triple murder and attempted suicide line of inquiry. ‘We are coming here with hearts broken': Prayer service to be held for Fermanagh shooting victims
A prayer service will be held in Co Clare for a mother and two children killed in a shooting incident in Co Fermanagh . Vanessa Whyte (45), a vet from Co Clare, her son James (14) and daughter Sara (13), were killed in a suspected triple murder and attempted suicide at a house in Maguiresbridge on Wednesday morning. Ms Whyte was originally from Barefield, a village near Ennis in Co Clare. A murder investigation has been launched, while an adult male remains in a serious condition in hospital. READ MORE A prayer service will take place at the Church of Immaculate Conception in Barefield on Sunday evening. A notice on the parish website describes it as a service to remember Vanessa, Sara and James. Barefield parish priest, Fr Tom Fitzpatrick, said the community wanted to gather together to remember the family. The prayer service has been organised to take place on Sunday evening to allow for Ms Whyte's brother, Ivor, to travel home from Australia . 'The prayer service was organised by the community, myself and the pastoral council. We planned it days ago,' Fr Fitzpatrick said. 'The purpose of the service is to gather as a community and be with the family and let them know we are thinking of them and we are here in shock and in pain. 'When something happens in a rural community, even to one person, it affects everybody. We are coming here with hearts broken. A lot of the community knew Vanessa and she was so well loved.' It is understood that the funeral of the mother and her two children will take place in Barefield later this week. On Saturday, detectives from the major investigation team, who are carrying out the murder investigation, said they are continuing with their inquiries and appealed for information involving the movements of a vehicle. Detective Chief Inspector Neil McGuinness said: 'Our investigation is ongoing and we are working tirelessly to determine the exact circumstances of this tragedy. 'I would continue to appeal generally for anyone with information to come forward, and more specifically, I would ask anyone who saw a silver Mercedes saloon car being driven in the Clones Road area of Newtownbutler, or between Maguiresbridge and Newtownbutler, on the evening of Tuesday July 22nd, to call detectives on 101, quoting reference 276 23/07/25. 'Anyone who was travelling in the area and who may have captured dashcam footage which could assist, please get in touch.' The man who remains in a serious condition in hospital was a member of the same household, the PSNI said.
