Mahedi Hasan Breaks Harbhajan Singh's 13-Year-Old T20I Record
Mahedi Hasan produced a match-winning effort with the ball to help Bangladesh create history on Wednesday. Alongside Tanzid Hasan, Mahedi combined to guide Bangladesh to a historic T20I series win over Sri Lanka with an emphatic eight-wicket victory in the final match at the R. Premadasa Stadium in Colombo.
Mahedi finished with match figures of 4/11 from four overs and thus created a new record of best bowling performance at the venue in a T20I, surpassing the previous benchmark of 4/12 set by India legend Harbhajan Singh at the 2012 T20 World Cup.
This victory marks Bangladesh's first-ever T20I series win against Sri Lanka, achieved with ease as they chased down 133 with 21 balls to spare.
On a sluggish pitch, Mahedi triggered Sri Lanka's collapse with a remarkable spell of spin bowling, achieving career-best figures and dismantling the middle order after the hosts lost early wickets.
Pathum Nissanka tried to anchor the innings with a steady 46 off 39 balls, but Sri Lanka slumped to 94 for 6 by the 15th over. Dasun Shanaka's late burst of 35 not out from 25 balls, including 22 runs in the final over, pushed the total to 132 for 7, but it was not enough.
Bangladesh effortlessly pursued the target despite losing Parvez Hossain Emon on the first ball of the innings. Tanzid then took control with a brilliant display of power-hitting and timing, remaining unbeaten with 73 off just 47 deliveries, including six sixes.
He received solid support from Litton Das, who added 32 before his dismissal in the ninth over. Towhid Hridoy joined Tanzid, and the pair put together an unbroken 59-run partnership to comfortably steer the visitors to victory in 16.3 overs.
Sri Lanka's bowlers struggled to exert pressure after the early breakthrough, with both spinners and seamers unable to stem the flow of runs. The loss concluded the series on a disappointing note for the hosts, who had won the opening match but failed to maintain their momentum.

Atwal, Jeev and Jyoti create history as trio makes cut at Senior Open
Agency: PTI Last Updated: Sunningdale (UK), Jul 26 (PTI) The Indian golfing trio of Arjun Atwal, Jeev Milkha Singh and Jyoti Randhawa made history with all three making the cut at the ISPS Handa Senior Open, the final Major for the Seniors (over 50 years) here. This is the first time that three Indians have made the cut in a Major. Atwal, who also played the US Senior Open earlier this year where he made the cut, had rounds of 67-72 at the Par-70 course and is T-36 after being in the Top-10 at one stage. Jeev, with 71-69, was T-49, while Randhawa, who holed a tense 15-footer on the 18th to make the cut, had rounds of 70-71. The cut fell at 1-over. 'To play alongside some of the golfing legends like Padraig Harrington, Ernie Els, Bernhard Langer or Asian superstar KJ Choi is a privilege. For three of us with Jeev and Arjun also there, it is amazing that we are still around and playing together, now at the Senior level," said Randhawa, whose son, Zorawar is on the bag. 'I needed to show the young man that we can still play," added Randhawa after his big putt on the 18th to make the cut. Jeev's son, Harjai, is also here but watching his dad, while Atwal's son plays basketball in the US. The Irishman, who won and then successfully defended the Claret Jug in 2007 and 2008, carded a five-under round of 65 on the Old Course here as he reached eight-under par after the first two days. Already a Senior Major winner this year after his U.S. Senior Open last month, Harrington leads defending champion K.J. Choi of South Korea, who hopes to become the first player to successfully defend a Senior Open title since Christy O'Connor Jnr in 2000. Choi carded six birdies in his round of 67 and the 55-year-old did hold the lead at one point on nine-under par after a birdie at the 14th, but two dropped shots on 16 and 17 saw him slip back into a share of second alongside 2018 European Ryder Cup captain Thomas Bjørn (70-63).
