Here's what to know about the holiday and how Muslims observe it: The Hijri New Year will begin around Thursday This Hijri New Year is expected to fall on or around June 26, ushering in the year 1447 A.H. (which stands for "anno hegirae" or "the year of the Hijrah" in Latin). The exact date can vary depending on when regional Islamic authorities see the crescent moon. Because the Hijri calendar is lunar, the dates of Islamic months and holidays — such as Ramadan and Eid al-Fitr — change annually. The new year corresponds with the first sighting of the crescent moon during Muharram, the first of 12 months in the Hijri calendar. Dar Al-Fatwa: Tomorrow, Sunday, the first day of Eid al-Fitr
NNA - In an issued statement this evening, the Dar al-Fatwa confirmed, "It has been officially established that the first day of Shawwal 1446 AH is tomorrow, Sunday, March 30, 2025 AD. Therefore, tomorrow, Sunday, is the first day of Eid al-Fitr 1446 AH." The statement continued, "As we congratulate Muslims on this blessed occasion, we ask God Almighty to accept their fasting, prayers, good deeds, and supplications, and for goodness, security, and tranquility to prevail." The statement added that the Grand Mufti of the Republic, Sheikh Abdul Latif Derian, has assigned the Dar El-Fatwa Secretary in the Lebanese Republic, Sheikh Amin al-Kurdi, to lead the Eid al-Fitr prayer and sermon at 7:15 a.m. on Eid al-Fitr Day at the Muhammad al-Amin Mosque in in downtown Beirut. "The Grand Mufti apologizes for not receiving well-wishers on the occasion of Eid," the statement concluded.
