ZP Ngp plants over 2 lakh trees in a day, sets new record for ‘Green Maharashtra'
Nagpur: Zilla Parishad (ZP) Nagpur made a powerful statement for environmental action by planting 2,00,076 trees across the district in a single day on Tuesday. The drive, part of the 'Green Maharashtra, Prosperous Maharashtra' mission, marks a major milestone toward the district's annual target of 5 lakh trees for 2025. Tired of too many ads? go ad free now The initiative was launched following an appeal by state revenue-cum-guardian minister of Nagpur district Chandrashekhar Bawankule. Zilla Parishad CEO Vinayak Mahamuni led the campaign with a clear strategy of delegating responsibilities across departments and ensuring tight coordination. Collector Vipin Itankar and CEO Mahamuni actively participated in the event held at Khasala Gram Panchayat, Kamthi Taluka, boosting the momentum on the ground. Seedlings were mainly supplied by the social forestry and forest departments, while additional plants were purchased through NREGA. Under the special initiative 'Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam,' saplings were distributed to students of Zilla Parishad schools. Every Anganwadi contributed by planting two saplings. Deputy CEO of the Gram Panchayat Department, Kapil Kalode, confirmed that plantation activities will continue in phases. A standout feature of the campaign is the creation of artificial sacred groves — Devrai and Ghanvan — using the Miyawaki method in Kamptee, Nagpur (Rural), and Parshivani. These will help strengthen biodiversity and maintain ecological balance. The key departments involved included Gram Panchayat, education, health, animal husbandry, irrigation, construction, women and child welfare, agriculture, general administration, and MSRLM. Tired of too many ads? go ad free now The campaign was powered through NREGA and other development schemes. To ensure smooth execution, taluka supervision officers were appointed from department heads, along with local supervisors at the gram panchayat level. This landmark effort not only sets a record for single-day plantation in the district but also reinforces the region's commitment to long-term environmental sustainability.

BWSSB to plant 60,000 saplings to commemorate diamond jubilee
As part of diamond jubilee celebrations, the BWSSB has launched a large-scale tree plantation drive titled 'Green Path - Water's Future', with the aim of planting 60,000 saplings across its jurisdiction, said BWSSB Chairman Ram Prasath Manohar on Monday. Inaugurating the campaign at the GKVK campus, Manohar symbolically planted 60 sapling varieties. 'A green environment is essential for both water conservation and ecological balance. Citizens must contribute by planting trees in their surroundings to make our city greener and more beautiful. BWSSB owns several land parcels across Bengaluru, and our aim is to convert them into green zones,' he said. Manohar further noted that the campaign, inspired by World Environment Day, aims to plant 60,000 saplings over the coming year under the guiding theme — 'Green Path - Water's Future'. To encourage broader participation, BWSSB has appealed to bulk water users, including apartment complexes, industries, tech parks, and educational institutions to actively join the campaign. They are being asked not only to plant saplings within their premises, but also to take responsibility for their upkeep and maintenance. Additionally, all BWSSB divisions and offices have been instructed to take the lead in planting trees in their respective areas and service zones.
