Last Updated:
A newlywed bride mysteriously vanished from Howrah-Jayanagar Express near Samastipur Junction. Despite exhaustive searches, she remains missing. Authorities await formal complaint
A deeply troubling incident unfolded at Samastipur Junction in Bihar, where a newlywed bride mysteriously disappeared from a moving train, leading to widespread alarm among family members and local residents. The incident occurred during a journey between Darbhanga and Samastipur.
Disappearance On The Howrah-Jayanagar Express
Sumit Kumar, a resident of Teghra in Begusarai district of Bihar, reported that his wife, Anchal Kumari, left to use the lavatory on the Howrah-Jayanagar Express and never returned. The couple had been married for just 40 days.
On June 28, the newlyweds were travelling to Laheriasarai in Darbhanga to visit Anchal Kumari's father, who had recently suffered a heart attack. Near Samastipur station, Anchal Kumari reportedly informed Sumit Kumar that she was going to the toilet. When she failed to return after considerable time, Sumit Kumar began searching for her, only to discover that her mobile phone had also been switched off.
Desperate Search For The Bride
Despite exhaustive efforts to locate his wife aboard the train, including checking the lavatories and calling her phone repeatedly, Anchal Kumari could not be found.
Sumit Kumar then alerted both his family and Anchal Kumari's, who also attempted to trace her whereabouts, all in vain.
Family Distraught, Police Await Formal Complaint
Inspector Arun Kumar of the Darbhanga Government Railway Police (GRP) said they had not yet received a formal complaint but assured that an investigation would begin promptly upon receiving one. Meanwhile, Sumit Kumar expressed hope that his wife would return safely in the near future.
The incident has caused unease among passengers and raised serious concerns about safety measures aboard Indian trains. Both families remain hopeful for Anchal Kumari's safe return and have appealed for swift action from the authorities.

Wriggling Cargo: Mumbai Customs Seize 16 Snakes From Passenger Returning From Thailand
India: Indian customs officers in Mumbai said they have stopped a plane passenger arriving from Thailand with a wriggling cargo of live snakes, the third such seizure this month. "Customs officers... foiled yet another wildlife smuggling attempt, 16 live snakes... seized from passenger returning from Thailand," said customs officers in the airport in the Indian financial hub. The passenger, who arrived on Sunday, has been arrested, the customs agency said in a statement, with "further investigation underway". The live snakes included reptiles often sold in the pet trade, and were largely non-venomous, or with venom too weak to affect people. They included garter snakes, a rhino rat snake and a Kenyan sand boa, among others. In early June, customs officers stopped a passenger smuggling dozens of venomous vipers, also arriving from Thailand. Days later, officers stopped another traveller carrying 100 creatures including lizards, sunbirds and tree-climbing possums. Wildlife trade monitor TRAFFIC, which battles the smuggling of wild animals and plants, has warned of a "very troubling" trend in trafficking driven by the exotic pet trade. More than 7,000 animals, dead and alive, have been seized along the Thailand-India air route in the last 3.5 years, it said.

Pakistan national captured in Jammu identified as terrorist guide, interrogation on
JAMMU: A Pakistani national arrested along the Line of Control (LoC) near Jammu and Kashmir's border districts of Poonch and Rajouri while attempting to infiltrate into India is a terrorist guide, officials said on Monday. Mohammed Arif was leading a group of four Jaish-e-Mohammad (JeM) terrorists into the Indian side when he was overpowered and arrested by alert Army troops on Sunday afternoon. The terrorists with him jumped from a steep cliff and returned to the Pakistani side with injuries, the officials said. Arif, a resident of Datote village in Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK), was arrested from the forward Hajura post in Gambhir area under the Army's Ace of Spades division, they added. Recapping the events of the day, they said vigilant troops, maintaining an aggressive surveillance posture in the rugged terrain, detected suspicious movement of a group of suspected terrorists attempting to exploit the difficult terrain and dense foliage in order to infiltrate. While Arif, in his late 20s, was "tactfully captured", the four terrorists jumped off the cliff when they noticed the Indian Army. They landed in 'No Man's Land' and returned to Pakistani side under the cover of thick foliage and adverse weather conditions, the officials said.
