QuickCheck: Was the late Man from U.N.C.L.E. star David McCallum also responsible for one of hip-hop's most iconic samples?
The late David McCallum is bettern known as a generation-spanning actor who became a familiar face on TV, first in the 1960s playing Russian spy Illya Kuryakin in the Man from U.N.C.L.E. and then again in the 2000s as the eccentric Dr Donald "Ducky' Mallard on NCIS.
In between his acting pursuits, McCallum also dabbled in music, and chatter on the Internet says he is responsible for one of hip-hop's most iconic samples.
Is this true?

According to Rolling Stone magazine, McCallum, who was also a classically trained musician, performed a track called The Edge, composed by David Axelrod, that was originally released in 1967 as part of McCallum's album Music: A Bit More of Me.
The first few bars of the song are instantly recognisable for hip-hop fans as it was sampled as the opening riff on Dr Dre's seminal 2000 track The Next Episode, which also features OGs Snoop Dogg, Kurupt and Nate Dogg.
According to Rolling Stone, the sample had also been used in 198 by hip-hop trio Missin Linx for their song MIA.
In fact, a check on the WhoSampled database, which lists samples and where they are used, McCallum's The Edge is sampled in 50 songs in total.
McCallum died on Sept 23, 2023, at the age of 90.

'There is no need to get back the people who rejected us,' said @NaimFathullah who was clearly uninterested in such faithless males. 'The women of the current age are frightening. All of them are into black magic,' added @anabismatli. Also, @Ferdz7878 pointed out that Nasi Kangkang was not the solution to the problem. Apparently, the man becomes stupid after consuming it, and it would not be a real family environment. 'Instead of Nasi Kangkang, it is better to open your legs while looking pretty in front of your husband. He will return to you' said a 'marriage expert,' although the statement was obviously satire. Perhaps the winning comment went to @Tesstisss who said the Nasi Kangkang was most effective when she was having her period. Either that or boiling her underwear in the chicken soup for his consumption. Apparently the internet is never deficient in creativity. @blokchainfarm further added that she could have just given him rice laced with poison. Supposedly revenge is best served cold. But why go to such length to win back a cheating man when she could just turn her black magic on a rich Datuk? And that was exactly what @HIdnal suggested, adding that she could just be content being the second or third wife. The answer lies in the chemical depilatories within the solution. Depilatories work by breaking down the keratin structure of the hair by inducing chemical reactions. Keratin is a structural protein that gives the hair its strength and is stabilized by disulphide bonds. All depilatories function by disrupting the disulphide bonds which then destabilizes keratin.
