EA Sports snubs Steelers EDGE T.J. Watt on Madden 26 99 Club

USA Today6 days ago
On Monday, EAP Sports dropped its list of players in the 99 Club for the upcoming Madden 26 video game. These are the rare group of players who earn a 99 player rating, which is the best you can get. Only seven players made the cut this year and one who just missed was Pittsburgh Steelers edge defender T.J. Watt.
Watt had a 97 rating in Madden 25, up from a 94 in Madden 24. Watt struggled down the stretch last season but was still one of the best defensive players in the NFL. Meanwhile, Cleveland Browns defensive end Myles Garrett was on the list and was the only defensive player who earned a 99 player rating. This is a big sting for Steelers fans as the rivalry between Garrett and Watt among the fanbase is heated.
EA Sports is giving early access to Madden 26 for seven days on August 7 if you pre-order the game. The official release date is August 14.

Lamar Jackson becomes second Louisville football player to join Madden's 99 Club

For the first time in his NFL career, Baltimore Ravens quarterback Lamar Jackson has earned his way into the Madden video game franchise's 99 Club. EA Sports announced July 28 Jackson would be among the members of The 99 Club in Madden 26. The former Louisville quarterback is one of seven players earning the honor this year, marking the most since Madden 19's release ahead of the 2018 NFL season. Jackson's inclusion in The 99 Club comes after he racked up 5,087 total yards and 45 total touchdowns while leading the Ravens to a 12-5 regular-season record. He led the league both in passer rating (119.6) and QBR (77.3) while his interception percentage of 0.8% was second-best in the league behind only Justin Herbert (0.6%). Jackson's stellar performance allowed him to finish second in the league's MVP voting for 2024 behind Buffalo Bills quarterback Josh Allen. It was also enough to get him into The 99 Club, about which he expressed excitement while receiving a flashy chain honoring his induction into the exclusive fraternity. "Aye, this is crazy," Jackson said of the chain. "I appreciate you guys. Shoutout to Madden for putting me in the 99 club again. Let's get ready for this season." Jackson's previous high rating came in Madden 25, when he earned a preseason mark of 98 overall. He has had a rating of at least 91 in five of the last six Madden releases, with his 87 rating in Madden 23 serving as the outlier. Jackson joined linebacker Ray Lewis, offensive tackle Jonathan Ogden and safety Ed Reed as the only Ravens players to be a part of Madden's 99 Club. The veteran quarterback is also the second Louisville product to earn the honor; former Philadelphia Eagles kicker David Akers was the first to do so in Madden 06. Steelers star T.J. Watt opens up about challenges in facing OT Troy Fautanu

Troy Fautanu shocked the Steel City with his handling of T.J. Watt in Latrobe — but the star defender isn't shying away from defeat; he welcomes the challenge. Selected with the 20th overall pick in the first round of the 2024 NFL Draft, the Steelers hold Fautanu in high regard heading into 2025 — and so does Watt, who recently explained why facing off against the second-year Steeler is already paying dividends. 'And for me, it's awesome because Troy's a young guy, comes from college," Watt said via NFL Training Camp Interviews on SiriusXM. "I go up against a lot of young tackles at times, but he's very, very athletic. He's not that giant, oversized tackle that can't move. So it's a lot of fun for me to be able to go up against him and get his feet moving. And it challenges me every day.' Earlier this week in training camp, Fautanu turned heads with two pass-block wins against Watt. While some may be quick to shift criticism toward the new highest-paid non-quarterback in the league, the situation speaks more to the abilities of Fautanu — who's primed for a Year 2 breakout. Steel sharpens steel is the definition of the battles between these two talented players — and clearly, Watt is excited about what he'll gain from these opportunities this season.
