CM Siddaramaiah accuses BJP of spreading lies on funds for Urdu
Siddaramaiah said that for 2025-26, the State Government has allocated Rs 34,438 crore to the Department of Primary and Secondary Education and Rs 4,150 crore to schools under the Social Welfare and other departments.
'A total of Rs 38,688 crore, all meant for Kannada-medium education. In addition, Rs 999.3 crore has been set aside to maintain government schools and improve infrastructure,' he said, adding that all this money supports Kannada education. 'So when BJP claims that only Rs 32 crore is given to Kannada, it is clearly a political lie meant to mislead the people,' Siddaramaiah added.
'As for the Rs 100 crore given under the Minority Welfare Department - this is for upgrading Urdu-medium schools with better classrooms, teachers, textbooks, and infrastructure. This is not just for language, but for the overall improvement of schools that serve a large number of students,' the CM elaborated.

Transport workers' stir triggers political slugfest between CM and LoP in Karnataka
The Tuesday protest by the public transport employees triggered a slugfest between Chief Minister Siddaramaiah and Leader of the Opposition (LoP) R. Ashok, with the latter blaming the former for the situation. The Chief Minister launched a counterattack, blaming Mr. Ashok, who earlier handled the transport portfolio in the erstwhile BJP government, for failing to resolve the problems of transport workers back then. It all began with Mr. Ashok blaming the 'misrule' of the Chief Minister and the State's 'financial bankruptcy' as the reasons for the transport workers going on a strike, and demanding the Chief Minister's resignation. 'Save Karnataka and allow Kannadigas to live in peace by tendering resignation to your post,' Mr. Ashok said in a social media post. This Chief Minister shot back, saying it was when Mr. Ashok was the Transport Minister that the transport staff had gone on a 15-day strike as they were not being paid their salaries fully then. Unlike the Congress government that had implemented a pay hike with retrospective effect, the erstwhile BJP government had resorted to prospective revision for them, he said. He further alleged that the recruitment of staff and purchase of new buses had been stopped during the BJP rule, while a financial burden of ₹5,900 crore towards various expenses, including pending diesel bills, had been passed on to the next government. However, the Congress that came to power had appointed 10,000 staff and included 5,200 new buses to the fleet, he said. He alleged that the BJP dispensation had borrowed ₹2,000 crore to pay for diesel bills and Provident Fund of the staff, but left the loan repayment to the Congress government. Mr. Siddaramaiah urged Mr. Ashok to remember the 'injustice' done by the BJP dispensation to transport workers before pointing an accusing finger at the Congress government.

In an official statement, the Ministry of Defence said, 'The Defence Acquisition Council, under the chairmanship of Raksha Mantri Rajnath Singh on August 5, approved various proposals amounting to a total cost of about Rs 67,000 crore.' 'This would enhance night driving capability of BMP and provide higher mobility and operational advantage to the Mechanised Infantry,' the statement said. Autonomous craft and upgraded missile defence The Indian Navy is set to acquire Compact Autonomous Surface Craft, BrahMos Fire Control System & Launchers, and an upgraded BARAK-1 Point Defence Missile System. According to the ministry, 'The procurement of Compact Autonomous Surface Craft will provide the capability to the Indian Navy for detection, classification and neutralisation of threats in anti-submarine warfare missions.' Radars for mountainous borders Meanwhile, the Indian Air Force (IAF) will receive Mountain Radars and an upgraded SAKSHAM/SPYDER Weapon System. 'The procurement of mountain radars will enhance the air surveillance capability along and across the borders in the mountainous region,' the ministry stated. 'The upgradation of SAKSHAM/SPYDER System for integration with Integrated Air Command and Control System will enhance the Air Defence capability,' it added. MALE drones for surveillance A major approval was granted for the procurement of Medium Altitude Long Endurance (MALE) Remotely Piloted Aircraft (RPAs) for use across all three services. 'The proposed MALE RPAs can carry multiple payloads & weapons and operate at longer ranges for long endurance missions. They will significantly enhance round-the-clock surveillance and combat capability of the Armed Forces,' the ministry noted. Support, maintenance approvals The DAC also cleared critical sustenance and maintenance proposals, including for India's strategic airlift and missile defence assets. 'AoN was also accorded for sustenance of C-17 and C-130J fleets and comprehensive annual maintenance contract of S-400 Long Range Air Defence Missile System,' the ministry said.
