LAHAD DATU: Two men were sentenced to seven years in prison and ordered given 10 strokes of the cane, respectively by the Sessions Court, here, on Monday. Judge Suhaila Selag imposed the sentence to Adahar Zaini, 38-year-old local, and Hendrikus Herman, 28-year-old Indonesian, after they pleaded guilty to the charge against them. Adahar and Hendrikus were charged with having 32.63 grammes of syabu on March 22 by the roadside of Kampung Panji. Both of the accused were originally charged under Section 39B of the Dangerous Drug Act 1952 at Magistrate's Court on April 3. However, the charge was amended to Section 39A(2) of the Dangerous Drug Act 1952 after the chemist's report obtained the actual weight of the drugs. Kelantan Immigration uncovers use of fake passport stamps by worker agents
RANTAU PANJANG: The state Immigration Department has detected a small number of agents managing the entry of Thai workers into Malaysia who are suspected of using fake passport stamps. State Immigration director Mohamed Yusoff Khan Mohamad Hassan said the discovery was made following the inspection of six "roadtour" vans. He said the vehicles entered the country through the Immigration, Customs, Quarantine and Security (ICQS) complex here. "In the operation conducted this afternoon, we inspected a total of 42 Thais after stopping the vehicles in which they were travelling. "Checks revealed that the passport of one of the drivers had Immigration stamps that looked suspicious and lacked an entry stamp from Thai authorities. "The driver has since been detained for further investigations," he told reporters here today. Yusoff said the two-hour operation which began at 5.30pm, involved more than 20 officers. He said the Thais, mostly women, were being held for questioning. The foreigners were heading to Kuala Lumpur to work when arrested by Immigration officers. All have been sent to the department's enforcement office in Kota Baru for documentation.

Man gets 22 years' jail, 9 strokes of rotan for raping another niece

(Facebook pic) PETALING JAYA : A 31-year-old man serving time for raping his niece has been sentenced to a further 22 years in prison and nine strokes of the rotan after pleading guilty to 17 charges involving an older niece of his. The convict pleaded guilty in the Ayer Keroh sessions court to four counts each of rape, sodomy and sexual penetration with an object, as well as five counts of physical sexual assault. He was charged with committing the offences when the victim was 12 at a house in Kampung Tanah Merah, Krubong, between November 2022 and July 2023, Harian Metro reported. He was altogether sentenced to 166 years in jail, including 22 years on each rape charge, and nine strokes of the rotan for the offences. Judge Rohatul Akmar Abdullah ordered the prison sentences to run concurrently from the date of his arrest on Aug 18, 2023, but for the whipping to be administered consecutively. Rohatul also ordered him to undergo mandatory counselling and to be placed under police supervision for three years after his release from prison. On July 7, the sessions court sentenced the same man to 15 years in prison and six strokes of the rotan on four charges of rape and one of sexual assault against another niece, the younger sister of the victim in today's case.
