A spokesperson from Putrajaya Corporation said the plants, sourced from various parts of Peninsular Malaysia, are intended to enrich the diversity of floral displays and attract visitors with their unique beauty and variety. The plants were transported in four special sorties by the Royal Malaysian Air Force (RMAF), from the Subang Air Base to the Labuan Air Base, on July 11. The deliveries were carried out in phases, with the first batch arriving last week, followed by the second batch, which landed at approximately 10am Saturday. The RMAF also delivered numerous equipment and support materials needed for the festival's preparations. BFF 2025 is a joint initiative by the Federal Territories Department, Labuan Corporation, Putrajaya Corporation and Kuala Lumpur City Hall. The five-day festival will be held from July 26 to 30 at the Labuan International Sea Sports Complex and is expected to draw visitors from across the region. Adding prestige to the event, Her Majesty Raja Zarith Sofiah, Queen of Malaysia, is scheduled to officiate the opening ceremony on July 26. Beyond showcasing floral artistry, the festival aims to promote eco-tourism, sustainability, and strengthen collaboration among the three federal territories of Labuan, Kuala Lumpur and Putrajaya. * Follow us on our official WhatsApp channel and Telegram for breaking news alerts and key updates! * Do you have access to the Daily Express e-paper and online exclusive news? Jesselton Point operations remain with Suria Bumiria, not Easybook
Published on: Wednesday, July 16, 2025 Published on: Wed, Jul 16, 2025 Text Size: KOTA KINABALU: Suria Bumiria Sdn Bhd has clarified that it continues to operate the Jesselton Point Ferry Terminal (JPFT) and has not transferred control to Easybook. Easybook, the company explained, only functions as the ticketing platform provider under the Centralised Terminal Ticketing (CTT) System for trips to nearby islands and other key transport terminals in Sabah. Advertisement Suria Bumiria also addressed concerns about fee changes, saying a revised business model - developed with boat operators through town-hall sessions - ensures transparent rates and a professional booking system agreed upon by all parties. The model supports plans for a RM20 million relocation of the terminal to Kota Kinabalu Port's South Jetty, forming part of the larger Jesselton Docklands waterfront project. The company reaffirmed its commitment to fair pricing, proper registration processes, and improved tourism service standards, working closely with operators to maintain JPFT as a key transport hub. * Follow us on our official WhatsApp channel and Telegram for breaking news alerts and key updates! * Do you have access to the Daily Express e-paper and online exclusive news? This will be a perfect platform to announce to the world what Sandakan has in store to welcome the world over,' said Teo after leading the association's committee members to attend a coordination meeting with the Sandakan Municipal Council regarding the initiative recently. 'We are delighted that the iconic sun bear has been chosen as the VM26 icon and the world's only Bornean Sun Bear Conservation Centre (BSBCC) is located in Sandakan. We believe that this presents a great opportunity to further enhance Sandakan's reputation as the must-visit destination in Borneo,' he added. Explore rural tourism, businesses told
Published on: Wednesday, July 16, 2025 Published on: Wed, Jul 16, 2025 Text Size: Kota Kinabalu: Assistant Minister of Tourism, Culture and Environment Datuk Joniston Bangkuai has encouraged business leaders to explore tourism related opportunities in rural areas to complement the growing industry in urban centres. He said rural tourism is emerging as a key focus for Sabah and presents untapped opportunities for business involvement. Advertisement Many rural communities, he noted, have already taken the lead in developing community-based tourism, and further support from the private sector would help strengthen and expand these grassroots efforts. Joniston, who also chairs Sabah Tourism Board (STB), said increased business activity in rural areas would contribute to local income opportunities, support overall rural development, and enhance the quality as well as sustainability of existing tourism initiatives. He gave these remarks during a meeting with Kota Kinabalu Chinese Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KKCCI) members, led by its President Datuk Michael Lui, who also presented a token of appreciation to Joniston during the session (pic) . The meeting touched on various matters, including tourism recovery and the importance of collaboration between the government and private sector in supporting events and destination promotion. Michael thanked the Ministry and STB for promoting golf tourism and for the support given to KKCCI's golf event in May, while also commending their continued efforts to bring more tourists into Sabah, which he said has helped boost business confidence in Kota Kinabalu. He noted that the current momentum in tourism is encouraging, especially post-pandemic, and said local businesses are feeling the positive effects, with hopes for continued collaboration to attract both international and domestic tourists to Sabah. Michael also welcomed the call to explore rural areas, stating that the business community is open to supporting initiatives that can create new business opportunities while contributing to broader tourism development. * Follow us on our official WhatsApp channel and Telegram for breaking news alerts and key updates! * Do you have access to the Daily Express e-paper and online exclusive news?
