Denise Van Outen 'wary' of trusting new boyfriend despite being 'smitten'
Her love life has been anything but smooth sailing over the past few years, but after Denise Van Outen went public with her new boyfriend Adam Butler at Glastonbury Festival, a source claims the former Big Breakfast presenter is 'taking it slow – but she's very happy'.
Loved-up Denise was spotted holding hands with the businessman in the VIP area at the festival, where she surprised fans with a secret DJ gig. According to our source, Denise feels she's finally hit the mark with her new man.
'She's taking her time, but she's never felt happier and she feels this time she's got it right. Her friends and family can see she's in a really great place and are delighted for her. It's been really hard for Denise to trust again after her relationship with Eddie [Boxshall] – it was a big deal for her.
'She wanted to keep this new relationship quiet and not put it all out there, but people who know her can see how happy she is with Adam.'
Denise, 51, told new last year that she felt 'liberated' as a single woman, but things have clearly changed as she couldn't have looked more delighted to be with her new love.
Her blossoming romance comes after Denise's confession that she only took up golf in order to meet men, ditching dating apps and turning to the sport in 2014 after lots of her male friends had started playing.
The TV presenter and DJ shares a daughter Betsy, 15, with theatre star Lee Mead, with the two divorcing in 2013.
Denise told host Russell Kane on TUI's podcast Pack Your Bags, 'I got into it after my divorce, and I wanted to go somewhere where there are just loads of men.
'When you're young, you just go to a nightclub. And I was like, 'I just don't want to spend all night in the nightclub. Where have all the nightclubbers gone now?'
'And I looked, and most of my male friends have grown up and got into golf. I thought, 'Perfect.''
Rumours of a new romance began circulating in April after Adam joined Denise for a Maldives break. The pair were then spotted last month in the Akira Back restaurant at London's Mandarin Oriental hotel, following a series of dates.
Prior to meeting Adam, Denise had dated property developer Jimmy Barba for 18 months, but she confirmed their break-up in November 2023. Last year, she admitted she had joined celebrity dating app Raya in the hopes of finding The One.
So her new romance must be welcome after a tricky few years. Denise's relationship with fiancé Eddie Boxshall broke down in January 2022 after seven years, following revelations that he had been sexting other women.
Denise confirmed the split on Instagram, stating she would 'always treasure the good times' but that it 'saddened' her to confirm the separation. She said later that she was prioritising her self-worth and self-respect.
Our source continues, 'Denise was very hurt after the break-up with Eddie and it took her a long time to find her confidence in a relationship again.
'She's a tough cookie, but wears her heart on her sleeve, so when she's hurt by someone, it hits her hard and she puts her walls up, which most people can relate to.
'She's had a lot of support from good friends like Vanessa Feltz and Myleene Klass, and everyone has been rooting for her.
'Thankfully, she's feeling really happy and strong again, and she won't let her past experiences ruin things for her.'
Last May, Denise told OK! magazine that she was entering her fifties feeling 'blessed' and that, after seven months of being single, she was 'really loving it'. She added that she'd never allowed herself 'breathing space' between relationships.
She said, 'My parents have been married for 55 years and they've always been the benchmark for me when it comes to relationships.
'I hoped my love life would be like that, but obviously things have turned out differently. I'm OK with that. We live in a different age.'
Admitting that she had always 'put everything' into romantic relationships, Denise said that she had changed. 'I'm older and wiser, and because I've had my fingers burnt a few times, I now know what I don't want.'
Adding that she was enjoying going on dates, she said, 'I don't feel pressured to rush into anything. 'When the time's right, then I'll be ready to meet Mr Right. Until that happens, I'm just going to sit back and go with the flow.'
Thanks to her new man, it seems Denise may just have found exactly what she wants, at exactly the right time.

Kneecap fans at Glasgow gig rally around trio after TRNSMT axe
The three members of Kneecap arrived at the O2 Academy in Glasgow on Tuesday evening ahead of their gig there, where they were greeted by pro-Palestinian demonstrators waving flags. KNEECAP fans gathered outside the band's gig in Glasgow have spoken of their support for the Irish rap trio despite them being axed from festival slots. Kneecap were axed from the line-up of TRNSMT in the city amid a row over an investigation by counter-terror police into Liam Og O hAnnaidh, who performs as Mo Chara, who is accused of allegedly displaying a flag in support of the proscribed terrorist organisation Hezbollah at a gig in 2024. The rap group have been outspoken critics of the war in Gaza and with censorship of their Glastonbury performance linked to their views on Palestine. READ MORE: Insider lifts lid on workings of Corbyn-Sultana project in Scotland A number of fans and demonstrators spoke to The National outside the venue about their support for Kneecap. One woman from Lanark said: "I'm here for the music, but I'm also here for support. I'm here for Palestine. I'm here for a united Ireland. I'm here for a better future and for free speech." She went on to add: "I'm hoping Glasgow can tell the world tonight that we're unified, that we stand together against hate, and that we stand together against anybody that thinks oppression is acceptable." One couple from Arbroath said they had originally planned to go to TRNSMT just to see the band, but So were "glad" they hadn't "they were just going to go to waste". They added: "Everyone's here for the same reason, there's no one here for a different reason other than the music and their views." A father had brought his teenager daughter to the gig from Airdrie, telling The National Kneecap reminded him of American rappers N.W.A from the 1980s. N.W.A are among the most significant figures of the rap genre, and were considered to be controversial for their explicit lyrics, as well as their consistent accusations of institutional racism within the police. He said: "They all sang about where they grew up and I think it's a lot of similarities between them, they're singing about their life in the streets and things like that. "I'm not very politically minded, but I do understand where they're coming from." TRNSMT cancelled Kneecap's performance at the end of May over safety concerns from Police Scotland. The police force said it has a 'proportionate and considered policing plan' ahead of Kneecap's gig in Glasgow, which replaced their cancelled slot at the TRNSMT festival. As well as Kneecap's sold-out gig, Billie Eilish and Kendrick Lamar are also performing in Glasgow on Tuesday. READ MORE: Ex-Irish taoiseach says he's 'never been so glad' Ireland out of Nato In May, Scotland's First Minister John Swinney called for TRNSMT to cancel the performance on July 11, saying that 'organisers of TRNSMT have got to consider that issue'. O hAnnaidh was charged under the name Liam O'Hanna by the Metropolitan Police in May, over the alleged display of a Hezbollah flag at a gig, and appeared at Westminster Magistrates' Court on June 18. The furore led to calls from Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer and Conservative Party leader Kemi Badenoch for Glastonbury to cancel a performance from the Belfast rappers on June 28, which the festival organisers did not do. Ahead of the Glasgow gig, superintendent Paul Douglas of Police Scotland said: 'We are aware of a number of events and concerts due to take place in the Greater Glasgow area in the week beginning Monday July 7. 'A proportionate and considered policing plan is in place within the city and we are working with a number of stakeholders to ensure the safety of all those attending these events and where possible minimise disruption to the people of Glasgow.'

LEWIS CAPALDI has spoken in depth for the first time about returning to the stage – admitting he thought he'd never perform again. The Someone You Loved singer says he's no longer taking antidepressant Sertraline after successfully battling his demons and has learned to accept he will always have some level of anxiety. 15 15 15 Lewis said: 'I am doing much better. I'm not on antidepressants any more.' Referencing his new No1 single Survive, Lewis told fans during a live stream: 'It was f***ing hard to get off it. You could say I've survived getting off Sertraline but let's not get into that. This is happy stuff. I'm trying to share less.' Lewis has linked up with online therapy platform BetterHelp to offer 734,000 hours of free therapy to fans. The number represents his 734-day career break. Data from BetterHelp's State of Stigma report reveals 41 per cent of UK men feel uncomfortable discussing their mental health due to fear of stigma, despite one in four experiencing anxiety. Lewis went into detail about his troubling 2023 Glastonbury set, in which he couldn't sing after struggling with Tourettes and anxiety. Lewis says the performance was a wake-up call after neglecting his mental and physical health for years. He said: 'I think I probably knew two songs into the set at Glastonbury that I couldn't do it. 'I was on stage and I was on complete autopilot. In my head I was feeling a thousand miles away and I watched it back and I feel sad. As far as I was concerned, I was done indefinitely. 'I didn't take a break to just focus on getting better. I took a break because I needed a break to release the pressure value a little bit.' Lewis Capaldi makes surprise appearance at Noah Kahan gig at BST Hyde Park show Lewis added: 'I was achieving my dream. If there was a film, I've got to the end and I've done it. But it's not how I thought it was going to be. 'The thing that I wanted to do the most made me feel the worst. Watching it, I just see someone who is completely not there and having the worst moment of his life. 'I was lying my way through therapy before. 'I was telling them what I thought they wanted to hear or things I'd read online, so I could get out of there as quickly as possible. 'I struggle most weeks to get myself up and go to therapy — even to go to open my laptop and talk to the therapist can be really difficult.' Looking ahead to a positive future, Lewis added: 'I've felt the best I've felt in a long time thorough therapy. 'I think I will always be an anxious person. Accepting that's always going to be there for me is a a big thing. It's about how I respond to anxiety.'
