Sunday Brunch turns awkward as host admits 'no wonder we've never won a Bafta'
Sunday Brunch took an awkward twist in the latest instalment, leaving host Simon Rimmer to point out their lack of Bafta recognition.
On the show, which aired Sunday (July 13), Simon was joined by his regular sidekick Tim Lovejoy, The Spanish Chef aka Omar Allibhoy, and a slew of starry guests including Conan Gray (singer), Sam Palladio (actor), Adam Kay (British TV writer), Laura Checkley (comedian), Aggy K Adams (actress) and Amy Macdonald (singer).
The atmosphere turned a little cringeworthy when Omar had to switch on the deafening blender to whip up a watermelon gazpacho soup, meant to be paired with his tuna carpaccio dish for the hosts and celeb guests on set.
Omar issued a pre-emptive apology before triggering the noisy contraption, prompting bewildered expressions all round as it roared on, uninterrupted, live on air.
Once the noise ceased, Simon returned to the spotlight, a touch sheepishly, acknowledging: "It's no wonder we've never won a Bafta," to the amusement of everyone present, reports the Express.
Despite the blender blunder passing relatively unnoticed by viewers, they didn't miss the chance to share their verdict on the episode as it broadcast live on Sunday, July 13.
A deluge of complaints hit X - the platform formerly known as Twitter - as viewers blasted Channel 4's cooking show, branding it "way past its sell by date" and some even speculated that the series might get axed within months.
One disgruntled viewer wrote: "There is a downside to being a celeb....having to promote your book/show on this boring #sundaybrunch."
Another exasperated tweet stated: "Sorry... How the f*** is #SundayBrunch still going. It feels unprofessional and is totally boring. They're currently asking how many teeth a Racoon has to a panel of people who, no doubt, want to sell us some s*** books. The show is tired. Next."
Echoing these sentiments, a third critic remarked: "I give it 6/12 months tops...this show has long past its sell by date #SundayBrunch."
The programme also faced criticism for its lacklustre content and unfamiliar celebrity guests, with many viewers expressing their disconnect on social media.
One person tweeted: "Legitimately all the guests are strangers to me. They could be standing at a bus stop. Does anyone watching know them? #sundaybrunch.
"Another panel of nobody's on #SundayBrunch...," a second user complained, while another added: "Nope. Not a clue as to who any of these Zlebz are.... #sundaybrunch."
Despite the barrage of negative feedback, there were those who enjoyed the latest instalment, with one fan praising the episode on Sunday Brunch's official Instagram account: "Brilliant show."

Rachel Riley's life including first marriage, Strictly romance and TV feud
Rachel Riley has been a recognisable TV personality for over 10 years and she's about to take on her biggest challenge on ITV's Shark! Celebrity Infested Waters Rachel Riley is an English TV presenter, who is best known for co-hosting Channel 4's daytime puzzle show, Countdown. The mathematics graduate also appears on the show's popular comedy spin-off, 8 Out of 10 Cats Does Countdown. Rachel, who was born in Rochford and raised in Southend-on-Sea, first joined Countdown at the age of 22 following encouragement from her mum in 2008. Her interest in maths and science has also led her to appear on The Gadget Show on Channel 5, ITV's It's Not Rocket Science and Sky Sports ' Friday Night Football. Now, let's take a look at Rachel's life away from the popular Channel 4 gameshow as she joins the cast of Shark! Celebrity Infested Waters on ITV1. Who was Rachel Riley first married to? Rachel married millionaire businessman Jamie Gilbert in 2012. The pair met while they were both studying at the University of Oxford. They briefly called time on their relationship in 2009, before rekindling their romance in 2011 and settling down in Essex. Rachel and Jamie separated after 16 months, with the couple announcing their divorce while Rachel was competing in the 2013 season of Strictly Come Dancing. Rachel later explained that her various TV commitments ended up taking a toll on their short marriage. "At that time, I was doing Countdown and The Gadget Show, so I was living in Essex, I was filming in Birmingham and in Salford, and then filming Strictly in Borehamwood, with a bit of It Takes Two in London," she told GQ at the time. "I was getting three hours' sleep a night, trying to fit in all these things... All you want to do at that time is the dancing because you know you've got to do this thing in a few days." The Countdown star went on to explain that Rachel was "still friends" with her ex-husband, adding: "It was the emotional distance that I needed to break away." Who was Rachel Riley's Strictly romance with? Rachel found love again with professional dancer Pasha Kovalev, who she was partnered with during her time on Strictly Come Dancing. The couple got together in 2014, and surprised friends and family with a whirlwind Las Vegas wedding in 2019. "So, we were never bothered about getting married, but then we just were like 'shall we just get married' once were were having the baby," Rachel previously told the Express. "And actually, we had such a nice day. It was really lovely. But we only decided the week before." Rachel and Pasha have since welcomed their two daughters, five-year-old Maven and three-year-old Noa, and often keep fans up to date with their lives via social media. Who did Rachel Riley have a TV feud with? Rachel has been rumoured to be in a feud with her former Countdown co-star Anne Robinson. The Weakest Link star previously revealed that she had quit Countdown over a pay dispute, and insisted on Rachel and Susie Dent's microphones being switched off. Rachel then ignited feud rumours when she confessed that Anne "might make you cry", and that the show's atmosphere became more fun after Anne had left. Anne has since denied a fall out between the pair. In May, she told The Telegraph: "It's just a story. Rachel was a bit talkative when I was interviewing the contestants but once we shut her up it was fine." Rachel quickly responded to Anne's comment, telling The Sun: "If Anne needs to mention me for publicity, then good luck to her. I have the same opinion of her as most people do." She added: "I don't pay any attention to what she says." Countdown is available to stream on Channel 4 and Shark! Celebrity Infested Waters kicks off on ITV1 and ITVX on Monday, July 14 at 9pm

Sunday Brunch star tearfully shares cancer update on live TV
Sunday Brunch star Morgan McGlynn Carr shared an emotional update with fans after being diagnosed with triple-negative breast cancer last year Sunday's episode of Sunday Brunch took a heartfelt turn when regular guest and cheesemonger Morgan McGlynn Carr teared up while discussing her battle with breast cancer. During the live broadcast on Sunday (July 13), an emotional Morgan shared with hosts Simon Rimmer and Tim Lovejoy, as well as the star-studded panel, that she had "got the all clear". Tears welled up in her eyes as she made the announcement, barely holding them back in front of guests including Conan Gray, Sam Palladio, Adam Kay, Laura Checkley, Aggy K Adams and Amy Macdonald. Choking up, she admitted: "As some of you know and some of you don't, I'm already wobbling, I am sorry." In a supportive gesture, Tim offered Morgan a comforting hug as she continued: "I got diagnosed with breast cancer last October, so we got the all clear, like a week ago." Applause filled the studio as Morgan, seizing the moment, urged: "I was just going to say, check your lumps, your bumps and trust your gut and yeah, that's it really", reports the Express. Acknowledging her support system, Tim noted Morgan's "really supportive friendship group," to which Morgan couldn't help but tear up again, responding: "Yes, I've been taken on surprise trips and I've had the biggest support system including you guys as well." Morgan was on the verge of breaking down again as she tried to express: "The love and support that I've felt," and turning to the famous faces before her, she confessed: "I'm honestly not normally like this." Tim softly reassured her with the words: "It's a big thing to go through," capturing the emotional weight of the moment. Morgan, a regular on the show, recently opened up to her Instagram followers about her secret struggle with a life-altering illness. The cheesemonger posted a photo of herself from a hospital bed, accompanied by the caption: "In October 2024, I was diagnosed with triple-negative breast cancer. It was nothing short of earth-shattering. But we've done our best to keep it as normal as possible for our daughter." A Sunday Brunch team member since 2016, Morgan married Ben Carr three years ago. Sharing an update on her life since the diagnosis, Morgan courageously recounted her experience: "Treatment is different for every person. "No two paths are the same. But here's what happened to me. I was given a week before chemo to get my ducks in a row, which included chopping my hair off and IVF and egg retrieval, something I'm incredibly grateful I was able to do. "Then came six months of weekly chemotherapy. The hardest thing I've ever done. Some weeks I sat for 13 hours at a time, thanks to my friends who kept me company. And for those who've been through the cold cap, you'll know it's no joke." Morgan confessed that she needed time to process her emotions before sharing her story, admitting she had been completely unaware of cancer symptoms prior to her diagnosis. Determined to make a difference, she bravely chose to open up about her health struggles, hoping her story might aid others facing similar challenges. Morgan passionately implored: "If even one person sees this and it prompts them to check a lump or get a second opinion, it could save a life. Please trust your gut." Monty Python's Eric Idle says he's had a 'reprieve' after cancer
Eric Idles was among the comedic geniuses behind the revolutionary sketch show Monty Python's Flying Circus Actor and comedian Eric Idle has expressed gratitude for 'every single day' after overcoming pancreatic cancer. The Monty Python star, 82, received an early diagnosis in 2019 and was successfully treated for the illness. Now, in a heartfelt 'Letter To My Younger Self' for the Big Issue, he's once again reflected on the ordeal. "I miss a lot of people. Great people like Mike Nichols [director of The Graduate]," he wrote. "I will find myself thinking of a funny line and thinking, you must tell Mike that. Or Jonathan Miller [a British public thinker and former comedian]. So many of my heroes have gone, like Robin Williams. I still kind of occasionally speak to Billy Connolly, but I really miss him. "You've got to find other people, you know, because there are still other funny people you can have dinner with or play guitar with. I got lucky, because I had to, I survived pancreatic cancer. So I feel that since 2019 I've had a reprieve. So I don't know or care what people say about me, I'm lucky every single day." Eric also looked back on some of the challenges in financing Monty Python's Life Of Brian, a film whose creators received assistance from Beatles icon George Harrison. He said: "For a while we had no money. (Media impresario) Lew Grade read it and just went nuts. He said, 'We can't possibly make this'. I went to America to find money. "I had been talking to George Harrison, who was a huge fan, and he said, 'I'll phone you in the morning, don't worry'. And I thought, well, nobody's got four and a half million dollars. "But finally, when everybody turned us down, there was a call from him saying, 'I've got you the money'. He had mortgaged his house and his business and raised the cash and put it all on a Python film. The most extraordinary thing to do." Eric, alongside John Cleese, Graham Chapman, Terry Jones, Terry Gilliam, and Sir Michael Palin, were the comedic geniuses behind the revolutionary sketch show Monty Python's Flying Circus. The series was a massive success, with 45 episodes produced from 1969 to 1974. It also gave rise to five films, including the 1975 classic 'The Holy Grail', which later inspired the hit musical 'Spamalot', penned by Eric himself.
