DJB authorised to clear projects up to ₹50 cr. to boost Yamuna clean-up
According to the revised financial powers, the DJB Chairman can now clear projects up to ₹50 crore, the Chief Executive Officer up to ₹25 crore, and a DJB member up to ₹5 crore.
'This reform is part of our commitment to Prime Minister Narendra Modi's vision of 'minimum government, maximum governance',' Ms. Gupta said, adding that it will help eliminate red tape and accelerate development on the ground.
Ms. Gupta alleged that the previous Aam Aadmi Party government had stripped the DJB of financial powers, leading to delays and stagnation in essential infrastructure work. 'As a result, the Yamuna remained polluted and Delhiites continued to suffer from irregular water supply,' she said.
Describing the move as a 'landmark reform', the CM said her government's objective is to clean the Yamuna rapidly and effectively by treating polluted drain water with modern systems to prevent further contamination, while also ensuring a reliable supply of clean drinking water to residents.
'For a long time, Yamuna cleaning plans remained only on paper due to cumbersome and lengthy approval processes. That bottleneck has now been removed. Our government is committed to delivering result-oriented governance, not entangling people in paperwork,' she said.

AAP Legislator Detained In Gujarat Over Alleged Assault On Government Official
Gujarat police have taken Aam Aadmi Party legislator Chaitar Vasava into custody in connection with serious criminal charges, including attempted murder, following an alleged violent confrontation with a government official in Narmada district. The arrest occurred on Saturday after Vasava allegedly attacked a taluka panchayat functionary at Dediapada, according to an official complaint filed with local authorities. The incident has drawn significant attention due to the severity of the charges and the political implications surrounding the detention of an elected representative. The confrontation reportedly began when Vasava became agitated over administrative decisions regarding the 'Aapno Taluko Vibrant Taluko' coordination committee, a local-level governance body. According to the complaint, the MLA objected strongly to his nominee not being considered for appointment as a member of this committee, which led to the escalation of tensions. During the altercation, Vasava allegedly directed abusive language toward the woman president of the Sagbara taluka, further compounding the seriousness of the incident. The alleged behavior has resulted in multiple criminal charges being filed against the legislator under various sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita. Law enforcement officials have registered a comprehensive First Information Report at Dediapada police station, encompassing several serious offenses. The charges include attempted murder, insulting the modesty of a woman through words and gestures, voluntarily causing hurt, criminal intimidation, intentional insult, and damage to property. This extensive list of charges reflects the gravity of the alleged incident and the multiple aspects of criminal behavior being investigated. In response to the arrest and potential for public unrest, local authorities have implemented Section 144 in the Dediapada area. This legal provision prohibits gatherings of four or more people as a precautionary measure to maintain law and order in the region. The imposition of such restrictions indicates the administration's concern about potential protests or demonstrations following the MLA's detention. The arrest has triggered immediate political reactions from AAP leadership, with party officials characterizing the detention as politically motivated and calling for Vasava's release. The party's response suggests they view the arrest as part of a broader political strategy rather than a legitimate law enforcement action. National Convenor Arvind Kejriwal responded swiftly to the arrest through social media, framing the incident within the context of recent electoral developments in Gujarat. Kejriwal claimed that the ruling BJP was "rattled" by AAP's victory in the Visavadar by-election and suggested that the arrest was a retaliatory measure designed to intimidate his party. In his statement, Kejriwal warned that such tactics would not succeed in intimidating AAP and predicted that the people of Gujarat would respond negatively to what he characterized as the BJP's "misgovernance, goondaism, and dictatorship." His comments reflect the party's strategy of positioning the arrest as evidence of authoritarian behavior by the ruling party. AAP leader Gopal Rai echoed similar sentiments, describing the arrest as "shameful" and linking it directly to the party's recent electoral success. Rai suggested that the BJP was resorting to "desperate tactics" following their defeat in the Visavadar by-election and reiterated that such actions would not intimidate AAP. The political rhetoric surrounding the arrest highlights the increasingly contentious relationship between AAP and the BJP in Gujarat, particularly following AAP's recent electoral gains in the state. The timing of the arrest, coming after AAP's by-election victory, has provided ammunition for the party's claims of political persecution. The incident also raises questions about the conduct expected of elected representatives and the appropriate response when political figures are accused of criminal behavior. The serious nature of the charges, including attempted murder and offenses against women, creates a complex situation where legal accountability must be balanced against political considerations. As the case proceeds through the legal system, it will likely continue to generate political controversy and debate about the treatment of opposition politicians in Gujarat. The outcome of the investigation and any subsequent legal proceedings will be closely watched by political observers and could have implications for the broader political landscape in the state. The arrest of Chaitar Vasava represents a significant development in Gujarat politics, combining serious criminal allegations with claims of political motivation, creating a situation that will require careful navigation by both legal authorities and political leaders as the case unfolds.

"Instilled spirit of 'nation first': Delhi CM Rekha Gupta pays tribute to Syama Prasad Mookerjee on birth anniversary
New Delhi [India], July 6 (ANI): Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta paid tribute to Bharatiya Jana Sangh founder Syama Prasad Mookerjee on his birthday and said he instilled the spirit of 'nation first' and 'fought' for India's unity. Earlier today, Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw, Delhi BJP President Virendraa Sachdeva, Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta, and other party leaders paid floral tributes on the occasion. CM Rekha Gupta remembered Syama Prasad Mookerjee by highlighting his contributions to nation-building and told reporters, 'If anyone sowed the first seed of nationalism in the soil of this country, it was Dr. Syama Prasad Mookerjee. He instilled the spirit of 'nation first' in the country. When the governments of that time were making decisions against the nation, he resigned from his ministerial position and fought for India's unity. 'One nation cannot have two constitutions, two heads, and two flags'--he had the courage to say this,' the Chief Minister said. The Delhi CM believed that unity and self-reliance can be brought about by walking in the footsteps of Mookerjee, CM Gupta added, 'On the birth anniversary of the revered Prasad Mookerjee, I extend my heartfelt greetings to the entire nation. I would like to say that by following the path he showed, we will all work together for the unity, self-reliance, and honour of the nation, and only then will we offer him true tribute.' BJP MP Yogendra Chandolia also paid his respects to Syama Prasad Mookerjee. Chandolia stated that Prime Minister Narendra Modi paid true tribute to the Bharatiya Jana Sangh founder by abrogating Article 370. 'Dr. Syama Prasad Mookerjee's life is one that everyone should study. His resignation from the Union Cabinet and the issues for which he resigned should be read about... Prime Minister Modi has not let Dr. Syama Prasad Mookerjee's sacrifice go in vain and has paid him true tribute by abolishing Article 370... I pay my respects to Prasad Mookerjee...' the BJP MP stated. Syama Prasad Mookerjee was the founder of Bharatiya Jana Sangh, the ideological parent organisation of the BJP. Born on July 6, 1901, in Calcutta, was a multifaceted personality - patriot, educationist, parliamentarian, statesman, and humanitarian. He inherited a legacy of erudition and nationalism from his father, Sir Ashutosh Mookerjee, an esteemed Vice-Chancellor of Calcutta University and Judge of the Calcutta High Court. In 1940, he became the acting President of the Hindu Mahasabha and declared complete independence for India as its political goal. Mookerjee resigned from the Bengal Cabinet in November 1942, protesting against the Governor's interference in administration and criticising provincial autonomy as ineffective. His humanitarian efforts during the Bengal famine of 1943, including relief initiatives, highlighted his commitment to serving society. Post-Independence, he joined the interim government under Jawaharlal Nehru as Minister for Industry and Supply, where he laid the foundation for India's industrial growth by establishing iconic institutions like the Chittaranjan Locomotive Factory, Sindri Fertilizer Corporation and the Hindustan. However, ideological differences led to his resignation, after which he founded the All-India Bharatiya Jan Sangh (1951) to champion nationalist ideals. According to the BJP's official website, on the issue of the Delhi pact with Likayat Ali Khan, Mookerjee resigned from the Cabinet on April 6, 1950. Later on October 21, 1951, Mookerjee founded the Bharatiya Jana Sangh in Delhi and became its first president. Mookerjee went to visit Kashmir in 1953 and was arrested on May 11. He died under detention on June 23, 1953. (ANI)

Yamuna cleaning may get push as DJB given financial muscle
NEW DELHI: The government has empowered the Delhi Jal Board (DJB) with increased financial autonomy. The DJB will now be able to independently implement high-cost projects, including Yamuna purification, drain water treatment, and improvement of regular drinking water supply, Chief Minister Rekha Gupta said on Saturday. According to the CM, such projects will no longer require cabinet approvals as the powers of the DJB chairperson, CEO, and other senior officials have also been increased. Gupta said that the previous government had stripped the DJB of all its financial powers, which brought critical works—like Yamuna cleaning, modern drainage systems, and water supply projects—to a standstill. As a result, the Yamuna remained polluted and Delhiites continued to suffer from irregular water supply. As per the new system, the DJB has been authorised to sanction all projects with estimated cost spend over `50 crore independently. It can approve higher-budget projects internally. Also, under the revised provisions, the DJB chairperson can approve projects worth up to `50 crore, the CEO up to Rs 25 crore, members (admin/water supply/drainage) up to `5 crore and other senior officers also have enhanced powers. The CM said that this move will lead to better decision-making at every level of the board and reduce unnecessary delays in execution. She reiterated her government's objective—to rapidly and effectively clean the Yamuna, treat dirty and foul-smelling drain water through modern systems to prevent further pollution of the river, and improve the capital's drinking water supply. She pointed out that for a long time, the Yamuna cleaning plans remained only on paper due to the lengthy approval processes. That bottleneck has now been removed. 'Our government is committed to delivering result-oriented governance, not entangling people in paperwork,' the CM said. Officials said now the sewage treatment plants and desilting plants will be installed rapidly when needed.
