‘Game time decision': Harris' availability for Riders still questionable despite return to practice
Saskatchewan Roughriders' quarterback Trevor Harris was a full participant at the team's closed practice Thursday, according to head coach Corey Mace.
'It was good to see him back out here doing his thing,' Mace told reporters after practice. 'We'll look at the tape and make the decision today.'
Harris took a hard hit to the head in the final minute of the first quarter of Friday night's game in Toronto against the Argonauts. There was a 15-yard roughing the passer penalty called on the play and Harris remained under centre to finish the game.
Through two practices this week, the team has listed Harris with a head injury and an illness.
Mace said Wednesday Harris' absence from practice was concussion related but that he had cleared nearly all protocols to be back on the field Thursday.
Despite being a full participant in practice, Harris' availability remains questionable for Saturday night when the Riders host the B.C. Lions.
'Truthfully, it might be a game time decision,' Mace said. 'Today was a big one. We played it smart and we want to make sure we're taking care of it.'
'But to have him come back out here was big time for us,' the head coach added.
To start the week, back-up Jake Maier was taking reps with the first team offense. He said he is prepared if Harris is unavailable this week.
Saskatchewan takes on the B.C. Lions at home Saturday. Kickoff is 5 p.m. at Mosaic Stadium.

Jays beat Angels 4-3 in 10 innings as Clement bunt causes chaos for visitors
Los Angeles Angels' Jo Adell (7) slides safely into second base with a double ahead of the tag from Toronto Blue Jays second baseman Andres Gimenez in fifth inning MLB baseball action in Toronto on Friday, July 4, 2025. THE CANADIAN PRESS/Jon Blacker TORONTO — A throwing error that travelled down the first-base line from Los Angeles Angels reliever Sam Bachman on an Ernie Clement bunt gave the Toronto Blue Jays a 4-3 walk-off win on Friday. With runners on first and second and none out, Clement bunted to the third-base side of the mound in the 10th inning scoring Myles Straw. Bachman threw high and the Blue Jays had their season-high sixth win in a row before 30,119 at Rogers Centre. Bachman (1-2) took the loss, while Chad Green (3-0) pitched the top of the 10th and registered the win. The Blue Jays sent seven players to the plate in a three-run sixth. Will Wagner scored on Andres Gimenez's single to left and the latter scored on Bo Bichette's single to left. George Springer scored on Zach Neto's error. Toronto starter Eric Lauer lost his magic in the seventh when Mike Trout and Taylor Ward singled to end his evening. Reliever Nick Sandlin was greeted with a 431-foot homer from Jo Adell to left centre for his 19th. In Lauer's six-plus innings, he was on the hook for two runs on three hits and a walk with six strikeouts. Lauer and his Los Angeles counterpart Kyle Hendricks were engaged in a pitchers' duel through five innings. Springer, who remained hot with a 2-for-4 game, broke through for Toronto's first hit, a one-out line-drive single to left field in the fourth inning. Adell led off the fifth inning for the Angels with a double into the left-field corner. Hendricks departed after 5 1/3 innings, giving up three runs on four hits, no walks and two strikeouts. TAKEAWAYS Angels: The Angels have pushed themselves into contention for a wild-card position. They began the day only 1 1/2 games behind the Seattle Mariners for the third and final American League spot. Blue Jays: Vladimir Guerrero Jr. had the night off to rest and recover after fouling a pitch off his right foot in the sixth inning on Thursday. KEY MOMENT An error from Angels shortstop Neto on an Addison Barger bouncer up the middle went from a possible double play to another run and a 3-0 Toronto lead. KEY STAT Springer has batted 22-for-43 (. 512) with four homers, 19 RBIs, 15 runs scored, six walks and three stolen bases in his last 12 games. UP NEXT Toronto's Max Scherzer (0-0) faces Jack Kochanowicz (3-8) in Saturday's middle game of the three-game series against the Angels. QB Nathan Rourke returns to lead Lions against Alouettes
(Photo credit: Anne-Marie Sorvin-Imagn Images) Quarterback Nathan Rourke will return from a two-game absence due to an oblique injury when he guides the BC Lions into Montreal to face the Alouettes on Saturday. Rourke got off to a fast start by throwing for 573 yards and four touchdowns while adding 11 carries for 112 yards in two games. Unfortunately for the Lions (1-3), they followed a 1-1 start by losing both games with 'Kid Canada' on the sideline and backup Jeremiah Masoli under center. 'Nathan will start for us. Nathan will go,' Lions head coach Buck Pierce said Thursday. 'He's looked good all week. He's responded better each and every day (in practice), which is the positive thing.' While Rourke is returning, Montreal (3-1) will be without quarterback Davis Alexander for second straight week due to a left hamstring injury. McLeod Bethel-Thompson will get the nod after completing 24 of 41 passes for 203 yards with one touchdown and two interceptions in the Alouettes' 35-17 loss last Sunday at Hamilton. The 37-year-old also mishandled a late-game snap that turned into a touchdown for the Tiger-Cats. 'That was a night I wish hadn't happened,' Bethel-Thompson said, per the Montreal Gazette. 'I'll take the good from it and know there's better football ahead to be played. I'm excited to show what I can do; what we can do as an offense. When we put it all together we're very, very dangerous. 'I was frustrated (against Hamilton). Any time you have an offensive performance like that you're going to be frustrated. I wasn't happy with that, wasn't happy with my performance. Our performance. It's never fun to lose. You put the work in and trust the bounces will go your way. I'll have to come back with a bigger and stronger mindset.' Alouettes head coach Jason Maas said Alexander likely will be back after the team returns from a bye week to host the Toronto Argonauts on July 17. Montreal signed veteran wide receiver Alexander Hollins on Tuesday. He was released by the Edmonton Elks and previously spent three seasons with the Lions, including a stellar campaign as a CFL West All-Star in 2023.
