Jenna Bush Hager revealed the details about her father's routine during her 'Morning Boost' segment on the Today show on Tuesday, June 3.
After showing the new TikTok trend of men calling their friends to wish them a good night, Bush Hager, 43, shared that her 78-year-old dad does something similar every morning.
'You know what my dad does every single morning?' she asked her co-hosts. 'He calls his best friend. Every single morning to say good morning and check in on him.'
Bush Hager's co-host and friend Savannah Guthrie joked that the former president, who now lives a quiet live in Texas, can't make the call at night due to his early bedtime.
"He can't say goodnight because he goes to bed at 6," Guthrie said.
"Well, that's true," Bush Hager agreed.
While Bush Hager didn't identify her dad's closest friend, PEOPLE confirmed with President Bush's office that the pal being referenced was former Commerce Secretary Donald L. Evans.
Evans, 78, worked on the former president's gubernatorial campaign, successfully helping to elect him as the governor of Texas in both 1994 and 1998. Evans was also the chairman of Bush's 2000 presidential campaign, and he later served as a member of the president's official Cabinet, leading the Department of Commerce.
On the George W. Bush Presidential Center website, Evans is referred to as a "trusted friend and advisor for more than four decades."
While Bush Hager didn't identify Evans, she has previously talked about some of her dad's other friends, including former first lady Michelle Obama.
In May, Bush Hager reflected on her dad's 'love language,' saying, "We love to tease my dad. And he likes it, usually, if he's in a good mood. But also, I just realized why my dad and Mrs. Obama are friends! They have the same love language."
She shared that their "love language" revolves around laughter.
As for Bush Hager's mom, former first lady Laura Bush, she appreciates the jokes too.
"My mom laughs hysterically at my dad," Bush Hager said of Laura. "My dad mainly makes fun of himself. He's self-deprecating, but my mom thinks he's the funniest person in the entire world."

Cooked: Celebrated Chef exits new venture after allegedly balking at free food for influencer because she wasn't famous enough

A prominent San Francisco chef threw in the apron at his newly opened cafe after allegedly belittling a TikTok influencer during a tense exchange over her follower count aired out in a viral video. The incident unfolded Wednesday at Kis Cafe in Hayes Valley, when 'micro-influencer' @itskarlabb described how she had pre-arranged a collab with the restaurant's team and showed up early to film content, according to a video she posted to her platform. 3 Influencer @itskarlabb was allegedly belittled by top chef Luke Sung over her supposedly low follower count, leaving her running from his new California restaurant in tears. itskarlabb/tiktok The influencer, known as Karla, claimed that a man — later identified as celebrated James Beard Award-nominated chef and co-owner Luke Sung — questioned her 15,000-follower count and told staff it was a 'mistake' to invite an influencer so small. 'I know they're talking about me, because I can hear them saying 'TikTok, views, followers' ,' she said in a later video, which has racked up more than 20 million views. The influencer said that when she introduced herself, Sung grilled her over whether she had researched the restaurant, a wine bar serving small bites. She insisted she knew the menu and the vibe, but Sung disagreed and began scrolling through her TikTok feed at full volume within earshot, the influencer said. 'After scrolling like, two times, he says to me that he doesn't think my videos are at the level which he wants his restaurant represented,' she recalled. 'It seemed like he was insinuating that my followers would not be able to afford to eat at this restaurant.' 3 Sung couldn't take the heat after the pair's alleged exchange went viral and left his new venture. San Francisco Chronicle via Getty Images Sung then reportedly asked, 'Do you know who I am?' and told Karla he was a two-time James Beard Award finalist and that his daughter is Big Apple vlogger, Isa Sung, who has 600,000 TikTok followers. He also dismissed the influencer's cooking videos she posted to her platform, dissing them as 'homey,' Karla said. The belittling exchange left her in tears, she said. 'I told him I felt disrespected and didn't want to collaborate anymore,' the influencer said. Karla's follower count has since skyrocketed to more than 350,000 since she shared the story on TikTok. The influencer said she wants to 'be an advocate for micro influencers' who don't receive as many handouts. 'You don't need to have a million followers to be respected or feel like you're making a difference,' she said. 3 Kis Cafe, which opened in May, announced that Sung had left as chef and co-owner. FOX By Friday, Kis Cafe's was getting cooked on Yelp, where its rating plunged from four to five stars to just over two stars, and reviews for 'Isa '– a 'pioneering' Cal-French restaurant that Sung previously opened and named after his influencer daughter — grew with haters lambasting the chef for his behavior. Kis Cafe, which opened in May, soon announced that Sung had left as a chef and co-owner, later clarifying he had done so of his 'own accord' and was not technically fired. 'Our chef's behavior was unacceptable, and he is no longer a part of the team,' Kis Cafe wrote in an Instagram post Thursday. The restaurant said it has now temporarily closed to 'restructure.' 'We want to create a space that's welcoming and respectful to everyone. In this instance, we failed to do so,' Kis Cafe said in a statement.

Lutnick: Trump wants 'good enough' EU trade offer — but what that means is unclear

Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick said Sunday that the European Union should agree to open its markets for U.S. exports to convince President Donald Trump to lower "reciprocal" tariffs on the 27-member bloc. Lutnick's comments suggest that Trump is open to a deal with the EU, but reiterated that the president still believes there's roughly a 50-50 chance that one can ultimately be reached. "The question is, do they offer President Trump a good enough deal that is worth it for him to step off of the 30% tariffs that he set," Lutnick said on Fox News. The commerce secretary's comments still raise questions about what a "good enough" deal with the United States' largest trading partner would look like at a pivotal time for trade negotiations. Trump is set to hold trade talks with the president of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, days before the Aug. 1 deadline for Trump's tariffs to take effect. Ahead of the pivotal trade deadline, Trump on Friday said that "we have a 50-50 chance, maybe less than that, but a 50-50 chance of making a deal with the EU." He said that sticking points remained "with maybe 20 different things," raising questions about whether the two leaders could move closer to a framework for a deal on Sunday. As Trump has threatened to impose 30% tariffs on the EU, the bloc has weighed countermeasures, such as using its "Anti-Coercion Instrument," a move that has been seen as the trading bloc's "trade bazooka." Such a move could hinder U.S. vendors' participation in the EU market.
