RTA database to be integrated with TGICCC for automating challan generation
Hyderabad: With an aim to enhance real-time data accessibility for traffic enforcement, the Road Transport Authority (RTA) database will be integrated with the Telangana Integrated Command and Control Centre (TGICCC) system.
This integration will enable the automatic retrieval and display of crucial vehicle-related details, such as Pollution Under Control (PUC) certificate validity, insurance status, and registration information, directly within the existing TGICCC system at the time of challan generation.
On Wednesday, a significant coordination meeting was held at the Telangana Integrated Command and Control Centre (TGICCC). It was convened by VB Kamalasan Reddy, Director, TGICCC, with Surendra Mohan, Transport Commissioner. The primary objective of the discussions was to integrate the RTA database with the TGICCC system.
This real-time data synchronisation is expected to streamline enforcement workflows, significantly reduce manual verification efforts, and ensure that all challans are issued based on up-to-date and authenticated information from the RTA database. The Commissioner, Transport, assured the deputation of a dedicated team to facilitate the implementation of this proposed automated challan system.
Further discussions at the meeting focused on the effective enforcement of key features under the Integrated Traffic Management System (ITMS). These included the Automatic Number Plate Recognition (ANPR) System, Public Addressing System (PAS), and Variable Message Display Boards (VMBs).
A review of the types and technical specifications, including video analytics capabilities, of the cameras currently utilised by TGICCC was also conducted.
The meeting concluded with a decisive action plan – the deputation of a dedicated technical team. This team will be tasked with assessing the feasibility of integrating the RTA system with the existing infrastructure of the TGICCC. Their evaluation will encompass system compatibility, data exchange protocols, and all necessary technical requirements to ensure a seamless and effective integration. The meeting saw the participation of Joint Transport Commissioners, Shiva Lingaiah, and Chandra Shekhar Goud along with other RTA Officials and technology experts.

The letter addressed to the transport commissioner states that on June 18, 2025, the ride-hailing mobile app Rapido was charging Rs 100.9 per km. "This kind of daylight robbery is unpardonable and strict action should be taken," the letter states. Reddy cited ride-hailing apps as the reason for exorbitant fares being charged. "A majority of auto drivers have attached their vehicles with ride-hailing apps. These apps, instead of following fare rules of the govt, are charging higher auto fares and other fees," he said, adding: "Enforcement staff will identify irregularities and take action. No auto drivers should collect more fare from passenger." On the trending hashtag, the minister said, "We've acted against bike-taxi operations as per the high court order. "When customers street hail an auto, the driver should charge the fare as fixed by the regional transport authority. Ride-hailing apps can charge a 10% service tax in addition to the fares fixed by RTA. Other fees and charges on customers are illegal. The digital tip just to book an auto ranges from Rs 10 to Rs 100. If a customer agrees to pay a lesser amount of tip, then a message pops up suggesting more tip to get an auto booked. Urban mobility expert Satya Arikutharam said, "It is basically unethical to force a passenger to pay a certain amount of tip while booking an auto. Usually, a customer pays the tip voluntarily after the delivery of the service; this is the custom everybody is accustomed to. What is happening here in the name of innovation is that aggregators are trying to become cheeky and creative. When I spoke to the drivers, they were unaware that aggregators are asking for the tip in their name. Union minister Pralhad Joshi has referred the case of advancing tipping to central consumer protection authority (CCPA) for investigation." He added aggregators not complying with the high court orders on charging fares for mobile-app-based services is a matter of concern.

CNG cars get relief from latest Delhi govt action against old petrol and diesels
Starting July 1st, end-of-life diesel and petrol cars will be denied fuel at petrol pumps, impounded on spot, and sent for scrapping. Check Offers The Delhi government is enforcing a strict ban on refuelling and operating End-of-Life (EoL) vehicles, which will mark one of its biggest moves to tackle air pollution in the capital city. Starting July 1, 2025, diesel cars older than 10 years and petrol cars older than 15 years will be denied fuel at all fuel pumps in Delhi and subject to immediate seizure. The government has additionally stated that CNG cars older than 15 years are currently excluded from this ban and will not be denied fuel. These vehicles will be identified using Automatic Number Plate Recognition (ANPR) cameras at the fuel pumps and will be impounded on the spot. Once seized, EoL diesel and petrol cars will be towed to a scrapping facility, said Niharika Rai, Delhi Transport Commissioner. Violators can, however, pay a fine and submit an affidavit in order to retrieve their vehicles. The new rules are to be enforced by joint teams of the Delhi Traffic Police, the transport department, and municipal bodies, stationed at pumps fitted with ANPR cameras. How do ANPR cameras work? In a joint press conference on Friday, the Commission for Air Quality Management (CAQM) said that these vehicles will be identified using Automatic Number Plate Recognition (ANPR) cameras installed at fuel pumps across the city. As a car enters the pump, the system captures the number plate and scans the VAHAN portal for registration details, fuel type and age. If the car gets flagged as an EoL vehicle, the fuel operator at the pump will receive an alert to deny service. These ANPR cameras are currently installed at 498 fuelling stations across Delhi, including 116 CNG pumps. While EoL CNG cars are exempt from this ban and will not be denied service, their PUC checks will still be conducted.
