‘Flip phone summer': Gen Z vows to resurrect low-tech — before their ‘brains turn to mush'
Hanging up on the addictive call of the smartphone, tweens, teens and 20-somethings are, instead, going retro, ditching their digital devices for 2000s-era flip phones.
'Flip phone summer,' declared Makayla Aubrey, posing with her throwback artifact in a trending clip. 'Life will be so simple.'

It's an ease that comes with less time on screens.
The Zs, youngsters under age 27, have recently begun rehabbing their high-tech fixations with the help of low-tech tools.
It's a generational effort towards disconnecting from the World Wide Web, and reconnecting with the real world in oldfangled ways.
4 Young adults online claim their lives are becoming consumed by their smartphones.

Forgoing iPhone photoshoots, Gen Zers are virally all in favor of snapping pics on vintage digital and disposable cameras, insisting that 'a camera from 2007 gives off a certain vibe that something like an iPhone can't produce.'
The whippersnappers are, too, preferring cassette tapes and vinyl records over music streaming platforms, and Walkman headphones over ultramodern Bluetooth earbuds.
4 Dumbphones, such as flip phone and Blackberrys, offer users a break from the incessant buzz of today's buzzy iPhones and Androids.

Their newfound fascination with Y2K-style horns, however, started with the BlackBerry.
Nicknaming the once in-demand devices 'dumbphones,' owing to their unique keyboards and limited capabilities, Zoomers have been zooming to sites like Facebook Marketplace and eBay, purchasing BlackBerrys to supplant their more sophisticated cellulars.
Now, as flip phones rise from the ashes as the hot months' hottest commodity, Gen Zs are crediting the vintage mobiles with restoring their grip on reality.

'It's an unplugged summer,' Meni, who admittedly spent 13 hours staring at screens each day, announced in the caption of a TikTok clip.
'I swear that my brain is just mush,' she said, blaming her smartphone, its alluring apps and constant notifications, for the regression.
'I no longer live my life,' continued the brunette. 'I just watch other people live theirs, and feel s—ty about mine.'
Meni went on to laud her early aughts flip phone, along with an old-timey e-book reader, praising the resurrected gadgets for saving her from sure destruction.
'I love the freedom.'

Prince William took Princess Charlotte to watch the UEFA Women's EURO 2025 Final in Basel, Switzerland, on July 27, 2025. Kensington Palace and Crystal Pix/Why It Matters William is patron of the Football Association, English soccer's governing body, and has a long history of supporting both the England men's and women's teams. However, he usually takes Prince George rather than Charlotte, who is a regular at the Wimbledon tennis championship. This appears to be the first time William has taken Charlotte and not George to a soccer match, marking a milestone in their relationship. What to Know The TikTok video was posted with the message: "Princess Charlotte cheering on the lionesses tonight for the euro women's finalll 🥺🫶🏻." The clip began by showing some of Charlotte's messages of support in past finals, including in a black-and-white polka dot dress for the 2022 final of the Euro, which England won against Germany. The second clip, in a white stripy t-shirt, is from her message of support ahead of the 2023 Women's World Cup Final, which England lost to Spain. The edit then showed a series of photos from the Euro final on Sunday, which showed Charlotte put her head in her hands during a tense moment as well as some bonding moments with William. There are also pictures in the video of Charlotte meeting Princess Leonor, 19, and Infanta Sofia, 18, both of Spain. Elsewhere, Prince William posted a video that also showed him standing with his arm around Charlotte's shoulders as they watched the England team celebrating their win. This was the first time Charlotte traveled overseas to watch soccer and only her second live game, after she previously watched Aston Villa, William's favorite team, play Norwich in 2019. What People Are Saying William and Charlotte posted a joint message on X congratulating the England team: "What a game! @Lionesses, you are the champions of Europe and we couldn't be prouder of the whole team. Enjoy this moment @England. W & Charlotte." King Charles III posted a message of congratulations on X: "For more years than I care to remember, England fans have sung that famous chant 'football's coming home.' Why Chris Hughes's compliment about JoJo Siwa's hairline made her burst into tears
JoJo Siwa just experienced an emotional revelation thanks to a sweet compliment from her boyfriend, Chris Hughes. In a clip shared across her social media profiles on 24th July4 the 'Karma' singer burst into tears as Chris told her she had a 'really good hairline.' The comment struck a chord with the former child star, as she revealed the feature used to be the 'number one thing' she was once bullied for in the public eye. 'I'm drying my hair right now, and he goes, 'You have a really good hairline.' That's the number one thing I was bullied for as a child,' JoJo said in the video as she wiped away her tears. The Love Island alum then reassured her and doubled down on his compliment, as he hugged her, saying, 'I love you. You have a really good hairline, it's got so much hair.' Despite popular belief that her signature high ponytail caused a bald spot and a receding hairline, the reality TV personality clarified that a 'stress rash' from her Dance Moms days had actually formed on her head in 2022. 'No, it's actually not from the ponytails, because if it was from my ponytails — considering it went on this side — it would be this,' she said in a TikTok clip at the time. 'When I was little, I had a really bad stress rash right here on Dance Moms, and I would pick at it all day long.' JoJo added, 'I damaged every single hair follicle that has ever been right there.' Three years later, JoJo reflected on her vulnerable moment with Chris. Alongside her emotional post, she wrote, 'He had no idea of the 2017-2020 hairline memes that I'm not affected by on the daily anymore, but him saying this out of thin air literally finished healing a part of me.' 'It's almost like I had a band aid over it for the last 8 years and just was leaving it there scared to look under it to see if it's healed,' she continued. 'He removed it being like why do u have this on before I could even explain what it was. Lucky lucky girl I am. Don't even think I realise how lucky sometimes.'

Justin Timberlake performs onstage during the 5th Lollapalooza Paris Festival on July 20, 2025 in Paris, France. Lyvans Boolaky/WireImage Timberlake was arrested in June 2024 for driving while intoxicated (DWI) in Sag Harbor, New York. In September, he pleaded guilty to a noncriminal driving while impaired traffic violation and was fined and given community service. What To Know During recent appearances on the European leg of the tour, including stops in Romania and Ireland, the 10-time Grammy-winning singer is seen only singing parts of his songs in fan-captured footage. Some fans have also complained that he was arriving on stage late and amid the backlash there has been a wave of viral memes. Multiple clips of Timberlake performing the song from the Trolls soundtrack, Can't Stop The Feeling have gone viral. In one video, from a concert in Transylvania, Romania, Timberlake is shown performing with his hood up, partly singing the song and pointing his mic out to the crowd so that they could sing along. He then does the same thing for a number of other songs, failing to sing the whole songs himself. That video, which has the text overlay "Go girl give us nothing," has been viewed over 4 million times. Another video of him performing similarly at a concert in Dublin has been viewed over 18 million times. One TikTok, from the creator @90skid4lyfe, which has the text overlay "Imagine paying $500 for this type of energy at a Justin Timberlake concert in 2025," has been viewed over 20 million times. This a reference to something that Timberlake allegedly muttered when he was arrested last year. An anonymous source told Page Six at the time that when Timberlake was arrested, he mumbled: "This is going to ruin the tour."
