Marcos orders all gov't offices to raise awareness on PH as maritime, archipelagic nation
Marcos issued Memorandum Circular No. 87, stating the need to harmonize, integrate, and synchronize efforts among government agencies and instrumentalities, and to foster inter-agency cooperation and collaboration in advancing maritime and archipelagic awareness, towards sustainable development, security, and protection of the country's maritime domain and heritage.
The document stated that the National Maritime Council (NMC) must lead in the formulation and implementation of year-round programs and activities to promote awareness of the Philippines as a Maritime and Archipelagic Nation.
'All national government agencies and instrumentalities, including government-owned or -controlled corporations, are hereby directed, and all local government units and the private sector are hereby encouraged, to: (a) actively support and promote the conduct of relevant programs, campaigns, and initiatives that raise awareness of the Philippines as a Maritime and Archipelagic Nation; and (b) render full support and cooperation in the implementation of activities in observance of the annual MANA Mo celebration every September,' it read.
Meanwhile, the Presidential Communications Office (PCO) was directed to implement appropriate communication strategies and information dissemination measures to inform, educate, and engage the general public in supporting the programs and activities that promote awareness of the Philippines as a Maritime and Archipelagic Nation. — RF, GMA Integrated News

First Lady Liza Marcos visits Bahay Kalinga in Saudi
First Lady Louise 'Liza' Araneta-Marcos visited the Bahay Kalinga temporary accommodations in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia over the weekend. As part of her working visit there, the First Lady met with distressed overseas Filipino workers (OFWs), mothers, and children, delivering the message that they were coming home. Her visit marked the first time a Philippine First Lady visited Bahay Kalinga, which is a temporary accommodation facility for OFWs awaiting repatriation in Saudi Arabia. During the visit, the First Lady listened to the stories of hardship, quiet strength, and hope of the OFWs. As directed by President Ferdinand 'Bongbong' Marcos Jr., the Department of Migrant Workers (DMW), Overseas Workers Welfare Administration (OWWA), and the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) facilitated the safe repatriation of 43 distressed OFWs and eight minor dependents, including those with medical needs. Each repatriate received financial and reintegration assistance — ?50,000 from DMW, ?10,000 from OWWA plus Balik Pinas, Balik Hanapbuhay aid, ?10,000 from DSWD, and ?60,000 from the Office of the President — along with travel luggage and essentials from the First Lady. The OWWA also provided transportation and temporary accommodation support for the OFWs who are returning to Visayas and Mindanao. Meanwhile, the First Lady also visited the Bagong Bayani ng Mundo Serbisyo Caravan, where she met OFWs availing themselves of services from frontline agencies. It was the first time a wide array of government agencies — including DMW, OWWA, PhilHealth, SSS, Pag-IBIG, DTI, Landbank, DSWD, PAO, and PSA — came together in one caravan to bring services to OFWs in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.—LDF, GMA Integrated News

House preps for SONA 2025 ‘90% to 95% done' even amid weather

'We are at 90% to 95% done with the preparations for the SONA, and it is still ongoing even amid the inclement weather. The SONA will push through, as we have prepared for, on July 28,' Abante said in a press conference. Asked if a possible weather-related postponement is on the table, she replied, 'We are yet to talk about any postponement of the physical gathering for the SONA.' Likewise, Abante said that the House is expecting to welcome around 1,500 guests this year, or similar to last year's number of attendees. 'Last year was one of the most attended SONAs, if not the most attended, with around 1,500 guests. We expect this year to have more or less the same as last year's figures,' Abante said. Further, Abante said that while the police and the security forces are already all systems go for the SONA next Monday, there is no specific threat that would warrant a heightened alert. In a separate announcement, House Secretary General Reginald Velasco said the House has prepared three viewing rooms in Batasang Pambansa complex for more guests, apart from the plenary hall where the President will deliver his SONA: the Daniel Romualdez Hall for 290 guests; the Ramon Mitra Room for 70; and the Jose de Venecia Hall for 80. — BM, GMA Integrated News

The President is set to meet with US President Donald Trump at the White House. He is also scheduled to visit the Pentagon for a meeting with Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth and Secretary of State Marco Rubio. Philippine Ambassador to the United States Jose Manuel Romualdez said Marcos and Trump are set to discuss defense and security. 'Essentially it's really the reaffirmation of all these agreements that we have with the United States specifically surrounding the Mutual Defense Treaty. So, it will be more on discussions on how we can continue to cooperate with the United States, our major ally.' Romualdez said. The West Philippine Sea situation is also expected to be discussed in the President's meetings here. 'At the same time, I think President Marcos would like to see how we can work with the United States and other countries that have the same mindset as far as the West Philippine Sea is concerned. So, it will be on those general subjects of discussion,' Romualdez added. Marcos will also be meeting with business leaders. 'Generally he'll be talking to semiconductor industry which is very important for us. One of our biggest industries that we're having economic ties with the United States. I think the President of the Semiconductor Association will be meeting with the President," the ambassador said. "And then we have other business leaders particularly those who have already invested in the Philippines or planning to expand their investments in the healthcare,' Romualdez said, adding that groups interested in developing the Luzon Economic Corridor will likewise attend the meeting. Marcos and Trump are also expected to tackle the 20% tariff on Philippine goods entering the US with the Philippines, hoping to arrive at a trade agreement beneficial to both countries. Romualdez also told the media covering the President's visit that the controversial immigration policy of President Trump is not on the agenda.
