Al-Azhar Grand Imam, Iraqi National Wisdom Movement leader Discuss Ways to Enhance Islamic Unity
Dr. Ahmed Al-Tayeb, Grand Imam of Al-Azhar and Chairman of the Muslim Council of Elders, welcomed Ammar Al-Hakim, Head of the Iraqi National Wisdom Movement, to discuss strategies for bolstering Islamic unity among all components of the Muslim Ummah.
Al-Tayeb stressed that unity is the sole pathway to revitalizing our Arab and Muslim nations. Consequently, the Intra-Islamic Dialogue Conference was launched in the Kingdom of Bahrain to harmonize the perspectives of Muslim scholars.
He noted that the Ummah is currently grappling with a difficult situation that presents a substantial challenge, particularly emphasizing the profound distress experienced by Arabs and Muslims due to the extended conflict in Gaza, which has now persisted for over sixteen months.
The Grand Imam further declared that the only resolution lies in uniting Muslims under a common cause, emphasizing that the time for division and discord has passed.
He expressed profound surprise at the paradox of division without cause, saying, "It is profoundly astonishing that we find reasons to divide when there are none, while others find unity despite having no common ground. We must fiercely protect our unity, for the Muslim Ummah possesses shared values that can serve as a solid foundation for unifying our voices and standing as one." His Eminence prayed for God to bless Muslim countries with peace and security.
During his reception of Ammar Al-Hakim, Head of the Iraqi National Wisdom Movement, Dr. Ahmed Al-Tayeb, Grand Imam of Al-Azhar and Chairman of the Muslim Council of Elders, highlighted the robust connections between Al-Azhar, the Council, and Iraq.
He observed that such visits yield significant benefits and mirror the activities undertaken during conferences like the recent "Intra-Islamic Dialogue Conference," which emphasized discussions and calls for unity. He reiterated that these efforts aim to positively influence the lives of Muslims and deepen the bonds of Islamic fraternity.
Ammar Al-Hakim expressed his gratitude and respect for the roles played by Al-Azhar and the Muslim Council of Elders, particularly regarding the Palestinian issue, commenting, "We consistently follow your esteemed statements and regard Al-Azhar as a beacon of moderation and balance, renowned for its advocacy on behalf of Muslim issues; this has always been our understanding of it. The Iraqi government and its religious leadership have maintained a unified stance on the Palestinian ordeal from its outset seventy years ago to the present. We value Egypt's firm opposition to the displacement of Palestinians, which has been clear and valiant, as well as the profound Arab and Islamic solidarity."
Al-Hakim also briefed the Grand Imam on the latest developments in Iraq, stating that the country is making rapid and steady strides toward stability and advancement.
He proclaimed, "Thank God, we are experiencing ongoing recovery and stability across all fronts, notably in the political and security realms. Iraq has become a bustling workshop of reconstruction and development, and we are racing against time to ensure Iraq reaches its deserved prominence and respect. The diverse Iraqi populace eagerly anticipates your visit, valuing your significant Islamic stature. They deeply respect and follow your bold stances."

Israel bombs Huthis in Yemen after rebels attack commercial ship for first time in months
Israel has carried out its first strikes against Huthi targets in Yemen since the Israel-Iran ceasefire, attacking ports and a power plant around midnight local time Sunday night into Monday morning. The strikes come after at least three Huthi ballistic missiles were launched at Israel, according to the Israel Defense Forces (IDF), including one missile that was intercepted Saturday. The Iran-backed Huthis also claimed responsibility for an attack on the bulk carrier 'Magic Seas' in the Red Sea on Sunday, the first on commercial shipping in the region by the rebels this year. Israel struck the ports of Hodeida, Ras Isa, Salif and the Ras Kanatib power plant along the Red Sea. The IDF also hit the Galaxy Leader, a cargo ship seized by the Huthis in November 2023. 'Huthi forces installed a radar system on the ship and have been using it to track vessels in the international maritime arena to facilitate further terrorist activities,' the IDF said in a statement following the strikes. A short time before the wave of attacks, the IDF's Arabic language spokesman, Avichay Adraee, issued an evacuation warning for the ports and the power station. Defense Minister Israel Katz said the strikes were part of the newly named Operation 'Black Flag.' In a statement on social media, Katz said, 'The Huthis will continue to pay a heavy price for their actions' and promised more attacks would follow if the Huthis kept launching drones and ballistic missiles at Israel. The Huthi military confirmed the strikes but said, 'Yemeni air defenses effectively confronted the Israeli aggression,' using, 'a massive barrage of locally manufactured surface-to-air missiles,' in a short statement on early Monday morning. There are no immediate reports of casualties from the strikes. Huthi political bureau member Mohammed Al Farah said targeting Yemeni ports, power stations, and other 'civilian facilities is an attempt to harm civilians and has no connection to any military activity,' according to the Houthi-run Al-Masirah TV. Since Israel's war with Hamas in Gaza started in October 2023, the country has come under fire from missiles and rockets from Hezbollah in Lebanon and the Huthis in Yemen, who claim to strike Israel in solidarity with the Palestinians. On Sunday, the Houthis attacked the 'Magic Seas' ship, claiming that the its owner had used Israeli ports. The rebels said they had struck the vessel with unmanned boats, missiles and drones, and it had now sunk. They have warned that they will target shipping that uses ports in Israel, which they describe as 'occupied Palestine.' The vessel's operator – Stem Shipping – told Reuters that the 'Magic Seas' had made a port call to Israel in the past, but the latest transit of the region appeared low-risk as it had nothing to do with Israel. The 'Magic Seas' crew of 19 left the boat on Sunday and were being taken by another ship to Djibouti. The United Arab Emirates foreign ministry said an Emirati operation rescued everyone aboard the ship, in close coordination with organizations like the United Kingdom Maritime Trade Operations (UKMTO). A vessel responded to a distress call from the 'Magic Seas' after it came under attack and sustained 'damage' to its structure, causing its crew to abandon ship under 'difficult maritime conditions' the ministry said. In May, the Huthi group – which controls much of northern and central Yemen – agreed to halt attacks on US warships in the Red Sea after more than a month of airstrikes by US forces on its strongholds and missile infrastructure. But it did not pledge to end attacks on other shipping with alleged connections to Israel and has continued to fire ballistic missiles at Israel in support of the Palestinian population in Gaza. This story has been updated with additional developments.

Radical Islamists, the biggest threat to Islam and its followers
The greatest threats to most nations are that of external enemies. The Islamic nation, however, sees it biggest enemy come from within. The radical culture that has come to dominate Islamic thought has divided Muslim societies into disparate, warring, and mutually antagonistic groups and sects. In times of peace, these groups serve as the scapegoat for dictatorial rulers. The ruler uses the existence of these groups as a justification to close off democratic avenues and postpone the idea of power transfer, under the guise of protecting his nation from them. This is despite the fact that these groups tend to operate under the ruler's consent, serving as his best excuse – both domestically and internationally – to remain in power indefinitely. He suggests to both internal and external audiences that the alternative to his rule is these extremist, backward, and violent groups, thereby forcing them to accept the status quo. On another front, we have seen these groups responsible for the failure of Arab revolutions, as happened in Libya, Syria, and Yemen. However, Egypt and Tunisia's revolutions succeeded because the people rejected these groups. For instance, had the Syrian people fully fought as one, as citizens united against their ruler, that ruler would not have remained in power. Instead, the people are divided into sects and groups: there are Sunnis, Alawites, Druze, Christians, and Kurds. Furthermore, Islamist groups have been justified to spread the cause for Israel's brutal occupation, as they have divided the Palestinian people in how they can confront their occupier. We seethe likes of Hamas, Fatah, Islamic Jihad, Al-Quds Brigades, Al-Nasser Salah al-Din Brigades, and many other factions, instead of unity under one national banner regardless of religion. There should be no difference between a Palestinian Sunni, Shiite, Druze, or Christian Muslim, or others. Why don't we learn from others? The Ukrainian nation is resisting the Russian occupation with one heart, united fully. We don't find independent Ukrainian groups separate from the leadership saying, 'We are the Christian group' or 'Christian Jihad' or anything of that sort. For this, the world respected them and stood by them. Meanwhile, we ask ourselves: Why doesn't the world stand by the Palestinian people? The answer is because we haven't presented a unified image, with agreed on goals and principles, to the world. Instead, the world only sees hostility between Palestinian factions and sects – the time when Hamas once fought Fatah members in Gaza isn't a distant memory. If something similar happened among the Ukrainian people resisting their occupier, the world would have stop supporting the Ukrainian people. In other words, if we respect ourselves, the world would respect us. When will our people understand this? This is what gave an American the opportunity to say on a TV channel, 'We support Israel in protecting its security by killing the commander of Islamic Jihad's northern region, Tayseer al-Ajroudi.' The presenter interrupted him, stating that Israel attacked peaceful people in their homes. The American replied, 'And why didn't Israel do that to Fatah members?' justifying it by saying Israel is targeting terrorists. Therefore, we argue that unifying the Palestinian people under one national banner, without color or sectarianism, is essential for the protection of all Palestinians and has become an urgent necessity. Otherwise, the conflict will persist, and we will witness this painful, recurring scene of innocent lives lost due to a failure to listen to reason. Radical groups must understand they have erred; historical experience has constantly proven this. Without unity, the world will not stand with us, nor will Arab or Islamic nations support radical groups. Islamic governments, like other nations, now fear radical groups that might turn against them at any time, declare them infidels, and carry out terrorist operations against them, as Hamas did to Egypt. Thus, we must realize that the disunity and division caused by radical extremist Islamic groups will lead us to lose our cause, as has happened repeatedly in the past. Israeli Media Reports Progress in Indirect Talks Between Hamas, Tel Aviv in Doha
Ahmed Emam Israeli media have reported progress in the ongoing indirect negotiations between delegations from Hamas and Tel Aviv, currently taking place in Doha, according to Al-Qahera News. Details of the reported progress remain scarce, and no official statements have been released by either party involved in the talks. However, sources suggest that the discussions are focused on reaching a ceasefire agreement and potential arrangements related to humanitarian aid and prisoner exchanges. The negotiations come amid heightened tensions and continued hostilities in Gaza, where weeks of conflict have resulted in significant casualties and destruction. Regional and international mediators, including Qatar, have been working intensively to broker a truce between the two sides. Observers note that while previous rounds of talks have faltered, any signs of movement in the dialogue could pave the way for easing the humanitarian crisis in Gaza and reducing the risk of further escalation.
