🎥 Liverpool new boy lifts the lid on his bizarre pre-season moment
Liverpool have taken the summer transfer market by storm in the wake of capturing Premier League honours in 2024/25, with many fans and pundits expecting the Reds to top the table once again in 2025/26. Arne Slot has watched the club brass open the cheque book in impressive fashion in recent weeks, with the Anfield side adding Florian Wirtz, Hugo Ekitike, Jeremie Frimpong, Ármin Pécsi, and Milos Kerkez to the senior ranks on the red half of Merseyside. Kerkez, 21, has already endeared himself to supporters as he settles to live with the champions since arriving from Bournemouth in a £40m deal, and has impressed in training as well as during the club's 3-1 pre-season win over Preston on 13 July. Speaking with the club's media, Kerkez jokingly expressed his desire to fight for the shirt and what it means to play for the English giants when quizzed on his bizarre attempt at a tackle against Preston North End. With many fans anticipating the possibility of the Hungarian international usurping the starting left-back role from Andy Robertson, current evidence suggests that he may not be too far off from doing just that. 📸 Matt McNulty - 2025 Getty Images

First image of Christian Gonzalez facing Stefon Diggs at Patriots camp
The New England Patriots showed off the first image of All-Pro cornerback Christian Gonzalez lining up against four-time Pro Bowl wide receiver Stefon Diggs in a social media post on Thursday. Gonzalez admitted earlier in the week that he was excited to match up against Diggs in practice. Iron sharpens iron, as the saying goes. Gonzalez is on the rise as one of the best cornerbacks in the NFL, and Diggs is looking to climb back into the elite tier of wide receivers, following an ACL injury last October. Before the injury, Diggs was coming off six straight 1,000-yard receiving seasons. There's hope that he can get back to that same level in New England. One way for Diggs to test himself is frequent head-to-head matchups against one of the top corners in the game. Gonzalez recently made ESPN's top-10 cornerbacks list, which polled votes from executives, coaches and NFL scouts around the league. The former Oregon standout landed at No. 6 in the rankings with one NFL assistant comparing him to the No. 1 player on the list, Denver Broncos cornerback Patrick Surtain II. "I think Gonzo is the next great one," a veteran NFL assistant said, via ESPN's Jeremy Fowler. "Skills, patience, length. He's the closest thing to Pat [Surtain II]. Smooth, big athlete, travels a lot, can matchup against the best guy." Follow Patriots Wire on Twitter and Facebook. On this day: Celtic sign Larsson
On 25 July 1997 Celtic signed striker Henrik Larsson from Dutch side Feyenoord with little knowledge of just how monumental an impact the Swede would have. Larsson followed manager Wim Jansen to Glasgow as Celtic were preparing try to stop Rangers from winning a 10th successive title. And the Sweden striker helped his side do just that. Despite not getting off to the best start - including scoring an own goal in his first European outing - Larsson went on to score 19 goals in his debut season in Glasgow and inspire Celtic to their first league title in a decade. Larsson would go on to make over 300 appearances in the hoops, scoring 242 goals - including 15 against Rangers. He was a driving force in Celtic's run to the Uefa Cup final in 2003, two years after helping them to a domestic treble, and won four league titles, two League Cups and two Scottish Cups before joining Barcelona. When that departure finally came in 2004, it was clear Larsson had cemented himself as a Celtic legend.
