Shell LiveWire celebrates five innovative enterprises in Peninsular Malaysia
KUALA LUMPUR: In a pursuit to empower innovation and entrepreneurship, Shell awarded five enterprises as state winners of Shell LiveWire Malaysia at the Peninsular Malaysia challenge at Wisma Shell in Cyberjaya.
This marks the fourth year of Shell's ongoing mission to support and elevate local business talent. After competing against over 60 participants in this year's Peninsular Malaysia edition of the programme, Earnest Grower Sdn Bhd, Lorry System Sdn Bhd, Mensilin Green Energy Sdn Bhd, Midwest Composites Sdn Bhd and Rebooz Technology Sdn Bhd emerged as the top five winners. Their journey began with an intensive bootcamp designed to enhance their entrepreneurial capabilities.
From there, 10 promising finalists were shortlisted for the final pitching round, where they delivered compelling business plans and demonstrated strong potential for innovation and growth. Following a rigorous evaluation process, five enterprises that truly stood out were selected as this year's champions.
'Shell LiveWire is more than just a programme, it's a journey that inspires aspiring entrepreneurs to bring their ideas to life,' said Shell business operations (Kuala Lumpur) general manager Syed Hussain Taha.
'Having witnessed the passion and resilience of our local talents, I truly believe in the impact this initiative can make.
'It empowers individuals to create lasting businesses that not only support their own growth but also uplift communities and generate meaningful employment. I personally encourage all budding entrepreneurs to take part in this programme, which offers the guidance, tools and support needed to turn dreams into reality.'
Each of the five winning enterprises received a RM10,000 startup grant from Shell, along with a year-long business coaching programme to help refine their strategies and scale their ventures.
In addition, the winners also gain access to the global LiveWire network — an international community of entrepreneurs — where they can exchange ideas, share experiences and potentially be selected for the prestigious Shell Global Top Ten Innovators Awards.
The judges for Shell LiveWire Malaysia 2025 Peninsular Malaysia state finals were Cyberview Sdn Bhd Ecosystem Hub head and Futurise Sdn Bhd acting chief executive officer Shafinaz Salim; New Straits Times Business Times news editor Muhammed Ahmad Hamdan and Shell Malaysia Global Alliance manager Theswinder Kaur.
Shell LiveWire is the flagship enterprise development programme of Shell. The programme strengthens local economies across the globe by promoting entrepreneurship and developing entrepreneurs.
This programme, which kick started in Sabah in 2015, in Sarawak in 2016 and in Peninsular Malaysia in 2022, aims to inspire young entrepreneurs to innovate and produce real business solutions that meet today's socio-economic needs.

Pay cut, extra trips caused strike among Singapore-bound bus drivers
JOHOR BARU: Some 100 shuttle bus drivers serving the Johor Baru–Singapore route resumed duty this morning after the company company agreed to reinstate their previous salary structure, ending a one-day strike that caused major disruptions for thousands of cross-border commuters. The strike was sparked by a revised pay scheme which saw drivers losing between RM800 and RM900 in monthly income. They were also required to make an additional daily trip to Singapore. Previously, they are required to make four trips back and forth Johor Baru-Singapore. Driver Atoi, 35, said his monthly salary had previously averaged RM2,800 before the changes were implemented two months ago. "The new structure significantly reduced our earnings. We were not trying to inconvenience commuters, we just wanted our rights respected," he said. "We returned to work only after the company agreed to revert to the original pay terms." He added the discontent among Singapore-bound shuttle bus drivers were over pay cuts and additional duties has been brewing for months. "When our latest salary slips were issued a day late, it broke the camel's back, triggering yesterday's strike by some 100 drivers," Atoi said. The drivers had kept the bus doors shut while parked at the Bangunan Sultan Iskandar's bus terminal platform, where the Customs, Immigration and Quarantine complex, is housed. The New Straits Times learnt that drivers on the Causeway route usually received higher allowances than those on the Second Link, so the impact was deeply felt. "We used to earn between RM2,800 and RM2,900 a month. After the adjustment, some of us took home less than RM2,000," he said. "There were also salary deductions we do not fully understand. The system has become unfair and unclear," he said. The drivers resumed work after the bus company agreed to revert to the previous salary structure following a meeting with Johor Public Works, Transport, Infrastructure and Communication committee chairman Mohamad Fazli Mohamad Salleh. The strike began at 5am on Monday and triggered a massive congestion at Bangunan Sultan Iskandar (BSI), with some workers resorting to walking across the Causeway to reach their jobs in Singapore. Operations resumed in stages after state exco Mohamad Fazli intervened and mediated between the drivers and the company yesterday afternoon. "About half of us resumed work yesterday evening. The rest returned to work this morning," Atoi said. Anwar Ahmad, 29, a Malaysian cleaner working in Singapore, said this morning's commute went smoothly with no queues at the BSI bus platforms. "Yesterday was a nightmare. Today, everything was back to normal. Buses were on time, no delays," he said. Mohamad Fazli, who is also Bukit Pasir assemblyman, confirmed service had fully resumed and expressed confidence that the matter would be resolved in good faith.

MyKiosk 2.0 achieves 86% occupancy, boosts trader incomes
KUALA LUMPUR: A total of 3,518 out of 4,054 units under the MyKiosk 2.0 initiative have been taken up as of July, representing over 86 per cent occupancy, said Housing and Local Government Minister Nga Kor Ming. Under the earlier MyKiosk 1.0 initiative, 2,926 out of 3,189 units are occupied, achieving a 91.75 per cent filling rate. Nga emphasised that the upgraded MyKiosk 2.0 features improved design and sustainability without raising rental costs. 'This initiative has successfully transformed the livelihoods of 7,243 hawkers and petty traders nationwide,' he said during a Dewan Rakyat session. The minister cited examples of traders, including an 'ayam gunting' seller in Melaka earning RM30,000 monthly and a soymilk vendor doubling income to RM18,000. Nga added that the ministry uses a 'traffic light' system to evaluate local authorities' management of MyKiosk units. Full marks are awarded for full occupancy, ensuring accountability. The All-New Proton X50 has captured the attention of Malaysians nationwide, with 5,000 bookings recorded within just 10 days of opening its order books on 5 July. The overwhelming response follows a highly successful nationwide prelaunch tour that brought the new SUV to major city attractions, where eager onlookers turned up in droves for a glimpse of Proton's latest B-segment contender. According to Proton, one booking for the All-New X50 is received every three minutes. This impressive rate reflects a 50 per cent take-up of the early bird promotion, which offers a RM1,000 cash rebate, a special edition Touch 'n Go card, and an exclusive GEMPAK! Deal. These incentives are reserved for the first 10,000 customers, with only half of that number still available. The full pricing structure of the All-New X50 will be disclosed during its official launch event, scheduled for the evening of 24 July.
