KUALA LUMPUR: A total of 3,518 out of 4,054 units under the MyKiosk 2.0 initiative have been taken up as of July, representing over 86 per cent occupancy, said Housing and Local Government Minister Nga Kor Ming.
Under the earlier MyKiosk 1.0 initiative, 2,926 out of 3,189 units are occupied, achieving a 91.75 per cent filling rate.
Nga emphasised that the upgraded MyKiosk 2.0 features improved design and sustainability without raising rental costs.
'This initiative has successfully transformed the livelihoods of 7,243 hawkers and petty traders nationwide,' he said during a Dewan Rakyat session.
The minister cited examples of traders, including an 'ayam gunting' seller in Melaka earning RM30,000 monthly and a soymilk vendor doubling income to RM18,000.
Nga added that the ministry uses a 'traffic light' system to evaluate local authorities' management of MyKiosk units.
Full marks are awarded for full occupancy, ensuring accountability. Plans for MyKiosk 3.0 are also under review to further support small businesses. - Bernama

Trade Missions Abroad Bear Results, Two Foreign Companies Begin Investment In Malaysia -- Tengku Zafrul

BUSINESS KUALA LUMPUR, July 25 (Bernama) -- Two foreign investment projects announced during the government's trade and investment missions abroad have now begun implementation, thus refuting claims that no results were obtained from Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim's official visit abroad. Investment, Trade and Industry Minister Tengku Datuk Seri Zafrul Abdul Aziz said that Gul Technologies, a company announced during the trade and investment mission to China in 2024, is currently building its factory in Kulim, Kedah, with an investment of RM350 million for Phase 1. He said that the project is expected to create 350 job opportunities for the local people. 'What is interesting is that this company is currently collaborating with Kulim Advanced Technologies Sdn Bhd, a subsidiary of Kulim Hi-Tech Park Corporation Sdn Bhd, which is responsible for training young talents. 'Through this collaboration, the company will employ 100 local technicians who will be sent to China for training,' said Tengku Zafrul in a post on X today. Meanwhile, another company, EDA, which was announced during the trade and investment mission to Italy in 2024, has started an investment worth RM100 million in Jasin, Melaka. 'EDA also has 150 vendors among local companies. This means that EDA is not only creating jobs at their facilities, but also supporting Malaysian workers in 150 local companies,' he said. These two projects are among the 2,198 manufacturing projects that have been approved throughout the MADANI Government's administration from 2023 to the first quarter of 2025. Tengku Zafrul said that out of that total, 1,849 projects, or 84.2 per cent, have been implemented as at July 2025.

Doulos Hope Draws 25,000 Visitors, Boosts Labuan's Economy

LABUAN, July 25 (Bernama) -- The arrival of Doulos Hope, the floating bookstore ship, has not only captivated the imagination of the Labuan community but also brought significant cultural and economic benefits, said Minister in the Prime Minister's Department (Federal Territories), Datuk Seri Dr Zaliha Mustafa. Speaking during her visit to the vessel, Dr Zaliha said the presence of Doulos Hope has created an alternative avenue of engagement for the local community, allowing them not only to experience the floating book fair but also to step onboard and witness the unique life and mission of a ship crewed by more than 100 volunteers from over 30 countries. 'This is not just a bookstore on water, it is a bridge between cultures…the people of Labuan are enjoying the rare opportunity to meet and interact with individuals from around the world, enriching their perspectives,' she said. The Minister noted that the ship has attracted a continuous stream of visitors ranging from children and students to senior citizens and tour groups. 'I witnessed for myself the non-stop flow of people boarding the ship, all excited to explore what Doulos Hope offers…it is heartening to see the sense of curiosity and unity this vessel has brought to our shores,' she said. Dr Zaliha also highlighted the economic spillover sparked by the visit, as the ship's international crew and volunteers regularly patronise local eateries, cafes, and convenience stores, bringing supplies back to the ship and contributing to small business income. Doulos Hope director Nidhin Sebastian said the response from the public has been overwhelming, with nearly 25,000 visitors recorded since the ship's arrival in Labuan. 'It has been a joy to welcome so many aboard…we are grateful for the warmth and hospitality shown by the people of Labuan,' he said. The ship will remain docked in Labuan until July 28, continuing its mission to bring knowledge, help, and hope through books and intercultural engagement.
