Past Pixel problem resurfaces again creating chaos in users' lives
Starting a few days ago, Pixel users returned to Reddit to complain that the alarms they set on their Pixel handsets are not going off. One Redditor even included a screenshot showing that his phone failed to ring alarms he set for the same day at 7:30 am and 8:00 am. Under the Missed Alarm notification he received for both botched alarms, it says that "Alarm did not fire due to an unknown reason."
Another Pixel user with alarm issues contacted Google. He was told that because the Alphabet unit couldn't replicate the problem, they are not actively looking for a fix. This isn't an issue that Pixel users can choose to forget about. For example, one Pixel owner wrote to say that a failed alarm "Happened to me once on a work trip, and of course [on] the day I'm leaving." He missed the plane and "Had to schedule a different flight."

One Pixel user whose alarm failed had an interesting experience. He posted, "Was late to work by 2 hours because of this. Woke up with the sun out and confused as I normally get to work just as the sun rises. Then jolted up as I realized my Pixel alarm didn't go off." Funnily enough, another Pixel user has the opposite problem. "Bruh, I get alarms that I don't even set at 4:30 in the morning. Maybe your alarms are going off in my phone LOL." Of course, there are plenty of third-party alarms that can be downloaded from the Play Store. There are some that try to get you up by having you solve a math problem to turn off the alarm. One such app that was recommended by a Pixel user is Alarm Clock Xtreme & Timer (tap here to install from the Play Store). However, according to some of the recent reviews of the app in the Play Store, the app has started having glitches. Perhaps a simple, basic approach is best. The Simple Alarm Clock can be installed from the Play Store and has been downloaded over 10 million times by Android users. Or you might consider buying a cheap alarm clock from Amazon to hold you over until Google finally admits that there is a problem and fixes it.

One UI 8.5 quietly confirmed for Galaxy S26 Ultra
Samsung's upcoming flagship, the Galaxy S26 Ultra, is rumored to come with One UI 8.5. A few days ago, the first firmware for the phone was spotted on Samsung's server, suggesting that the phone's software is now being developed. It was then suspected that the firmware was based on One UI 8 .5, but there was no confirmation. Now, the folks at SamMobile have managed to get their hands on the first firmware for the expected beast to confirm it's based on One UI 8.5. The firmware version is carrying number S948USQU0AYG8. Its build info mentions it's based on Android 16 and One UI 8 .5. This is the first time One UI 8 .5 was mentioned officially, confirming its existence. Earlier, reputable leaker IceUniverse also mentioned the Galaxy S26 Ultra may come with One UI 8 .5. Last week, we heard that Samsung will start introducing major One UI versions with the foldables from the Galaxy Z series, which is sometime in the middle of each year. Now, Galaxy S series phones are going to come with One UI x.5, which includes major new features and improvements. Proof that Galaxy S26 Ultra may come with One UI 8.5. | Image Credit - SamMobile Google has switched to a new development model for Android for faster release of software. It's now releasing major new Android versions in the middle of the year. So Samsung is aiming with this change to match Google's software update release timeline with One UI releases. The Galaxy S26 Ultra is said to come with some great upgrades as well, not just some new features in One UI 8 .5. The phone is said to bring improvements to its display, possibly faster charging (although rumors are contradictory on this one), and maybe a new look. The S26 series is expected to come out in early 2026. They'll face the iPhone 17 series (coming this fall) in the battle of the best flagship phone. I think that this is an exciting change for Galaxy users. One UI 8 .5 sounds like it could bring some nice improvements, and it's great to see Samsung syncing up with Google's Android updates. That could mean faster, more polished software for everyone. The fact that Samsung is already testing the firmware shows it's working hard to get things ready early. If the Galaxy S26 Ultra delivers on the upgrades we've heard about, plus the new software, it could be a really strong competitor in 2026.

A new Google Photos feature could make photo editing feel like texting a friend
If you are using an Android phone – or better yet, a Pixel phone or Galaxy phone – you are probably already swimming in AI features thanks to Google's full-on Gemini takeover. The company has been stuffing its AI into just about every product it owns and naturally, Google Photos hasn't been left out. Google Photos is hugely popular on both Android and iOS and it already offers some cool generative AI tools like Magic Editor, Magic Eraser and Reimagine. But now, it looks like there's another one on the way – and this one sounds even more hands-off. The new feature might be called 'Help me edit' and it's exactly what it sounds like: instead of poking through menus, you just type what kind of edit you want, and Gemini takes care of the rest. You can drop in whatever instructions you want – like tweaking colors or changing the mood of a photo – and Gemini will do the magic for you. You'll also get suggestions from Google Photos itself if you're not sure where to start. With "Help me edit" changing the color of your car is super easy. | Image credit – Telegram user Zach Allen Where Reimagine encourages short prompts with nouns and adjectives, 'Help me edit' feels more like writing to a smart assistant. You can be more detailed and conversational with your instructions, which makes the whole experience feel a lot more natural – almost like editing in the Gemini app itself, not just Google Photos. We still don't know when exactly Google will roll out this feature or if the tech giant is just testing it, but we will make sure to let you know once there are more details. Honestly, it is no surprise that Google is pushing even more AI into Photos. This is clearly the direction we are heading in – whether we like it or not. And sure, it's super convenient. But let's be real: it's getting harder and harder to tell what is real and what has been AI-tweaked to perfection. I mean, swapping out a cloudy sky for a perfect blue one in your personal memories? Not sure why you'd want to, but hey – with such tools, it's now just a prompt away.

Mint Mobile customers say it feels like they don't even have service
Mint Mobile's killer prices have always been a major selling point, especially when a promo like the current 50% off for new customers kicks in. A full year of half-off service? Hard to ignore. But while that kind of deal might bring in fresh faces fast, it seems like the network struggles to keep them happy – because lately, things haven't exactly been smooth sailing. Over the past couple of weeks, users have been flooding Reddit with complaints about Mint's network performance. We are talking dropped calls, unusable data and texts not going through. And this isn't just isolated to one city – these issues are being reported all across the country. – Confident-Ad-6978, Reddit, July 2025 For a lot of these users, the problems seemed to hit out of nowhere – and all around the same time. –Bulgogi_Yogi, Reddit, July 2025 Yeah, one common thread? Many say it all started around two weeks ago. And while some have tried to troubleshoot with customer service, the fixes don't always stick. –Brown_Noise_76, Reddit, July 2025 And even long-term users are saying this is the worst it's ever been. –Advanced-Level-5686, Reddit, July 2025 – Sad_Researcher_3344, Reddit, July 2025 Of course, not everyone is having issues – but there are enough long-time users speaking up that it doesn't seem like just a fluke. – z06tim, Reddit, July 2025 – DetrashTheTriangle, Reddit, July 2025 So what could be going on? There could be a few reasons, but the most likely one starts with the fact that Mint Mobile is an MVNO running on T-Mobile 's network. And when the T-Mobile network gets congested – like during peak times or in busy areas – priority might go to T-Mobile 's own postpaid customers. MVNOs like Mint? They might get the leftovers. Last year, T-Mobile bought Mint Mobile's parent company, Ka'ena Corporation. | Video credit – Mint Mobile On top of that, the timing is interesting. These user reports all started around the same time, which could mean something changed on the network. T-Mobile has been prepping its Starlink-powered satellite-to-phone service and that launch didn't go entirely smoothly. A major outage happened shortly after and it was reportedly due to an internal software failure. While that is a separate system, it does suggest there may be broader network-level changes happening in the background. If T-Mobile rolled out a new software update, changed traffic management setting, or tweaked how MVNOs get prioritized, that could easily explain the sudden headaches Mint users are seeing. And then there is that massive 50% off promo Mint is running right now. If it brought in a wave of new users, even with more network capacity purchased, the added traffic could be pushing the system to its limits – making deprioritization even worse. All of this is just a guess, of course. The real issue could lie somewhere else entirely. We've reached out to both Mint Mobile and T-Mobile for comment and will update this story once we hear back.
