Tollywood Dalit producer seeks SC panel help to save his land in Tekkali
Joint Action Committee of Scheduled Castes and Tribes of Srikakulam district co-convener Kantha Venu, Ambedkar India Mission State vice president Taekwondo Srinu, and representatives of various Dalit organisations briefed Mr. Ramachander about the injustice faced by Mr. Prakash. They claimed that many Dalit entrepreneurs in Srikakulam were being harassed by influential individuals who were attempting to grab lands belonging to those from marginalised communities.
In the memorandum, Mr. Prakash and others alleged that Tekkali Revenue Divisional Officer M. Krishna Murthy was encouraging a few Tekkali residents including Lakkoji Gangarao, L. Keshava Rao, L. Sankara Rao and Y. Srinivasa Rao to create legal problems and project the site as a disputed property although it was bought by Mr. Prakash in 2023.
According to them, Mr. Prakash obtained all valid documents from members and legal heirs of the Jagadhatri Displaced Goldsmiths RCC Spun Pipes Cooperative Society in 2023. The land comes under the survey numbers of 520/1 and 520/3 of the Tekkali mandal.
Mr. Prakash said: 'The government is encouraging SC entrepreneurs across the State. Unfortunately, Tekkali revenue officials are causing mental agony despite the then Tekkali sub-collector and other officials having issued sale deed, adangal and conversion approvals after payment of the statutory fees to the government two years ago. No Dalit industrialist will come forward to set up industries if fake petitions are encouraged by the revenue department.'
Mr. Ramachander assured the delegation that the Commission would verify the veracity of the documents and investigate the issue in a few days.

Kin of Dalit man who died following aircraft crash in Bathinda seek govt compensation
The family of a Dalit man in Bathinda who died after an aircraft allegedly crashed and exploded during the recent India-Pakistan conflict submitted a formal request last week seeking compensation from the government. Paramjit Kaur, the widow of Raj Kumar Singh, submitted the application to the Naib Tehsildar of Goniana in Bathinda, seeking financial assistance around two months after her husband succumbed to injuries sustained following the crash on May 11. Govind Kumar, 32, a farm labourer from Haryana, had died at the crash site following an explosion. He was among those who had gathered immediately after the incident. According to Kaur, her husband Singh, a daily wage labourer and resident of Kothe Natha Singh Wale in Mehma Sawai, was injured on May 7 when a military aircraft crashed in the fields near Akalia Kalan village. He was taken to AIIMS, Bathinda, for treatment, but died later. Kaur wrote that the family depends entirely on manual labour for income and has no alternative source of livelihood following Singh's death. She also stated that her children, Jagmeet Singh, 15, and Gagandeep Kaur, 14, are still in school and have no means of support. She requested government compensation and assistance for the family's welfare and the education of the children. A General Diary Detail police report of May 11 corroborates the incident. According to a statement recorded in the report by Singh's younger brother Virval, the deceased had stayed overnight at the fields where he worked and was among the villagers who rushed to assist after the aircraft crashed and caught fire. He was reportedly helping others extinguish the flames when the aircraft exploded, injuring several people, including Singh and his son Jagmeet. The injured were initially taken to the government hospital in Goniana Mandi, and later referred to Bathinda, as per the report. Due to the severity of his head injuries, Singh was transferred to AIIMS, where he died. The Diary Detail further notes that the explosion occurred accidentally. No foul play has been reported, and the family has declined to pursue legal action against anyone involved. Based on a statement from the deceased's brother, officers had initiated proceedings under Section 194 (investigating death) of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS). Govind Kumar, the first victim of the explosion, is survived by his wife Mamta, daughter Pari, and son Prashant. He was the youngest of four siblings and had lost both parents as a teenager. According to family members, Kumar had arrived in Bathinda a few days prior to the incident with his cousin and friends. The group worked as daily wagers, loading wheat bags at a local mandi, and stayed in a temporary shelter built in a field. Kumar's family has also reportedly approached the Bathinda district administration seeking financial compensation.

Betting apps case: Rana Daggubati seeks alternate date to appear before ED
Hyderabad: Actor Rana Daggubati has sought an alternate date to appear before the Enforcement Directorate in the case relating to alleged promotion of illegal betting apps. The Tollywood actor was issued notice to appear on Wednesday (July 23), but he communicated to the Central agency that he would not be able to appear as he was busy with a film shoot. The actor is reported to be busy with the film shoot in Tamil Nadu. The central agency is likely to issue a fresh notice to the actor with an alternate date for his appearance. The ED has summoned actors Rana Daggubati, Prakash Raj, Vijay Deverakonda, and Manchu Lakshmi in the case. Prakash Raj has been summoned on July 30. The ED has asked Vijaya Deverakonda to appear on August 6 while Manchu Lakshmi has been directed to appear on August 13. The four actors were among 29 celebrities booked by the ED on July 10 for allegedly endorsing illegal betting apps. The central agency filed an ECIR against 29 actors, influencers, and YouTubers for allegedly promoting illegal betting platforms, in violation of the Public Gambling Act, 1867. The probe, under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act, is based on five FIRs filed in Telangana and Andhra Pradesh. Film actors Vijay Deverakonda, Rana Daggubati, Prakash Raj, Nidhi Agarwal, Pranitha Subhash and Manchu Lakshmi, and Ananya Nagella are among those who have been booked by the ED. The names of TV actors, TV hosts and social media influencers like Sreemukhi, Shyamala, Varshini Sounderajan. Vasanthi Krishnan, Shoba Shetty, Amrutha Chowdary, Nayani Pavani, Neha Pathan, Pandu, Padhmavathi, Harsha Sai and Bayya Sunny Yadav also figure in the list. Most of these celebrities were earlier booked by Hyderabad and Cyberabad Police. FIRs were registered against them at Panjagutta, Miyapur, Cyberabad, Suryapet, and Visakhapatnam police stations. The ED suspects endorsements of platforms like Junglee Rummy, A23, JeetWin, Parimatch, Lotus365, and others involved laundering of large sums through paid promotions. When some of the actors were booked by Hyderabad and Cyberabad Police, they denied wrongdoing, claiming they ended contracts over ethical concerns. In March this year, Vijay Deverakonda, Rana Daggubati, Prakash Raj and others were booked by Cyberabad Police for allegedly promoting betting apps. They, however, clarified that they are not promoting any illegal app. While Rana Daggubati and Vijay Devarakonda stated that they endorsed only legally permitted online skill-based games, Prakash Raj said he did not renew a contract to promote an app in 2017 after realising that he should not have done it.
