Sanju Samson earns four times more than MS Dhoni in IPL, here's a look at RR skipper's paycheck

New Delhi: Sanju Samson leaving Rajasthan Royals (RR) to join Chennai Super Kings (CSK) might be a possibility in time before the IPL 2026. People have been talking about Samson leaving RR and it may be true. According to a recent report CSK is very much eager to have him. There are other franchises as well, besides CSK, which are interested in buying the current RR captain as reportedly. But there is no clarification as to whether Samson himself is contemplating on quitting the franchise.
Rajasthan Royals nurtured Samson themselves and found the player in 2013. They gave him his initial IPL contract and as they say, the rest became history. His stupendous performances with RR quickly helped him into his subsequent call-up by India on the England tour to play the white-ball series the other year. He later got his international debut versus Zimbabwe in 2015.
Rajasthan Royals bought Sanju Samson back in IPL 2018 mega-auction, and he has since then been an important member of the team. Before the IPL 2025 mega-auction, RR retained Samson to secure the services of the star batter and captain at the hefty price of Rs 18 crore.
If Chennai Super Kings (CSK) intend to sign Sanju Samson, they will need to spend at least ₹18 crore or more to secure his services. Should the move happen, Samson is likely to be groomed as the long-term successor to MS Dhoni at the helm of the franchise.
Samson earns four times more than Dhoni
Sanju Samson now earns four times in the IPL compared to MS Dhoni. Dhoni has not participated in international cricket in more than five years and therefore he has been added to the category of uncapped players before the IPL 2025 mega-auction. This enabled Chennai Super Kings to have their iconic captain back at only Rs4 crores under uncapped player category.
The IPL 2022, 2023, and 2024 seasons paid the salary of 12 crores to MS Dhoni. But before IPL 2025, the India icon was ready to be retained at a price of only 4 crores. As Dhoni may play in only one or two more seasons of IPL, it seems that CSK have already started thinking about future, including a prospective long-term replacement, with Sanju Samson rising among candidates.

Shubman Gill's England Tour began during IPL: Training with Dukes in Ahmedabad

India captain Shubman Gill scored a statement double century in the ongoing second Test match against England. Batting first in Birmingham, Shubman guided India to a massive total of 587 runs with his terrific 269-run knock. Speaking after the game, Shubman revealed that he had been training for the England Test series since the Indian Premier has had a sensational start to his tour of England, hitting a century in Leeds and then following it up with a double century in Birmingham. He said that he worked on his technique at the end of the IPL 2025, but had started training with the red ball much earlier than prepare for the Test series, Shubman batted in the Ahmedabad nets against the Dukes ball, which is used in England for Test matches. The new India No. 4 revealed that it was difficult for him to shift between T20 and Test cricket and that he had to work on his mindset before coming into this tour. "It's easy to go from T20 to T20, but coming back from T20 to Tests is a bit difficult because you have been practising one way with your team and your instincts are tuned to that," Shubman Gill told the broadcaster on Day Two of the second Test match."Controlling that and repeatedly telling your mind and body to adapt is challenging. That's why I started training for Tests during the IPL itself. That's when I began preparing my mind and body," he added."I was batting nicely but getting out after scoring 30 or 40 runs. So I wanted to enjoy my batting. I was focusing too hard, so I decided to make the most of it. I started working from the IPL itself," Gill Learning on the JobShubman might have hit 30 boundaries and 3 sixes in the first innings at Edgbaston, but he revealed that runs were not coming easily at the start of his innings. Gill said he had to constantly remind himself to be patient and stay at the wicket."In the last match, I was scoring more fluently, but here it wasn't coming as easily. Still, my mindset was that if the wicket is good and I am set, no matter how long I bat, I shouldn't leave the match halfway," Shubman added that he did not want to repeat his mistakes from the first Test match, where the Indian tail collapsed in both innings, forcing India to be bundled out for far fewer runs than they should have scored."In the last match, I learnt that no matter how long you've been batting, under these conditions, there can be a collapse in the lower order at any time. So I tried to stay out there as long as I could. I wanted the bowler to get me out with a good ball, and I shouldn't make mistakes. That was my approach," Gill 269 helped India post a massive first-innings total. The visiting side declared late on Day Two and managed to pick up three crucial wickets. The side will start Day Three with a lead of 510 runs and hope to take a dominant first-innings lead at Edgbaston.- EndsTune InMust Watch

Former spot-fixing accused Ankeet Chavan appointed Mumbai U-14 head coach after ban lifted by BCCI

Ankeet Chavan. New Delhi: In a shocking decision, the Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA) Chairman has appointed Ankeet Chavan to fill the position of the head coach Under-14 team. The move has triggered much interest considering that Chavan had been involved in the 2013 spot-fixing scandal of the IPL, prompting the BCCI to hand him a life ban. Ankeet Chavan's appointment Arihant Chavan is among the three Rajasthan Royals (RR) players who were given a lifetime ban on their role in the 2013 spot-fixing scandal, an episode that cost paceman S Sreesanth his career as well. But in 2021, the BCCI cut down the ban imposed on Chavan to seven years, which allowed him to come back to the sport. This choice paved the way to his returning to competitive cricket two years prior to taking over his new coaching position. In his career, Chavan played in 18 first-class matches, 20 List A games and 13 IPL matches. Chavan remained attached to the game, and he still played club cricket with the Karnataka Sports Club in Mumbai. He brought out his commitment to the sport by passing the Level-1 coaching test. His new job, as the Under-14 coach of the MCA is the new start of his cricketing career. S Sreesanth, Ajit Chandila, and Ankeet Chavan were handed life ban by the disciplinary committee of the BCCI due to the 2013 spot-fixing scandal. All three of the players were acquitted at trial in a Delhi Court in 2015 because there was not enough evidence to prove their guilt, yet the BCCI still imposed the penalties until June 2021 when Chavan had his suspension formally reduced by two years to seven years. The MCA announced on Wednesday other coaching and selection updates with Omkar Salvi continuing as head coach of the Ranji Trophy squad. This has been four years in the making following a successful season in his direction and has also seen him get bowling coach position with Royal Challengers Bangalore. In the meantime, the former India cricketer Sandeep Patil will still remain chairman of the selection committee. In a conversation with Indian Express, Chavan considered the coaching stint as his second innings. 'This is a second innings for me, and I am eagerly looking forward to it. There is always a chance to make a comeback in life. I want to thank the Mumbai Cricket Association for putting their faith in me. Coaching has always been on my mind, and I am aware of the challenges that lie ahead. At the Under-14 level, I want to focus on developing the players' basic techniques to help them improve their game,' Chavan told Indian Express.
