on Sunday inaugurated the office of Baba Banda Singh Bahadur Lohgarh Foundation Trust built at PWD Rest House Vyaspur in Yamunanagar.
During a meeting chaired by the Union power minister with the members of Baba Banda Singh Bahadur Lohgarh Foundation Trust, detailed discussion was held on initiating the construction of the Lohgarh Memorial.
A monitoring committee and expert committee will monitor the construction process of the memorial, and the issue of organisation of cultural programmes related to Sikh heritage was also discussed. Former cabinet minister Kanwar Pal Gujjar was nominated as the chairman of the monitoring committee.
The expert committee will be responsible for identifying key historical facts and significant events related to the monument, as well as contributing to its preservation and enhancement through in-depth research.
Khattar said the trust and other sub-committees will play an important role in preserving the rich heritage of Baba Banda Singh Bahadur and developing museums, monuments, and literature on Lohgarh and Baba Banda Singh Bahadur.

During the meeting, the provision of giving income tax exemption to the person or institution donating in the name of Baba Banda Singh Bahadur Lohgarh Foundation Trust was also considered. Detailed discussions were held on the implementation of various projects under Baba Banda Singh Bahadur Lohgarh Foundation Trust and other related points.
During the meeting, Rakesh Beniwal, founder of Kisan Yuva Club, and his colleague Aman Virk handed over a cheque of Rs 11 lakh to Khattar as a donation in the name of the trust. Earlier, chancellor of Desh Bhagat University, Zora Singh, donated Rs 11 lakh to the trust. For this, the Union minister expressed his gratitude and appealed to the people to actively participate in such religious and social activities.

MUMBAI: As tensions escalate between the fishing community and the port authorities at Sassoon Dock, Shiv Sena (UBT) MP Arvind Sawant has stepped in to end the stand-off. Advocating for the Kolis, traders and others involved in the fish trade at Mumbai's largest dock, Sawant met Union minister for ports, shipping and waterways, Sarbananda Sonowal on Wednesday, and pressed for a resolution to the crisis without the fisher folk being evicted. At the heart of the crisis is a move by the MbPA to charge rent at Ready Reckoner rates, which the community says is out of their reach. Backed by a police team, the MbPA arrived at the dock on Tuesday, to evict the fisher folk but had to retreat due to fierce resistance. In a post on X on Wednesday evening, Sawant shared details of his meeting with Sonwal and Singh. He said, 'In this meeting, I conveyed the ground reality of the fishermen community regarding the unjust actions being taken on the warehouses at Sassoon Dock and other pending matters. I requested that the eviction action against poor fishermen from warehouse number 158 be stopped. The minister agreed to this request. He also assured that the decision taken on June 12, 2015, by the then Union Minister Nitin Gadkari will soon be implemented. This decision will be a great relief and bring justice to the fishing community.' HT was the first to report, on June 28 and July 8, on how the MbPA's ultimatum over rents could see the port authorities evicting the fishing community from its warehouses, which double as critical fish-processing centres before the catch goes out into the supply chain. Calling Wednesday's meeting a significant success, Sawant said he is committed to protecting the interests of those who contribute to the national economy through fish exports and trade. Koli leaders said Sawant emphasised the non-implementation of a key decision taken in 2015 under the chairmanship of then Union shipping minister, Nitin Gadkari. The decision, taken on June 12, 2015, had mandated the repossession of godowns by rightful tenants. Another key issue raised by Sawant at the meeting was the reinstatement of Godown No 158 and galas to their 'rightful sub-tenants'. Another key issue raised was the steep hike in licence fees by MbPA, which Sawant said contradicted earlier assurances made in a meeting on January 27, 2021. The enhanced fees have led to the closure of several fish auction houses. He urged the Union minister to roll the fees back to their 2001 levels, to between ₹7,000 and ₹8,000 a year. Sawant also requested that construction work on both the new and old jetties be completed by July 31, 2025, to ensure uninterrupted fish trade activities. On the issue of fish trade timings, Sawant urged that early morning trading begin only from 4:30am, as overnight operations are leading to various problems, including safety concerns.

Imphal: Union Home Minister Amit Shah has moved a statutory resolution in the Parliament seeking approval for the extension of the President's rule in Manipur for another six months. The Centre had imposed the President's rule in Manipur on February 13, three days after Chief Minister N Biren Singh resigned. It will now be extended till February 13, 2026, after Parliament's nod. The state assembly, which has a tenure till 2027, will remain under suspended animation. Manipur has been witnessing ethnic conflict between the Meitei and Kuki-Zo communities since May 2023, in which over 250 people have been killed. Officials, however, have said that there has been a significant decline in violence since the imposition of President's rule. The move by the Centre comes at a time when there has been a massive crackdown against recovering illegal weapons and the armed groups in the state. The Centre is now also focusing on the return and resettlement of the internally displaced people from both communities and aims to shut down relief camps by the end of this year. The extension of President's rule, however, has come as a setback to the Manipur unit of the BJP, which had been pushing for the reinstatement of a popular government. However, the 10 Kuki-Zo community MLAs have said that they want President's rule to continue until their core demand of a separate administration like a union territory is thoroughly discussed. The Centre is also engaged in back-channel talks with the civil society groups.

Manipur: President's rule extended for six months; effective from August 13
NEW DELHI: The President's rule in Manipur has been extended for a period of six months, effective from August 13, 2025, after a resolution introduced by Union home minister Amit Shah. In a statement, the Rajya Sabha parliamentary bulletin read: "Amit Shah, Minister of Home Affairs; and Minister of Cooperation has given a notice of the following Resolution which has been admitted:- 'That this House approves the continuance in force of the Proclamation dated the 13th February, 2025 in respect of Manipur, issued under article 356 of the Constitution by the President, for a further period of six months with effect from 13th August, 2025'.
