Chennai: Three women held, child rescued in suspected trafficking racket
CHENNAI: The Greater Chennai Police (GCP) busted a suspected child trafficking racket in Puzhal on Friday, rescuing a child and detaining three women during a covert operation triggered by a tip-off from a local resident. All three will be formally arrested after inquiry. According to police, one of the suspect Vidya (36) was nabbed after she arrived on a two-wheeler at Britannia Nagar near Kathirvedu in Puzhal with a male child, allegedly for sale. Acting on prior information, the police detained her. Based on her statement, Rathi Devi (39) and Deepa were picked up from a house in Menambedu near Ambattur. The duo is being questioned, the police said. A police source said the case surfaced after one Karthik alerted the Puzhal police, claiming a woman had approached him with an offer to sell a child for Rs 12 lakh. Under police instructions, Karthik continued to engage with the suspect, who asked Rs 10 lakh for the child's mother and Rs 2 lakh for herself, the police said. She agreed to deliver the child at a designated location, leading to her detention on Friday. The police said initial inquiries revealed that Rathi Devi, separated from her husband, had planned to sell her own child due to financial distress, allegedly with the help of Vidya and Deepa. Officers also found multiple photos of children on Vidya's phone, raising suspicions of a broader trafficking network, police said. All three women are in custody as the police are questioning them separately to verify their claims and uncover possible links to other missing children. The rescued child has been handed over to the child welfare department, the police said.

Man arrested in Kanpur for murdering woman in Kolathur
The Greater Chennai Police (GCP) have solved the murder of a 38-year-old woman in Kolathur and arrested a 36-year-old man in Kanpur for committing the crime. The police identified the arrested as Mohsin Ansari of Punjab. He was arrested by a special police team in Kanpur. On Monday, the police recovered the body of a woman, who was found dead under suspicious circumstances at a locked house in Kolathur, and launched an investigation to ascertain whether she was murdered. The police identified her as Saraswathi of Vriddhachalam. Sixteen years ago, she had married Ganeshamurthi, a Sri Lankan refugee from the Gummidipoondi camp, and the couple had two children. Recently, she and her children had been living at a rented house in Kolathur, while her husband remained in Gummidipoondi. She left her children with her husband and returned to her house in Kolathur on July 18. Following this, Ganeshamurthi could not get in touch with her and asked his friends to check on her. Meanwhile, Saraswathi's neighbours alerted the police after they noticed a stench from her house. The police broke open the door and recovered the body. It was sent to the Government Stanley Hospital for a post-mortem. A mobile phone, a two-wheeler, and a gold ornament were missing from the house, indicating that it was a murder for gain. After investigating, the police identified Mohsin as the suspect and traced him to Uttar Pradesh by analysing mobile phone signals. They nabbed him with the help of the Uttar Pradesh Police. The investigation revealed that Moshin was in a relationship with Saraswathi. Angered after learning that she was married to another man, he murdered her.

Quack running beauty clinic in Chennai booked for forgery and cheating woman of Rs 70 lakh
CHENNAI: Greater Chennai Police on Wednesday registered a case of cheating and forgery against S Jeevitha, the owner of London Beautorium - a skin and hair clinic in Anna Nagar, based on a complaint filed by Riji Nair (37). The complainant states she was cheated of Rs 70 lakh by Jeevitha, who falsely claims to be a doctor. This comes a week after TNIE published a report highlighting how Nair was made to run from pillar to post for six months by GCP and had to obtain a direction from Egmore magistrate court to register the FIR. Inspector Sumathi under the Central Crime Branch- I is investigating the complaint. Nair alleged that Jeevitha falsely claimed to be a doctor who obtained her medical degree from Philippines and convinced her to invest Rs 70 lakh in a fraudulent franchise of London Beautorium. Alleging that Jeevitha is a quack, Nair said that she fraudulently represents herself to be a doctor and has treated many patients and public. Nair has allegedly produced audio, video, and photo evidence proving Jeevitha's misconduct including illegal administering of injections, anaesthetic treatments, and training non-medical persons to perform risky procedures. Jeevitha provided certificates from 'Imperious University of USA', which were found to be fake, Nair alleged. Jeevitha convinced her to invest in a London Beautorium franchise falsely claiming that she would provide her MBBS degree for obtaining the necessary licenses, Nair alleged, adding that she invested Rs 70 lakh based on these false assurances. The skin clinic's Tirupati franchise owner had also suffered a similar fate, Nair said in the complaint.
