Aaron Boone made his way across the field to meet Jon Berti outside the visiting dugout before Saturday's game against the Cubs to present the veteran infielder with his ALCS championship ring from last season.
'It's obviously what you play for to get to and win the World Series. Unfortunately we weren't able to finish it, but it was an amazing experience,' Berti told The Post before the Yankees' 5-2 loss. 'To go through that and to be a part of a great organization like the Yankees was awesome.'
Berti was obtained from the Marlins late in spring training of 2024 following an injury to DJ LeMahieu, but he also was sidelined for much of his lone regular season in pinstripes due to a calf issue, appearing in only 25 games.
But he was back on the active roster in the postseason and even started a few games at first base during the team's October run to the World Series before he suffered another injury.
'Obviously [the regular season] was tough. The Yankees obviously traded for me because they saw a lot of value in me, and I wanted to help out as best as I could,' the 35-year-old Berti added.
Jon Berti's stolen base attempt fails as he's tagged out by Oswald Peraza during the Yankees' 5-2 loss to the Cubs on July 12, 2025.

'Unfortunately I missed a lot of time, but everything works out how it's supposed to, and it was a great experience with the guys over there and the coaches and staff.
'It obviously wasn't how I wanted it to turn out, but that's how it goes sometimes.'
Berti, who signed with the Cubs after being non-tendered in November, started three postseason games at first base for the Yanks while Anthony Rizzo was sidelined with fractured fingers.
Berti was taken off the roster for the World Series against the Dodgers due to a hip flexor suffered when he scored the go-ahead run in the ninth inning of Game 4 of the ALCS against Cleveland.
'I'll never forget clinching those games and popping [champagne] bottles with those guys,' Berti said. 'Especially against Cleveland, knowing we were going to get a chance to go to the World Series. It was awesome to be a part of it, and I appreciate getting to see Aaron to catch up.'

Cubs second baseman Nico Hoerner shows off all-around game against the White Sox

CHICAGO — Nico Hoerner delivered for the Chicago Cubs on Sunday — at the plate and in the field. He even made the most of a rare baserunning mistake. Hoerner had two hits, drove in a run and made a heady defensive play in a 5-4 win over the Chicago White Sox. The all-around performance by the second baseman helped the Cubs to a second straight victory going into a big series at Milwaukee. The 28-year-old Hoerner — a Gold Glove winner in 2023 — started an unusual double play in the third at Rate Field. The White Sox had runners on first and second with one out when Chase Meidroth popped up toward the right side of the infield. Meidroth was called out via the infield fly rule, and Hoerner let the ball drop. 'First thought was just watching the hitter,' Hoerner said. 'Looking to maybe drop the ball and get him out and then hopefully get a double play. But they called infield fly, so the batter's out. Then kind of makes it possible is having my feet on the grass. I don't really like letting it drop in the dirt. Kind of chaos after that.' Hoerner was focused on Brooks Baldwin at first when shortstop Dansby Swanson pointed to Lenyn Sosa breaking for third. Hoerner turned and threw across the diamond to Matt Shaw, who applied the tag for the inning-ending double play. 'That was a huge play,' manager Craig Counsell said. Hoerner said he's constantly going over possible scenarios in his head. 'Got a group that likes talking the game,' he said. 'So it's really satisfying to get extra outs like that.' Hoerner also hit an RBI single in the sixth and scored from first on Shaw's double. He reached on an infield single in the second on the 14th pitch of his at-bat against Sean Burke. He walked in the eighth and was picked off first by Mike Vasil, but he stayed in the rundown long enough that the Cubs got a run when White Sox third baseman Colson Montgomery was called for interference, allowing Ian Happ to score. 'It started with a mistake on my end, just getting too far off,' Hoerner said. 'Fortunately, Ian's able to kind of capitalize on just some chaos out there and turn it into something.' Chicago improved to 62-43 to remain tied with Milwaukee for first place in the NL Central. The Cubs visit the Brewers for a three-game set beginning on Monday night. Hoerner has hit safely in 14 of his last 17 games, batting .328 (21 for 64) with two triples and seven RBIs during the stretch. He is batting a team-high .289 on the season, to go along with his stellar defense. 'I'm just super grateful to have Nico as a teammate,' pitcher Ben Brown said. 'The baseball IQ out of him is, I mean it's Nico. It's just the way he is. It's just kind of like through his veins and through his blood.' ___ AP MLB:

Ben Brown and Nico Hoerner help the Cubs top the White Sox 5-4

CHICAGO — Ben Brown pitched five effective innings, Pete Crow-Armstrong drove in two runs and the Chicago Cubs topped the Chicago White Sox 5-4 on Sunday. Nico Hoerner added two hits and a key defensive play as the Cubs won the rubber game in the weekend set. The North Siders went 5-1 in the season series against the South Siders. The Cubs (62-43) remained tied with Milwaukee for first place in the NL Central. They open a three-game series against the Brewers on Monday night. Andrew Benintendi homered twice and drove in four runs for the White Sox (38-68), who finished with three errors. Brown (5-7) got his first win since June 17. The right-hander went 1-4 with an 8.10 ERA in his previous five appearances. The Cubs jumped in front in the first against Grant Taylor (0-2). Crow-Armstrong picked up a two-run double on a well-placed grounder up the third base line. The Cubs added a valuable insurance run in the eighth, opening a 5-1 lead. Ian Happ trotted home after White Sox third baseman Colson Montgomery was called for interference on a rundown. Benintendi hit a three-run drive against Ryan Brasier in the bottom half. But Daniel Palencia got four outs for his 14th save in 15 chances. The White Sox threatened in the third, putting runners on first and second with one out. But Chase Meidroth popped up and was called out via the infield fly rule. Hoerner let the ball drop, then cut down Lenyn Sosa when he attempted to take third on the play. The Cubs struck out 13 times, including four for Michael Busch in the leadoff spot. Cubs: LHP Matthew Boyd (11-3, 2.20 ERA) takes the mound in the series opener at Milwaukee. RHP Jacob Misiorowski (4-1, 2.45 ERA) goes for the Brewers. White Sox: RHP Davis Martin (2-8, 3.89 ERA) faces Phillies LHP Cristopher Sánchez (9-2, 2.40 ERA) on Monday night in the opener of a three-game series. ___ AP MLB:
