Report: Free agent WR DJ Chark visits with Bears

Miami Herald4 days ago
Free agent wide receiver DJ Chark recently visited the Chicago Bears, NFL Network reported Monday.
He spent the past three seasons with three different teams after playing his first four campaigns in Jacksonville.
Chark was a second-round pick by the Jaguars in 2018 and made the Pro Bowl with a 1,008-yard season in 2019.
He caught just four passes for 31 yards and one touchdown in seven games with the Los Angeles Chargers in 2024.
With NFL teams reporting for training camp this week, Chark said he is still weighing his options.
"It depends," he said, per NFL Network. "It will have to be something that makes sense, from a family perspective and also from an X's and O's perspective. Getting up and going to any team just for the excitement -- I'll always love the game, but at this point, putting myself and my family in a great position is what's ideal for me."
Chark has 216 catches for 3,100 yards and 24 TDs in 76 games (51 starts) for the Jaguars (2018-21), Detroit Lions (2022), Carolina Panthers (2023) and Chargers.

Falcons agree to terms with WR DJ Chark

The Falcons are signing veteran wide receiver DJ Chark, NFL Media reports. Chark visited Atlanta on Friday. He visited with the Bears last month but Chicago did not sign Chark to a deal. Chark, 28, spent last season with the Chargers but appeared in only seven games because of a hip injury. He finished the season with four catches for 31 yards and a touchdown, playing a total of 105 offensive snaps. In 2023, Chark caught 35 passes for 525 yards with five touchdowns for the Panthers. The Jaguars made Chark a second-round pick in 2018, and he eclipsed 1,000 yards in 2019 for them to earn Pro Bowl honors. In 76 games, with 51 starts, Chark has 216 career receptions for 3,100 yards with 24 touchdowns.

Falcons to sign veteran WR DJ Chark, per report

DJ Chark expected to sign with Falcons, per NFL Network report The Atlanta Falcons are expected to sign veteran wide receiver DJ Chark Jr., according to a report from Mike Garafolo of the NFL Network. The former second-round pick spent last season with the Los Angeles Chargers, appearing in seven games and recording four catches for 31 receiving yards and one touchdown. The Falcons have yet to provide an update on wide receiver Darnell Mooney, who exited Thursday's practice after suffering an injury. This signing could be an indication that Mooney will miss time. Chark, 28, has recorded 216 catches for 3,100 receiving yards and 24 touchdowns since entering the league in 2018. The former LSU Tiger had a career season in 2019 when he topped 1,000 receiving yards and made the Pro Bowl as a member of the Jacksonville Jaguars. After spending his first four NFL seasons in Jacksonville, Chark spent one season with the Detroit Lions in 2022. In 2023, Chark signed with the Carolina Panthers, recording 525 receiving yards and five touchdowns in 15 games. If the Falcons are to be without Mooney for an extended period of time, Chark isn't a bad replacement. Atlanta also released veteran defensive back Kevin King and placed three players on the non-football injury list on Thursday. Check out the team's updated 90-man training camp roster following these recent transactions.

Dolphins' Jaelan Phillips calls teammate 'a future Defensive Player of the Year candidate'

Jaelan Phillips has only played a handful of games with Chop Robinson, but he's seen enough of the Miami Dolphins' 2024 first-round pick to feel like he's a star in the making. "I truly feel like Chop is going to be one of the best players in the league very soon," Phillips told reporters Friday. "I think he already is supremely talented, but the more comfortable he gets, the more confident he gets, and everything he's doing, I think he's a future Defensive Player of the Year candidate." Robinson, 22, was forced into a significant role as a rookie with Bradley Chubb unavailable all year due to a knee injury suffered late in the 2023 season. The Dolphins became even more reliant on the first-year pass rusher when Phillips suffered a season-ending knee injury of his own in Week 4. But after a slow start with zero sacks in September and October, Robinson emerged as one of the NFL's most productive pass rushers in the back half of the 2024 season. Between Weeks 10 and 18, Robinson was credited with 42 quarterback pressures by PFF, second most over that stretch behind only the Dallas Cowboys' four-time Pro Bowl rusher Micah Parsons. With Chubb and Phillips both healthy and in training camp, the Dolphins are hopeful that finally having the trio at Anthony Weaver's disposal will result in chaos in opposing backfields. "I think you'll see things open up a little more, so it will be exciting," Phillips told reporters in June. "[Robinson's] improvement from last year to this year is like so noticeable, it's insane. Especially if you really know the nitty gritty of it, so I'm really proud of Chop, really excited to see how he's going to keep progressing. Obviously, Bradley (Chubb) looks great, I feel really good. It's going to be fun.' The Dolphins finished the 2024 season with 35 sacks, sixth fewest in the NFL.
