Maharashtra govt tables supplementary demands of ₹57,509 cr in assembly
Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar, who is also the state finance and planning minister, presented these demands on the first day of the three-week monsoon session.
Supplementary demands are additional funds sought by the government over budgetary allocations.
The government has primarily allocated these funds for infrastructure projects such as roads, metro rail, and irrigation schemes, as well as for planning and execution of the upcoming Simhastha Kumbh Mela.
The demands include ₹1,600 crore for the Mahatma Jyotirao Phule Health Scheme, ₹1,500 crore for the Sanjay Gandhi Niradhar (Destitute) Grant Scheme, scholarships for students from the backward classes, and overall development of socially and economically weaker sections.
The largest allocation ₹11,042.76 crore has been earmarked for grants recommended by the 15th Finance Commission, and it has also made a provision of ₹6,952 crore for public health.
Additionally, ₹3,228.38 crore has been provisioned for refunds related to stamp duty surcharge to metro projects, municipal corporations, municipal councils, and Zilla Parishads.
The government has allocated ₹1,000 cr for the planning and execution of the Simhastha Kumbh Mela.
Of the total supplementary demands, ₹19,183.85 crore was for mandatory expenditures, ₹34,661.34 crore for planned schemes, and ₹3,664.52 crore for centrally-sponsored schemes.
Though the gross demand amounts to ₹57,509.71 crore, the net financial impact on the state exchequer is ₹40,644.69 crore, Pawar said.
The government has made a provision of ₹2,182.69 crore as margin money loans to cooperative sugar factories under assistance from the National Cooperative Development Corporation (NCDC).

MUMBAI:, Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar , in Legislative Council, on Thursday said that going forward, admissions to various courses offered by institutions such as Dr Babasaheb Ambedkar Research and Training Institute (BARTI), Chhatrapati Shahu Maharaj Research, Training, and Human Development Institute (SARTHI), Mahatma Jyotiba Phule Research and Training Institute (MahaJyoti) and Anna Bhau Sathe Research and Training Institute (ARTI) will be granted solely based on merit. A uniform policy will also be implemented regarding the number of students, general scholarships, foreign scholarships, and admission procedures across these institutions. Pawar was responding to a question raised by MLCs Sanjay Khodke and Abhijit Wanjarri regarding the disbursement of rental allowance and contingency funds by SARTHI. He stated that between 2018 and 2025, around 3 lakh students benefited from government scholarships, tuition fee assistance, and other schemes across 83 courses under SARTHI. However, only 3,000 students (just 1 per cent) pursued Ph D programs, for which Rs 280 crore was spent. This implies an average of Rs 30 lakh per student over five years, a figure that warrants serious consideration. Pawar also clarified, admissions will be limited to courses that have proven employment potential, ensuring public resources are directed towards skill-based and career-oriented programs. A committee headed by the Chief Secretary was earlier appointed to review and recommend a common framework regarding student intake, admissions, scholarships, and academic quality in BARTI, SARTHI, MahaJyoti, and ART institutions. NMC team visits twin cities to study infrastructure works
Nashik: Nashik Municipal Commissioner Manisha Khatri and senior officials from Nashik Municipal Corporation (NMC) embarked on three-day study tour of Pune and Pimpri-Chinchwad to examine infrastructure developments in both cities. They will visit Pune today. Civic officials inspected road junctions and PCMC's waste-to-energy project, PCMC-developed streets including footpaths and pedestrian-friendly facilities and evaluated strategies implemented by the PCMC administration to boost property tax revenue. The PCMC increased its property tax revenue from Rs150 crore to Rs650 crore in three years by categorising the city's taxpayers and adopting diverse tax recovery methods. Khatri and other civic officials toured the PCMC's bio CNG plant, which they plan to establish in Nashik. "We also studied the online services, e-office and various measures to increase the property tax of the civic body. We will assess whether we can enhance property tax by adopting the initiatives used by the PCMC administration," Khatri said. The PCMC has constructed a pillar-less bridge over the river, measuring 110m in length. Although the cost of constructing a pillar-less bridge is 25% higher, its longevity is greater. The commissioner stated, "We will explore whether bridges without pillars can be built on the Godavari river, even though bids have already been floated for construction of five new bridges on the Godavari river and its tributaries for the upcoming Simhastha Kumbh Mela." The NMC delegation visiting Pune and Pimpri-Chinchwad cities included additional municipal commissioner Pradeep Chaudhari, city engineer Sanjay Agrawal and executive engineer Ravindra Bagul, among others.

MR-10 ROB to become 8 lanes for easing traffic ahead of Simhastha 2028
Indore: In a continuous effort to streamline urban traffic, Indore is set to undertake a significant infrastructure upgrade with the expansion of the MR-10 railway over bridge (ROB). This crucial project, estimated at Rs 48 crore, will transform the existing four-lane bridge into an eight-lane structure, with four new lanes extending towards Kumedi. Once completed, the wider ROB is expected to provide substantial relief from traffic congestion for thousands of commuters travelling towards Ujjain, as well as those using the Super Corridor, Ring Road, Vijay Nagar and Metro route. Indore Development Authority (IDA) invited tenders for the construction of the additional four lanes for the MR-10 ROB. Eight agencies expressed interest in the project, and their bids are currently under evaluation. The final agency is expected to be selected within a week, with construction commencing thereafter. This ROB serves as a vital link connecting Indore's rapidly developing Super Corridor and Ujjain Road areas, ensuring seamless traffic flow alongside the Metro line. "Tenders for the ROB's construction have been received," stated the authority CEO RP Ahirwar. He added that necessary no-objection certificates (NOCs) from the railways and other departments were already secured to prevent any construction delays. The expanded ROB will have a total length of 713.5 metre and a width of 45 metre. Additionally, the culvert on the Vijay Nagar side will also be widened. Currently, over 15,000 vehicles traverse the existing four-lane ROB daily, often leading to queues and congestion. The addition of four new lanes aims to resolve this issue. The MR-10 ROB was originally constructed approximately two decades ago. But, over time, the rapid development of colonies along the Super Corridor and Ujjain Road, coupled with a significant increase in vehicle traffic to Ujjain following the development of Shree Mahakal Lok, rendered the current four-lane bridge inadequate. The expansion is therefore essential to accommodate the increased traffic volume. Senior officials said, the expanded ROB will play a pivotal role during 2028 Simhastha Kumbh Mela in Ujjain. Millions of pilgrims and vehicles are expected to travel through MR-10 to reach Ujjain. The eight-lane bridge will ensure smoother and faster vehicular movement, leading to reduced travel times and fuel savings. This infrastructure enhancement complements other completed projects, such as the flyover at Luvkush square, further bolstering Indore's preparedness for the massive religious gathering.
