Kepa sends message to David Raya after completing transfer from Chelsea

Metroa day ago
Kepa Arrizabalaga has warned his new teammate David Raya that he intends to compete with him for the position of Arsenal No.1 after completing his transfer from Chelsea.
The 30-year-old Spaniard spent last season on loan at Bournemouth, making 35 appearances in all competitions.
Arsenal had brought in Neto from the Cherries as back-up to Raya, but the Brazilian has returned to the Cherries following the end of his own season-long loan.
Kepa, who spent the 2023/24 campaign at Real Madrid, has signed a three-year deal after Arsenal agreed to pay a fee of £5million.
'I'm really, really happy to be here, really excited and looking forward to what is coming,' Kepa told Arsenal's website.

'The ambition that is shown in this club, when I talk with Mikel (Arteta) and (goalkeeping coach) Inaki (Cana), how much they show me their desire to win, I think we are so close to winning and, hopefully, altogether, we can achieve it.'
Kepa became the world's most expensive goalkeeper when he joined Chelsea from Athletic Bilbao in a £71m deal during the summer of 2018, going on to win the Europa League and Champions League with the Blues as well as the 2023 UEFA Nations League with Spain.
'THANK YOU, CHELSEA. 'After seven unforgettable years, the time has come to close a very special chapter in my life.
Chelsea was my home, my family, and the place where I grew both as a footballer and as a person.
'I arrived full of dreams and I leave with unforgettable memories: titles like the Champions League, Europa League, UEFA Super Cup, Club World Cup… but above all, moments shared with incredible people on and off the pitch.
'Thank you to the coaches, the staff, my teammates, and most of all, to you, the fans. 'Wearing this badge has been an honour and a source of pride.
'Now a new chapter begins, and I face it with the same passion and commitment as always. I leave with a heart full of gratitude. With love and respect.'
Raya, meanwhile, is firmly established as the club's first choice having cemented his status after ousting Aaron Ramsdale.
The former Brentford star has won back-to-back Golden Glove Awards and although Kepa is under no illusions as to the challenge that faces him he is ready to push Raya all the way.
He said: 'He's a great goalkeeper and we have a very good relationship. We will compete, we will train together, we will share a lot of time together.
'We will have competition, as with all the positions in the team, but with the only goal that is to win and be the best ones.' More Trending
A delighted Mikel Arteta added: 'We are really happy to have Kepa joining us. He is a player we know, having come up against him many times in recent seasons.
'He brings a wealth of experience, which his teammates will benefit from, and he has a real hunger to win.
'Kepa works hard and will elevate our levels. I know he will fit in perfectly, already knowing some of his teammates, and we are really excited about his future with us.'

Dortmund's stance on loanee Chukwuemeka revealed

Loanee Carney Chukwuemeka missed Dortmund's 2-1 win over Monterrey on Tuesday night through illness but has Chelsea's permission to extend his loan until the end of the Club World Cup. The Blues will allow the midfielder to remain with the German giants, who next face Real Madrid in New Jersey's MetLife Stadium on Saturday. However, Chukwuemeka, who moved for £20m from Aston Villa in 2022, remains surplus to requirements at Stamford Bridge and Chelsea prefer to sell, rather than loan out the 21-year-old in the longer term. Dortmund would happily keep Chukwuemeka beyond the Club World Cup but are reluctant to pay Chelsea's £40m asking price. They will wait to see if Chelsea's demand changes or whether it might be possible to re-sign Chukwuemeka on loan later in the likely means Chukwuemeka will return to Chelsea for at least a few weeks following this Club World Cup campaign.

I'm feeling really good – Sophie Ingle relishing Euros dream after knee injury

Former national team captain Ingle suffered ACL damage in a Chelsea pre-season friendly in September and has not played since. Ingle has taken a full part at Wales training in Switzerland, but it remains to be seen whether the 141-times capped midfielder will make the starting line-up for their Euros opener against the Netherlands on Saturday. Speaking before the Lucerne clash, Ingle told Sky Sports: 'I've probably got a stronger knee than before, which is the crazy thing. 'That's already hard to process in your mind. It's definitely mentally (tougher) than physically. 'Can I do it? Can I get back to the level I was at?' 'You go through all those stages, but I'm very laid back and had full confidence in my medical team. That fully helps and it's paid off now I'm here. 'A lot of the girls have said to me over the last few days they can't believe I've been out nine months and look basically the same as before. 'I'm just pushing every single day and, whatever role I'm needed, I'll be there for the team. I'm feeling really good, which is the main thing.' Ingle revealed how a Christmas card from the Football Association provided extra motivation for her to make Rhian Wilkinson's 23-strong squad in Switzerland. She said: 'The FAW sent out a Christmas card of our photo when we qualified, the whole team, and there were a few words inside. 'So I put it up on my kitchen shelf. Every time I was in the kitchen that evening I'd look up, and that was just always my focus to get back for this tournament. Hoher Kasten 🚡📍 — Wales 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁷󠁬󠁳󠁿 (@Cymru) July 2, 2025 'Once the girls qualified in December, that was then my aim, to do everything I could to be in with a chance of getting selected. 'Then, once I got selected it was such a special feeling that all that hard work and those lonely days on your own in the gym kind of paid off.' Ingle is currently without a club after her second spell at Chelsea ended in May following seven trophy-filled years in west London. A post shared by Sophie Ingle OBE (@ingle08) But the 33-year-old remains a standard-bearer for Welsh football, leading the national team 83 times between 2015 and 2024. Ingle said: 'I think us qualifying for the Euros helped my recovery, to have an aim in place. 'I always had the mentality that if I don't make it, at least I've tried and I've done everything that I can. 'They always say on average, it's nine to 12 months (to recover from an ACL injury), but it all depends on your body, how your surgery went, what actually was wrong with your knee.'
