Our betting expert has focused on today's jump meetings at Huntingdon (1.45-4.45) and Lingfield (2.05-5.05) for his three selections. Thursday's line-up is completed by a third National Hunt card at Punchestown (1.25-5.00pm) and an all-weather Flat fixture at Newcastle (4.55-8.30).

4.05 Punchestown – Sri Lanka Awaits You Handicap Hurdle (2m 7f)
Freddie Gordon's valuable 3lb claim ensures that SAN PEDRO effectively escapes having to carry top wait and a 3lb penalty for winning last time out at Plumpton 10 days ago.
The eight-year-old produced a brave run that day in a conditional jockeys' race over 3m 1f, and while the jockeys Gordon faces today will have more quality, the same can't be said for their mounts, with only one of San Pedro's nine rivals having finished better than fifth last time out.
There has been a bit of support for the Olly Murphy-trained Tropical Speed, but that should just ensure some value in today's nap.
1.45 Huntingdon – Advertise Your Business At Huntingdon Maiden Hurdle (2m)
When CARLTON was trained by Tracy Waggott, he made his hurdles debut at Market Rasen in August, but finished out of the frame after jumping to his right throughout the race.
The five-year-old son of Frankel has since moved to the yard of James Owen, who has transformed the horse on the Flat, Carlton recording a four-timer and rising 20lb in the weights.
Similar improvement today plus Huntingdon's right-handed track should ensure that he makes the frame here.
2.35 Lingfield – Sri Lanka, The Wonder Of Asia Handicap Chase (2m 7½f)
SUMMER IN MILAN steps up in trip on his chasing debut after just two runs at handicap hurdle level, both at Fontwell, where he came eighth over 2m 1½f in December and third over 2m 5½f last month.
Trainer Chris Gordon has an excellent record at Lingfield and it looks like today's selection may have been laid out for this test of stamina over the bigger obstacles.
Having placed in an Irish point-to-point race that was won by the current favourite for the County Hurdle at Cheltenham, it is very likely that Summer In Milan will relish today's conditions.

Chepstow to launch three-day Welsh racing festival

Chepstow Racecourse is to host a new three-day jump racing festival which organisers hope will offer an "intimate" alternative to the Cheltenham Welsh Racing Festival, which will run from Friday, 10 October to Sunday, 12 October, will launch this year's British National Hunt organisers hope the event will build on the track's traditional jump season opener, expanding it with a third day of racing and a broader entertainment programme."It will be amazing and full of fantastic, really competitive racing," said Chepstow's general manager Luke Admans."There will be loads of prize money up for grabs and loads of entertainment off the track as well." While Cheltenham remains the benchmark for jump racing festivals, Admans believes Chepstow can offer something different - particularly in the wake of falling attendances at Cheltenham."It will very much be a bit more intimate than Cheltenham," Admans said."We really want to go down that sort of affordable festival route and it's a great opportunity for the new racegoer or a seasoned racegoer to come and enjoy top-class, competitive racing."Chepstow is expecting more than 10,000 racegoers across the three days. The jump season starts here The Chepstow festival will feature graded jump racing throughout the weekend, including the Grade 2 Persian War Novices' Hurdle on Friday, and a Sunday card headlined by the Welsh Champion Hurdle, which returns to Chepstow from Ffos Las."Chepstow has always had the jump season opener meeting and is really well known within the industry as kick-starting the jump season across the UK," Admans said. "We've taken the third day of the festival, which has come from Ffos Las - which is the Welsh Champion Hurdle day - and we've formed a new Welsh Racing Festival across the three days."Admans expects the meeting to attract top yards and promising horses, with many trainers using the fixture to test runners before the key winter months."We know a lot of the stables target this meeting as the start of the jump season," he said. "They bring their horses here and really test them out to see what they've got and how competitive they are, and where their targets are going to be for the rest of the year."

Estrange on course for Yorkshire Oaks, with Paris on the horizon

The David O'Meara-trained four-year-old has been beaten only once in her five-race career to date and created a huge impression when winning the Group Three Lester Piggott Fillies' Stakes at Haydock in a canter in May. In fact so impressive was she that day, an entry made by owners Cheveley Park Stud for the Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe did not look too fanciful. She returned to the Merseyside track for a more hard-fought success over Scenic in the Group Two Lancashire Oaks, and now a test of her credentials at the highest level awaits on the Knavesmire in the Yorkshire Oaks on August 21. 'She's come out of the Lancashire Oaks great,' O'Meara said of his star filly. 'She hardly had a race really, it was a two-and-a-half-furlong dash that day really which turned into a sprint. She's fine, she's in good order. Estrange is a best-priced 25-1 for Paris, although as short as 12-1 in a place, and O'Meara added: 'York (is the next port of call) and if she carries on going well then the Arc de Triomphe is the ultimate goal.'

Ross O'Sullivan eyeing more Galway Festival gains

The stable sent out three winners for the showpiece fixture 12 months ago, all of whom return to the track this time around alongside further hopes both on the Flat and under the National Hunt code. Donnie Devito, who took the Guinness Novice Hurdle last year, turns his hand to chasing and will take on stablemate and fellow Galway winner Talk In the Park over fences. 'The three winners from last year will go there, unfortunately two of them are taking each other on,' said O'Sullivan. 'Donnie Devito and Talk In The Park will both go for the beginners' chase on Friday.' Volantis bids to retain his title in the Guinness Galway Tribes Handicap Hurdle, whereas smart bumper horse turned hurdler Strong Link makes his Galway debut and the Listed winner Chally Chute aims to go one better than last year's effort in the Guinness Handicap. O'Sullivan said: 'Volantis, last year's winner of the good handicap which now runs on the Saturday will go back for that. He's had a prep run on the Flat like last year and much the same preparation as last year. 'Strong Link has won a bumper and maiden hurdle, he goes for the novice hurdle that Donnie Devito won last year. 'The young pretender is Strong Link, he hasn't put a foot wrong and has good winter form in bumpers. 'He's transferred that to winning in the summer and because he's up and coming he'd be the one that we're really looking forward to. 'Last year Chally Chute was second in the good Flat handicap over a mile and a half, the Guinness Handicap. He goes back for the same race again having won a Listed race.'
