A shocking new report has put the National Football League in the spotlight. Details have come out that suggest the league may have quietly pushed teams to avoid giving full guaranteed contracts to players.
This information, revealed by respected NFL analyst Mike Florio, has raised many questions about how much control the league has over team spending.
Mike Florio says NFL encouraged owners to act together
Mike Florio, the founder of Pro Football Talk, shared on Tuesday that the NFL may have tried to quietly influence all 32 team owners during a private meeting in March 2022. This meeting reportedly took place right after Cleveland Browns quarterback Deshaun Watson signed a fully guaranteed $230 million contract.
The deal made headlines as one of the biggest in NFL history.

According to Florio, an arbitration ruling from Christopher Droney confirmed that the league's management group, with support from Commissioner Roger Goodell, encouraged teams to stop offering fully guaranteed deals to veteran players. These discussions happened during the annual NFL owners' meeting in 2022, held in Florida.
Florio quoted Droney saying,
'There is little question that the NFL Management Council, with the blessing of the Commissioner, encouraged the 32 NFL Clubs to reduce guarantees in veterans' contracts at the March 2022 annual owners' meeting.'

However, the ruling and full details were never shared with the public or the NFL Players Association, according to Florio. The insider claimed the league and players union decided not to release the documents or the decision. This left many people wondering why such important information was kept quiet.
NFL arbitration ruling confirms collusion talks but clears teams of illegal action in 2024 case
Although the ruling was made in private, the league won the case in 2024. Florio explained that during a follow-up hearing, evidence showed that teams had not followed the league's advice.
Because there was no proof that teams acted on the idea, the arbitrator sided with the league. Still, the suggestion alone raised concerns.
The main issue now is that a top league official may have pushed a plan that could hurt players' chances of getting fair pay. Pablo Torre, another well-known reporter, also helped bring the story forward. He confirmed parts of the report with his own sources.

Although the league took no action on the proposal, the study has increased pressure on the NFL to be more transparent about its decision-making process. Given money, power, and trust on the line, this narrative is probably far from over.

51-49 Senate vote: Three Republicans who said 'no' to Trump's 'Big Beautiful' bill

Senator Rand Paul of Kentucky(left), US President Donald Trump (middle), Senator Thom Tillis of North Carolina (right) Three Republican senators—Thom Tillis of North Carolina, Rand Paul of Kentucky, and Ron Johnson of Wisconsin—broke ranks on Saturday late-night senate session as the chamber voted 51–49 to advance President Donald Trump's sweeping One Big Beautiful Bill Act. Tillis and Paul opposed the motion outright, while Johnson initially voted no before switching after negotiations. Tillis cited concerns over deep Medicaid cuts, warning of adverse impacts on healthcare access in his state. Paul objected to a provision raising the national debt ceiling by USD 5 trillion. Johnson changed his vote following closed-door talks that addressed his deficit concerns. The nearly 940-page bill seeks to extend USD 3.8 trillion in Trump-era tax breaks, add new exemptions including no federal taxes on tips, and allocate USD 350 billion for national security and immigration enforcement. It proposes significant cuts to Medicaid, food stamps, and green energy programs to offset costs. A revised provision includes a USD 25 billion fund for rural hospitals, aimed at mitigating concerns over Medicaid provider tax reductions. The bill also raises the SALT deduction cap to USD 40,000 for five years and increases the national debt limit. According to the Congressional Budget Office, the bill could result in 11.8 million more uninsured Americans by 2034. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like local network access control Esseps Learn More Undo It estimates food aid would drop for 3 million recipients. On Sunday, President Trump described the Senate's procedural clearance as a "great victory." "Tonight we saw a GREAT VICTORY in the Senate with the GREAT, BIG, BEAUTIFUL BILL," he posted on Truth Social. He thanked Republican senators Rick Scott, Mike Lee, Ron Johnson, and Cynthia Lummis for their support. "They, along with all of the other Republican Patriots who voted for the Bill, are people who truly love our Country!" Trump wrote. He pledged to work with them to advance his economic agenda, citing goals to secure the border, reduce spending, and protect Second Amendment rights. In a separate post, Trump added, "VERY PROUD OF THE REPUBLICAN PARTY TONIGHT. GOD BLESS YOU ALL!" The bill was released late Friday night. Debate in the Senate is expected to continue through the weekend, with multiple amendments and votes ahead. If passed, the legislation will return to the House for final approval before heading to Trump's desk. 'Lords is great but…': Ravi Shastri makes bold pitch for WTC final in India

Former player and now commentator Ravi Shastri (Photo by) Former India head coach Ravi Shastri has endorsed England as the ideal venue for the World Test Championship finals while suggesting that the prestigious event could potentially move to larger stadiums in India and Australia in the future once it gains more global popularity. The statement comes as England continues to host WTC finals, with three successive championships being played across different stadiums in the country over the past six years. The inaugural World Test Championship final was hosted at the Rose Bowl in Southampton, featuring India and New Zealand. The subsequent final saw Australia emerge victorious against India at the Oval, claiming the WTC championship title from the Kiwis. Go Beyond The Boundary with our YouTube channel. SUBSCRIBE NOW! The most recent WTC final took place at Lord's Cricket Ground in London, where South Africa secured victory against Australia. This triumph marked the end of South Africa's 27-year drought for an ICC trophy under Temba Bavuma's leadership. "I think to start off initially, it's good if it's here (Lord's) actually. Once it gets the popularity and eyebrows it deserves, then it can start shifting. But I think the MCG can be a great place for a World Test Championship Final. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Kilcarty: Waterproof Your Home [Discover] Waterproofing Services Learn More Undo Ahmedabad can be a great place for the WTC Final. Basically, the places where you can draw a crowd. Because Lord's is not a 100,000-seater stadium. So, irrespective of which team is playing, you know you will get a good crowd," Shastri expressed during a Wisden Cricket podcast. India's Day 2 at the Nets in Edgbaston | IND vs ENG Test Series The discussion about venue selection has gained prominence as England is expected to continue hosting the WTC finals for the next two cycles. According to the International Cricket Council's Future Tours Program, the 2027 WTC Final is scheduled to be held at Lord's, with subsequent finals planned for 2029 and 2031. The Board of Control for Cricket in India's recent bid to host the 2027 WTC final was unsuccessful. The decision favored England due to its consistent support for neutral Test matches. London venues have demonstrated their ability to attract neutral cricket enthusiasts who appreciate the longest format of the game. However, Shastri's suggestion points to the potential of hosting future championships at larger venues like the Narendra Modi Stadium in India and the Melbourne Cricket Ground in Australia. Quiz: Who's that IPL player? These proposed alternative venues offer significantly larger seating capacities compared to traditional English cricket grounds. This capacity difference could potentially accommodate more spectators once the World Test Championship establishes a stronger following among global cricket audiences. The progression of WTC final venues reflects the evolving nature of Test cricket's premier championship event. While maintaining its current base in England, the tournament shows potential for geographical expansion as it continues to develop its global appeal and fan following. The ongoing discussion about venue selection highlights the balance between tradition and growth in Test cricket's flagship event. England's role as the current host nation has established a foundation for the championship, while future possibilities remain open for expansion to other major cricket venues worldwide.
