Lawyer Says ‘Strong Evidence' Clears Hakimi as Mbappé Stands by Him in Rape Case

Rabat – Achraf Hakimi's lawyer, Fanny Colin, says there is 'strong evidence' that clears the Moroccan football star of any wrongdoing, as French prosecutors officially requested a rape trial against him. 'We will fight until the end to make sure the truth comes out and that it is clearly said and understood that Achraf Hakimi did not do or say anything wrong,' Colin told RMC Sport. She added that the accusations are based on a version of events that she considers 'incoherent' and lacking any signs of trauma usually seen in similar cases. The case dates back to February 2023, when a 24-year-old woman accused Hakimi of forcing her into a non-consensual sexual act at his home near Paris. The public prosecutor's office in Nanterre asked on Friday for the 26-year-old to be tried by a criminal court. Hakimi has firmly denied the allegations since the beginning of the investigation. Now, the decision lies with the investigating judge, who will determine whether the case will go to trial. If convicted, Hakimi could face up to 15 years in prison. His lawyer also questioned the woman's story, calling it inconsistent. 'In 99.9% of sexual assault cases, there is at least some sign of trauma, whether it's nightmares, weight changes, or anything else. Here, there is nothing,' she argued. Colin added that she remains calm even if a trial happens, saying the truth will come out. 'Never seen him behave inappropriately' The alleged incident happened on February 25, 2023, one day before a big PSG match that Hakimi missed. The woman says she met the footballer through Instagram and was driven to his house in a car ordered by him. She claims he kissed her and touched her without consent, even after she told him no. She says she managed to push him away and called a friend to pick her up. French football star Kylian Mbappé, who was a close teammate of Hakimi at Paris Saint-Germain, also gave a statement to the police. He defended his friend, saying, 'Achraf Hakimi is respectful toward women. Even when drinking, I've never seen him behave inappropriately.' He added that he had never heard of any women saying Hakimi had crossed the line. Mbappé also talked about the night Hakimi found out about the investigation, saying he cried and was emotionally shaken. Mbappé supported the idea that the case might be a setup, pointing to messages from the woman that suggest a plan to get money from Hakimi. In one text, the woman reportedly wrote, 'We're going to rob him!' although she later said it was just a joke to relieve stress. The case has resurfaced at a sensitive time for Hakimi, who is said to be gaining international support for his performance on the field and is reportedly being considered in the race for the Ballon d'Or. Some fans and commentators now question whether the renewed focus on the case is part of a campaign against him just as he is reaching new career heights. Tags: Achraf Hakimirapetrial

French Police Arrest Moroccan Doctor Suspected of Wife's Murder

French authorities arrested a Moroccan doctor on July 29 on suspicion of killing his wife, a fellow physician who disappeared under mysterious circumstances in Fez two weeks ago. Three days after the victim's mysterious disappearance, investigators discovered her body buried in the garden of her husband's home located in the Ouled Zbair area near Taza. The 39-year-old victim disappeared on July 14, shortly after leaving her workplace at the regional health delegation in Fez. Investigators tracked her cell phone's location data, which led them to her husband's house in the Ouled Zbair commune. Meanwhile, blood traces on her husband's car, which investigators found in his garage just before he fled to France, designated him as the primary suspect. Investigations took into consideration material and technical evidence, leading the prosecutor's office at the Fez Court of Appeal to issue an international arrest warrant against the husband. Reports indicate that the couple experienced severe tensions and complications in their relationship in recent months, stemming from persistent personal conflicts. The investigation also established that the murder took place in Fez, before the perpetrator transported the body over 125 kilometers to the rural area of Ouled Zbair, in what appears to be a deliberate attempt to cover up the crime. In the meantime, Moroccan judicial authorities are coordinating with their French counterparts to complete the suspect's extradition procedure, to be subject to murder charges, including premeditated murder and concealment of a corpse, according to the Moroccan justice system. Led by the prosecutor's office, the investigation focuses on analyzing phone data and biological evidence. The couple's circle has given testimonies, aiming to clarify all aspects of this heinous crime that has deeply shocked public opinion all over Morocco. Tags: FezFranceMoroccan arrestedmurder

French-Moroccan restaurateur faces racist attack in La Roche-Posay

Hasna, a mother of three and a French-Moroccan restaurateur who recently moved to La Roche-Posay (Vienne), was attacked on Saturday, July 19, in front of her restaurant, Le Casablanca. She recounts being subjected to racist insults, physical assault, and sexual aggression. «I am completely shattered. Why so much hatred? I just feel like I'm not welcome here», she told France Bleu, still in shock. On that day, two men appeared at her door. One had already confronted her a few days earlier after she refused to serve intoxicated customers. She stepped outside alone to meet them, asking her husband to stay inside the restaurant. One of the attackers immediately «groped her buttock». «I felt his hand squeezing my buttock», she recounts. Another, younger man, struck her. She fell to the ground. «I took several blows, to my buttocks, knees, face, and chest». The insults were vicious. Despite the pain, Hasna repeats them: «They called me a filthy Arab, said I have no place in La Roche-Posay (...)». Words that cut as deeply as the physical blows, if not more. When the police arrived, Hasna hoped for protection. Yet, the attackers were not detained. «What traumatized me even more was watching them walk away, smiling. (...) I didn't understand. [The police] told me they were sorry, but I am sorrier for myself having been attacked.» The medical report lists pain in the coccyx, shoulder, ribs, knee, and describes a «great psychological distress». Since the attack, Hasna has been living in seclusion, relying on anti-anxiety medication and sleeping pills. «I have nightmares where they rape me, beat me, beat my children, burn me in my home», she confides. She filed a complaint on July 20. The Poitiers prosecutor's office has not commented on the case. Meanwhile, the mayor of La Roche-Posay, Pascale Moreau, expressed being «shocked» by the events. «I do not accept and denounce any form of aggression and violence», she added.
