Netflix 'masterpiece' breaks another record with 106,000,000 views in days
Netflix's biggest show Squid Game has returned for its third and final season and it just can't stop breaking records.
The South Korean thriller is by far the most watched series on the streamer with season one securing 265.2m views after its release in 2021, easily taking the crown for number one show globally.
Season two, which came out at the end of last year, followed hot on its heels with a respectable 192.6m views.
Now the third season has broken another record for the second week in a row, reaching 106.3m views in just 10 days, which is more than any Netflix series in any language has ever reached in two weeks, Variety reports.
The season has now joined the first two instalments at the top of the most-watched non-English shows on Netflix, sitting in third place.

Last week, the show was hailed as the biggest TV launch for Netflix ever after totting up an eye-watering 60.1 million views (368.4m hours) in just three days.
For those not in the know, Squid Game follows Player 456, Seong Gi-hun (Lee Jung-jae) who enters a competition with a prize of 45.6billion won (£24.9million).
The life-changing money comes with a deadly catch, however, as each task comes to a lethal conclusion with just one person left alive by the end of the games.
After winning in the first season, Gi-hun re-enters the game in second season with the sole purpose of enacting revenge.
In the final season we see the culmination of Gi-hun's attempts to take the lethal games down from the inside as he goes face-to-face with the overseer, the Front Man (Lee Byung-hun).
Somehow, after three seasons and a total of 22 episodes, Squid Game manages to pull even more shocks and unexpected twists out of the bag right up until the last minute on screen, including with new games that take the savagery that the contestants are capable of to the next level.
As for why season three is nearly perfect, and not a clear 10/10, the main qualm I have pertains to a group of characters shown in the trailer who are so distracting that they bring me back to real life with a sharp jolt – the VIPs.
Their presence is jarring and feels unnecessary, even if the intention is to demonstrate who the game is being held for.
Squid Game ends the way that it began – with audiences on the edges of their seat, questioning their morals, transfixed by the brutality of human beings but also hopeful that even in the darkest of times, goodness will prevail. A true TV masterpiece.
The highly-anticipated finale, which somehow was gorier than ever, has received mixed reviews from critics.
'The third season's worldbuilding efforts remain frustratingly unimaginative for the most part, although the season's final 10 minutes deliver some of its most glorious moments that take place outside the games,' The Verge wrote in a review.
'It brings me no pleasure to report that the third and thankfully last of Squid Game seasons only confirms that we, like Gi-hun (Lee Jung-jae), should've left that cursed island behind for good after his first victory,' Hollywood Reporter said.
Meanwhile The Wrap argued: 'The show proves it's still more than capable of rendering a tragically compelling story that manages to entertain and have you emotionally invested in its characters.

Fans will have to tune in to decide whether creator Hwang Dong-hyuk has managed to pull a hattrick out the bag.
One thing is for sure, Lee has no qualms that this is a 'career defining role' for him. More Trending
'When I was reading the scripts for seasons two and three, I knew that he would be put on another rollercoaster, and even more so. So I thought, wow, if I just play this character very well, it's going to be a very amazing, career-defining role for me,' he told Metro after the season three premiere.
And Hwang has already teased his ideas for a potential spin-off so this may not yet be the end of the Squid Game universe.

INTERVIEW: Gareth Ainsworth is relishing "the journey" he has embarked on with Gillingham, who he joined late last season following his shock departure from Shrewsbury Gareth Ainsworth has long been at peace with his shock call to quit Shrewsbury and now he's ready to rock Gillingham's world. The 'Wild Thing' - lead vocalist of The Cold Blooded Hearts - requires no introduction in EFL managerial circles. During 10-and-a-half years at Wycombe, his heavy-metal football yielded exceptional results, propelling Wanderers from the fourth tier of English football into the Championship. And following two short-lived spells in west London (with QPR) and Shropshire, he wants to run it back. Ainsworth said ahead of next week's League Two opener at Accrington Stanley: "I just want my players to feel like they belong to something. When we look at football, we're in a privileged position compared to other walks of life. "Gillingham's identify was getting a little bit muddled up with changes of personnel, both players and managers. We want to bring that identity back, this summer has been a big mental shift of the whole place." Ex-Shrewsbury midfielder Jamie Tolley accused Ainsworth of "promising the world but delivering nothing" when the 52-year-old left the New Meadow for Priestfield in March. But the long-haired gaffer makes no secret of the fact the ambitious pitch from Gillingham's American owners Brad and Shannon Galinson ignited the fire within. Ainsworth certainly knows how to get a place bouncing, his band's latest gig was just a few weeks ago in Soho, and he plans to front an electric Kentish revolution. When asked if he now feels pressure to vindicate his Shrewsbury departure, he said: "No, not at all. "Managers are restricted in what they can say with their contracts, I wish I could have said a lot more. "My justification for coming to Gillingham sits well with me, no problem at all. "I'm on a journey and I bought into the journey at Shrewsbury, I wish it went differently, it was a nice place to live. "People will laugh and say I'm not loyal but you've got the wrong guy, I don't need to prove anything to anyone." Ainsworth was such a coup for Gills, the bookies have them among the favourites for promotion. He isn't buying that, however, adding: "It's flattering but I don't know where the substance in that has come from. We haven't made £1million signings, we've signed three players. "Thank you but we're focusing on the journey, it's a two-year project centred around improving, the next level is way down the line for me." Ainsworth's ranks have been bolstered by the capture of ex-Burnley and Stoke City striker Sam Vokes and he's also optimistic he'll get Bradley Dack fit and firing. He continued: "We should be seen as underdogs, just like we were at Wycombe. Age is irrelevant to me, if you are good enough, you're good enough. If you look at the history of my success, it's come with experience. "Adebayo Akinfenwa, the partnership we had at Wycombe, Craig Mackail-Smith, Nathan Tyson, Marcus Bean, Sam Saunders, Joe Jacobson, Matt Bloomfield, the list is endless. "The owners have brought me in and told me to manage how I want. It was a really good move getting me in early so I could look over the team for the last few games [nine] of the season. "They just want success, they enjoy winning and the thrill of it - so that's what we're going to try and do."

Renewed Or Cancelled? Trigger is an exciting action thriller K-drama, complete with exhilarating chapters and compelling characters at the helm. If you've been following this one, you may be wondering if this has been renewed or cancelled. Here's what we know: What is Trigger about? Trigger is a high-octane, thrilling K-drama that revolves around the illegal gun trade in South Korea. Although there are almost zero crime cases involving guns in the country, things soon change quickly. llegal guns, from unknown sources, are brought into the country and gun incidents explode. At the center of this is Lee Do, a righteous detective. In his past, he served in the military as a sniper but now, he struggles to stop a series of gun incidents and chases after the source of the illegal firearms. His counterpart is Moon Baek, a key figure in the underground arms broker world. He acts like an easy going person, but he is a person who meticulously plans out his actions and then puts his plan into action. These two men, Lee Do and Moon-Baek, hold a gun for their own reasons. At the time of writing, Netflix have not renewed Trigger for season 2. Generally Netflix would gauge numerous metrics before renewing a show, including how many people initially watch it and then looking at the drop-off rate. With some shows, cancellations or renewals happen quickly. Other times, it can take months before a decision over a show's future is made. So far, Letters from the Past has had a pretty good reaction online from audiences and critics alike. Regardless of ratings, it's extremely rare to find Korean dramas renewed for another season. That has changed in recent years but given the sheer wealth of talent in this that are sure to move onto other projects, we predict that Trigger will not be renewed for a second season. On top of that, this is billed as a limited series which only has 1 season. We'll be sure to update this section with more details as they become available. What we know about season 2 so far: Barely anything is known about season 2 right now. Given most Korean dramas are reserved to one season, it's rare to find these sort of shows renewed. With the rare exception of ongoing Netflix shows (Love ft. Marriage and Divorce, Hospital Playlist etc.) then it seems unlikely that this one will be renewed. Having said that though, we have seen Taxi Driver and Tale of the Nine Tailed renewed recently, alongside Alchemy of Souls too. Given how steady the ratings are for this series, could we see this one buck the trend? It seems very unlikely that Trigger will, but you never know! Netflix viewers demand second season of series that 'blew me away'
Netflix viewers have described the series as an "unexpected find" that they "highly recommend" The Brothers Sun is an American comedy drama which landed on Netflix in January 2024 and stars Michelle Yeoh. The series follows the life of Bruce Sun, who lives in California, and has his life turned upside down when his older brother Charles visits from Taiwan. Bruce has no recollection of his family's profession as Taipei's most renowned gangsters. But after their criminal mastermind father was almost killed, Charles moved to LA to protect his family. In a further twist, Bruce learns his mother moved to California to start a new life away from her estranged family and to protect her sun. But her attempts were futile and Bruce has to adapt to his family's gangster lifestyle. Fans of the series have heaped praise on Brothers Sun with one reviewing it: "This show was an unexpected find and complete tour de force. "If you enjoy intense family drama with Shakespearean overtones and all the feels, laugh-aloud comedic moments, amazing martial arts fighting sequences, a highly talented and diverse cast who inhabits all the characters, be it main or secondary, and a feel-good ending, I highly recommend this series!" Another added: "It completely took me by surprise. Brother's Sun is an amazing web series that I thoroughly enjoyed. I want to share my appreciation without giving away any spoilers for those who haven't seen it yet. "The unpredictable twists and turns were fantastic, and Mama being the information bank and mastermind added a great dimension. Both sons being brave and smart showcased a refreshing sibling bond, which I haven't seen in a drama for a while. "The casting was brilliant, and kudos to all the actors for playing their roles so well." A third continued: "Best show in a long time …. With comedy and action it's amazing. The fighting is one of the best I have watched in a couple years. "This show has a little bit of everything crime, action, romance, with a twist of comedy which makes it all around the best show in a long time. They covered everything we need this show to come back for another season." Unfortunately for fans, it was revealed there wouldn't be another series as it was cancelled by Netflix.
