In the case that Mysterio is unable to go, Johnson speculates that he could be replaced by Rey Fenix or Dragon Lee.

Muhammad Hassan, one of the most controversial characters in modern WWE history, has officially announced his retirement from professional wrestling. The man behind the character, Mark Copani, confirmed that his brief return to the ring a few years ago was his final chapter as a performer. Speaking on the A2theK Wrestling Show, Copani reflected on his short-lived comeback and his final decision to step away from the business for good. Ex-WWE Star: "I Don't Think I'll Ever Step In The Ring Again" After more than a decade away from wrestling, Hassan returned to the independent circuit in 2018 for a handful of matches. He explained that the experience was enjoyable but that his days as an active competitor are now definitely behind him. "It was a lot of fun, just to be able to get back in a ring in front of a few hundred people," Hassan shared. "Just see if I could still do it, and I could do it, obviously not at the level I used to do it... I was done and kind of got it out of my system, and I don't think I'll ever step in the ring and wrestle again." A Controversial and Unforgettable WWE Character The Muhammad Hassan character debuted in WWE in 2004. He was portrayed as an Arab-American who was tired of the prejudice and stereotyping he and his community faced in a post-9/11 America. The character was complex and effective; his grievances were legitimate and often sympathetic, but he delivered his message with the arrogance of a classic heel, which generated incredible heat from the live crowds. He remained undefeated for months and was placed in high-profile programs with legends like Hulk Hogan, Shawn Michaels, and The Undertaker. He was widely believed to be on a fast track to winning the World Heavyweight Championship. More news: WWE Superstar Announces Retirement Match The Storyline That Ended a WWE Career Hassan's promising career came to an abrupt and tragic end in July 2005 due to a case of horrific, real-world timing. On an episode of SmackDown, a pre-taped segment aired that showed Hassan "praying" on the entrance ramp before a group of masked men attacked The Undertaker on his behalf. The same day that the taped segment aired, the tragic London bombings, a series of terrorist attacks, occurred. The unfortunate visual parallels between the storyline and the real-world tragedy led to a massive public and media backlash. The television network UPN pressured WWE to remove the character from its programming immediately, and Hassan's career as a top-tier star was over in an instant. After leaving the business, Mark Copani went on to have a successful career as a high school principal. More WWE News: For more on WWE, head to Newsweek Sports.

Florida Panthers star Matthew Tkachuk will be the face of NHL 26

Matthew Tkachuk has been the face of the Florida Panthers for the past three years. He is becoming one of the faces of USA hockey, too, leading into the Winter Olympics in February. And now, he's the face of the NHL's annual video game. Tkachuk, the Panthers' star winger, will be the cover athlete for NHL 26, EA Sports unveiled on Monday. The full cover design for the game will be announced Wednesday on the EA Sports NHL YouTube channel. Tkachuk, who joined the Panthers via a blockbuster trade with the Calgary Flames ahead of the 2022-23 season, has helped turn the Panthers into a juggernaut. Florida has reached the Stanley Cup Final in all three of his seasons with the team and won it all each of the past two years. In that time, Tkachuk has logged 254 points (88 goals, 166 assists) in 211 regular-season games with the Panthers while adding another 69 points (25 goals, 44 assists) in 67 Stanley Cup playoffs games. He was tied for the team lead with 23 points during the team's run to a second consecutive Stanley Cup. Tkachuk also helped the United States win silver in the 4 Nations Face-Off in February and has already been named one of six players to be on Team USA for the 2026 Winter Olympics in Italy. Tkachuk is the second Panthers player to grace the cover of the video game's main cover. Goaltender John Vanbiesbrouck was on the cover of NHL 97. Meanwhile, Olli Jokinen was on the cover of the European version of NHL 2005. It's the second time in the past three years a South Florida athlete has been the main cover athlete for a league's video game. Jazz Chisholm Jr. was on the cover of 2023 edition of MLB The Show when he was with the Miami Marlins.

Janel Grant rep on Brock Lesnar return to WWE: 'Attempt to sweep misconduct under the rug'

One of WWE's biggest returns has caused backlash. After the main event of SummerSlam 2025, fans were stunned to see Brock Lesnar return to WWE for the first time since 2023. He emerged to a thunderous ovation as he attacked John Cena as the show closed. Lesnar is one of WWE's biggest stars, but he's spent nearly two full years away from the company amid the Vince McMahon lawsuit. In January 2024, former WWE employee Janel Grant sued McMahon, alleging the wrestling company's founder took part in sex trafficking and put her through sexual acts that were done with "extreme cruelty and degradation." Lesnar is mentioned in the lawsuit as someone that McMahon offered sexual encounters to with Grant. A spokesperson said in a statement to USA TODAY Sports, Lesnar's return is an "attempt to sweep misconduct under the rug." "For far too long, abuse was allowed to thrive under WWE's leadership. Instead of righting this wrong, WWE has done nothing to ensure those responsible are held accountable. This attempt to sweep misconduct under the rug will backfire," the spokesperson said. "We look forward to the full set of facts, including those about Mr. Lesnar, coming out in a court of law where they belong." USA TODAY Sports has reached out to WWE for comment. What is said about Brock Lesnar in Janel Grant lawsuit? The suit claims McMahon used Grant as an incentive for a WWE star to re-sign with the company, offering a sexual encounter with Grant for the star. The star isn't named in the suit, but The Wall Street Journal identified them as Lesnar. It is alleged Lesnar went to WWE headquarters in Connecticut as McMahon offered a sexual encounter with Grant, but it did not happen "because he was too intoxicated and taken back to the plane." Grant alleges McMahon ordered her in July 2021 to create personalized sexual content for the WWE star and he told McMahon 'he likes what he sees." The star also later expressed the desire to "set a play date," but a snowstorm changed the star's plans. No sexual encounters are alleged in the lawsuit. The return also came as WWE ditched having traditional press conferences after premium live events, which offered reporters the chance to ask stars and WWE chief content officer Paul "Triple H" Levesque questions. Instead, WWE held a SummerSlam post-show hosted by its panel. Levesque said the dynamic of the room changes with Lesnar back with the company. "Anything you thought was happening sort of all goes out the window because the factor of Brock now just changes that dynamic. It makes it so unpredictable. Incredible to have him back," Levesque said.
