The batches of pilgrims, including men, women and sadhus, left from the Nunwan base camp in Pahalgam, in south Kashmir's Anantnag, and Baltal base camp in Sonamarg area of central Kashmir's Ganderbal at the first light of the day, the officials said.
The chants of 'bum bum bole' filled the air as the batches were flagged off by senior officials from the respective base camps, they added.
The unprecedented security cover this year comes in the wake of the Pahalgam attack on April 22 that left 26 civilians dead in the Baisaran meadow, which falls near the traditional Nunwan-Chandanwari yatra route in Anantnag district. The distance between Nunwan base camp and Baisaran, the attack site, is just around 5 km.
The 38-day pilgrimage will conclude on August 9.

The annual Amarnath Yatra that began on Thursday (July 3, 2025) started early morning from the twin tracks— the traditional 48-km Nunwan-Pahalgam route and the 14-km Baltal route.

After the terror attack on tourists in Pahalgam, the security agencies would be taking extra surveillance during the peak tourist season at ski resort of Gulmarg which is one of the most visited tourist resort of the J&K. Police is laying extra emphasis on coordinated, multi-layered security across vulnerable zones, including cable car terminals, forest tracks, densely populated tourist spots and major access routes, besides maintaining continuous surveillance, real-time intelligence exchange and synchronized patrol efforts of all forces. (File) The picturesque resort witnessed record tourist arrivals in past two years, however after the April 22 attach that claimed 26 lives, including 25 tourists and a local ponnywala at Baisaran meadow in Pahalgam, all the tourists cancelled advance bookings and there was low influx of tourists. However, from past one month tourists both locals and non locals have again started visiting the resort and with the beginning of Amarnath yatra the tourist arrival is again rising on daily basis, so security forces are taking extra precautions to safeguard the resort and it's adjoining areas. Police is laying extra emphasis on coordinated, multi-layered security across vulnerable zones, including cable car terminals, forest tracks, densely populated tourist spots and major access routes, besides maintaining continuous surveillance, real-time intelligence exchange and synchronized patrol efforts of all forces. On Wednesday, DIG North Kashmir Range Maqsood-ul-Zaman and DIG North Kashmir Operations Range (CRPF) Raghuvansh Kumar jointly convened a high-level security coordination meeting in Gulmarg, Baramulla, to reinforce safety measures across the Gulmarg bowl and its environs. The meeting was attended by officers of different security agencies and tourism departments and private stakeholders attended the meeting with the shared objective of ensuring a robust and seamlessly integrated security grid and tourist activities. 'During the discussions, DIG Maqsood-ul-Zaman underscored the need for coordinated, multi-layered security across vulnerable zones, including cable car terminals, forest tracks, densely populated tourist spots and major access routes and stressed the importance of maintaining continuous surveillance, real-time intelligence exchange and synchronised patrol efforts that unite the capabilities of all uniformed forces and also emphasized adherence to the highest standards of professionalism and readiness in response protocols. Both DIGs affirmed their commitment to enhancing security coverage, refining emergency and incident response systems, and optimising crowd and vehicle check mechanisms,' police spokesperson said adding that the security grid was expanded to incorporate strategically positioned checkpoints and the activation of rapid response teams. 'Communications channels between field units and command centres have been fortified to enable instantaneous reporting and coordination,' he added. Concluding the meeting, DIG NKR and DIG NKOR collectively reaffirmed the security establishment's resolve to secure tourists and residents. 'They (officers) pledged to continually monitor evolving threats and proactively adjust deployments to prevent any recurrence of violence in and around Gulmarg Bowl.'

IndiGo debuts direct Mumbai-Amsterdam flights: Eyes leisure, business & student travel; check flight schedule
IndiGo Indian airline IndiGo has launched direct flight services between Mumbai and Amsterdam. The new route, announced on Wednesday, marks the airline's second major long-haul launch in two days, following the start of Mumbai-Manchester flights. 'This route will not only enhance connectivity for leisure, business, and student travellers, but also deepen the thriving partnership between India and the Netherlands, culturally, economically, and diplomatically," said IndiGo CEO Pieter Elbers as per PTI. The Mumbai-Amsterdam route is part of IndiGo's broader effort to grow its long-haul network and make international travel more affordable and accessible for Indian travelers. The Gurugram-based airline, which currently operates over 400 aircraft and flies to more than 40 international destinations, plans to introduce direct flights to London, Athens, and eight other international cities during the current financial year. Airport customer satisfaction survey out; top three spots go to Bhopal, Khajuraho and Udaipur
Airports in Bhopal, Khajuraho, and Udaipur have secured the highest rank in a nationwide customer satisfaction survey conducted by the Airports Authority of India (AAI) for the January–June 2025 period, reported PTI. According to AAI, these three airports each received a perfect score of 5 out of 5 in the survey, which covered 60 of the 62 operational AAI-managed airports. The survey excluded Jaisalmer Airport in Rajasthan and Tezpur Airport in Assam. The Bhopal and Khajuraho airports in Madhya Pradesh, along with Rajasthan's Udaipur airport, emerged as top performers in terms of passenger satisfaction.
