'Escape from the field': Social media has field day as Pakistan promotes Asim Munir to Field Marshal
04:38
Pakistan Army
chief general
Asim Munir
was on Tuesday promoted to the rank of
Field Marshal
for 'successfully' leading the armed forces during the recent
conflict with India
.
The move, approved during a cabinet meeting chaired by
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif
, makes Munir only the second officer in Pakistan's history to receive the title—after General
Ayub Khan
, who was defeated in the 1965 war with India.
While the Pakistani government hailed it as a significant honour, many saw it as a dramatic—and ironic—gesture.

Social media users were quick to mock the promotion, calling it Pakistan's 'most ambitious promotional stunt' yet. 'He is the second Field Marshal of Pakistan. The first was Md Ayub Khan, who was defeated by India in 1965. History repeats itself,' one user posted on X.
Some questioned what the title was awarded for.
'Field Marshal for what exactly?' asked one user, summing up the frustration online.
Another joked: "Failed Marshal Asim Munir promotes himself after leading the country to Pakistan's latest military defeat against India."
One meme doing the rounds asked: 'Ye wohi Field Marshal hai na jo field se bhag kar bunker me chhup gaya tha?' ( loosely translated as, 'Isn't he the same Field Marshal who ran from the field and hid in a bunker?')
"Asim Munir got a well-deserved promotion due to his exemplary participation in an adventure sport common in Pakistani conditions called 'Hide In A Bunker The Longest'," another user remarked.

The sarcasm didn't stop there. "Only in Pakistan you can get a promotion for your failure,' quipped another user.
Some speculated if the title had less to do with military success and more with staying close to power. One viral post read: 'Only in Pakistan you can get a promotion for your failure.'
Another took a dig at the title itself: "They must be confused. Must have asked him to look after Agriculture and leave the Armed Forces.
For them that must mean Field Marshal."
As satire mixed with disbelief, one user summed it up: 'What next? President of Pakistan Field Marshal Asim Munir?!'
Referencing Pakistan's military record and recent losses, another viral comment read: 'Pakistan Army logic: Get defeated by India, lose 11 airbases, declare 'victory', and then promote the boss to Field Marshal.'
As another user joked, the only thing left now may be an ISPR-produced Netflix comedy: 'Field Marshal – Escape from the Field.'

Waziristan attack: MEA rejects Pakistan army claim; says 'statement deserves contempt'
NEW DELHI: The ministry of external affairs (MEA) on Sunday dismissed claims made by the Pakistan Army blaming India for a deadly suicide bombing in North Waziristan, calling the statement 'deserving of contempt. ' In a response issued in the early hours of the day, the MEA said, 'We have seen an official statement by the Pakistan Army seeking to blame India for the attack in Waziristan on 28 June. We reject this statement with the contempt it deserves.' MEA's response comes after at least 16 Pakistani soldiers were killed and more than two dozen people injured in a suicide bombing on Saturday. The incident occurred in North Waziristan district of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province when a bomber drove an explosives-laden vehicle into a military convoy. 'A suicide bomber rammed an explosive-laden vehicle into a military convoy,' a local government official was quoted as saying to news agency AFP. He confirmed the death toll had risen to 16 from an earlier count of 13. The official requested anonymity as he was not authorised to speak to the media. The blast also damaged nearby homes. 'The explosion also caused the roofs of two houses to collapse, injuring six children,' a police officer in the area told AFP. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Giao dịch vàng CFDs với mức chênh lệch giá thấp nhất IC Markets Đăng ký Undo The attack was later claimed by the suicide wing of the Hafiz Gul Bahadur group, a known faction of the Pakistan Taliban. Russia making air defence system that destroyed Pakistani drones and missiles during Operation Sindoor even more powerful, India will...
New Delhi: Russia has started serial production of mini missiles for the Pantsir air defence system. This is one of those defence systems that destroyed Pakistani drones in the sky during Operation Sindoor. What is Pantsir capable of? This system is capable of shooting down dozens of drones at once. Apart from this, it can also shoot down other low flying objects like helicopters and spy balloons. Russia has also used this defence system extensively during the Ukraine war. Apart from this, Russia has also exported it to at least 10 countries other than India. What does media say about Pantsir? According to the report of Russian state media Sputnik, Russian state corporation Rostec said, 'The mini missiles of the Pantsir air defense missile system of our High-Precision Systems Holding Company have passed all their tests in different regions of the country and have now been sent for serial production.' Rostec said that these mini missiles can easily shoot down enemy mini swarm drones. Many drones can be destroyed in one attack. Rostec said in its statement, 'Now one Pantsir-SMD-E can destroy dozens of unmanned aerial vehicles.' How it performed in Ukraine Rostec has said that mini missiles for the Pantsir system were used for the first time in the war against Ukraine. During this time, this system has destroyed targets with accuracy. Russia has been calling the Ukraine war a special military operation since the beginning. In such a situation, the inclusion of mini missiles in the Pantsir system will make Russia's air defense more powerful and it will get a strong defense shield against Ukraine's drones. How powerful is Pantsir S-1 The Pantsir S-1 is an automatic, medium-range surface-to-air missile and anti-aircraft system. It mainly has three types of components, which together form the Pantsir S1 system. These include a missile launcher, a radar truck and a command post. The Pantsir-S1 has been made by the KBP Instrument Design Bureau of the Russian company Tula. It is considered to be a replacement for Russia's old Tunguska M1. The Pantsir-S1 is considered a precision weapon for the military against aircraft, helicopters, precision ammunition, cruise missiles and UAVs. In August 2024, Russia completed tests of a manoeuvrable track-based Pantsir-SM-SV system for service with Russian Ground Forces and Airborne Forces.

India's K-6 Hypersonic Missile Could Strike Fear In Enemies' Hearts, Tensions For Pakistan And China To Rise
In what could raise serious concerns for China and Pakistan, reports claim that India's Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) is developing a powerful new weapon — the K-6 hypersonic missile. According to media reports, the Indian Navy is preparing to conduct sea trials of the K-6 missile. These tests will reportedly be carried out using the Navy's S-5 class submarines. If successful, trials will also be conducted from aircraft carriers in future phases. The missile is being developed indigenously by DRDO. In today's DNA, Rahul Sinha, Managing Editor of Zee News, analysed the K-6 hypersonic missile of India: Watch Full Episode Here: #DNAWithRahulSinha | देश की हाइपरसोनिक पावर का विश्लेषण.... समंदर में होगा 'बारूदी' मिसाइल टेस्ट भारत करेगा मिसाइल परीक्षण.. मीडिया रिपोर्ट्स में मिसाइल टेस्ट का दावा, K-6 मिसाइल का टेस्ट करेगा भारत, पनडुब्बी से लॉन्च की जाएगी मिसाइल#DNA #K6Missile #DRDO @RahulSinhaTV — Zee News (@ZeeNews) June 28, 2025 Hypersonic missiles are among the most advanced military technologies in the world, currently held by only a select few nations. If India's test succeeds, it will become the sixth country globally to possess such a capability. Features Of K-6 Missile The K-6 missile's standout feature is its speed. Sources associated with the project claim it can reach speeds up to Mach 7.5, making it nearly impossible to intercept using traditional air defence systems. The missile is also expected to have a range of up to 8,000 kilometers. A land-based variant of the K-6 is also planned after successful trials. India-Pakistan Conflict The development comes after India demonstrated its firepower during 'Operation Sindoor', where BrahMos missiles and suicide drones reportedly destroyed Pakistani military installations without resistance. As India moves toward testing its hypersonic missile, it is likely that not just Indian citizens — but also Pakistan's top leadership, including Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Army Chief Asim Munir — are watching closely. The K-6 could prove to be a major strategic threat to Pakistan.
