Lorraine Kelly left baffled after very awkward Mariah Carey moment
Lorraine Kelly was left scratching her head after working with Mariah Carey. The telly star has fronted her self-titled ITV programme since 2010 having also appeared on the likes of Good Morning Britain, GMTV, Daybreak and This Morning.
But while she's come face-to-face with some of the biggest names in entertainment, the 65-year-old has also had her fair share of awkward run-ins. And one encounter with music icon Mariah Carey will remain at the top of the list when it comes to odd experiences.
But it wasn't because Mariah was "horrible," instead, Lorraine simply for the All I Want For Christmas hitmaker to be very confusing. Speaking at the Hay Festival of Literature and Arts, the broadcaster opened up to fans who had been eagerly waiting to grill her on her impressive career.
She said: "The one that was difficult, not because she was horrible... but Mariah Carey was 'refreshed'. It's good we were [pre-recording] it because her first answer was 10 minutes long, and did not make any sense. But I always give people the benefit of the doubt."
However, another interview with a major star left Lorraine utterly perplexed as the celebrity didn't arrive for the interview. Recalling the time she was scheduled to interview Lady Gaga, Lorraine told the crowd: "They kept saying 'she's getting in the car, she's getting in the car', and of course my crew have all been up since God knows when... They need to go home to bed!
"She never turned up; I don't know what happened there." The comments come after the Mirror revealed that Lorraine is fighting to secure the future of her show.
Sources claim that the Scottish star will have to "pull out all the stops" for it to survive. It was announced last week that the programme had been affected by the major shake-up at ITV. It will now air for 30 weeks of the year, rather than all year round. And the duration of the programme has been cut from an hour to just half an hour.
A source said: "Lorraine was not happy about what is happening and also had concern for the production team which will be cut back too. But the truth is she has to roll her sleeves up and work harder on her own show than she has in recent years, otherwise the long-term future does not look good."
They went on to add: "She has been an icon of ITV but serious cuts need to be made and her show has been cut to just 30 minutes, which after ad breaks will be a very short chunk of time. She needs to show bosses it is worth keeping on air. You can expect her to be pulling hard to get big name celebrities on her show instead of GMB or This Morning."
The star was made aware of the cuts in a private meeting with bosses and she will now work five days per week in order to give the programme the best chance of staying on screens. Staff at ITV were told last Tuesday that half of the 440 members of the production team would lose their jobs.
Meanwhile, Good Morning Britain will be extended by 30 minutes every day, eating into Lorraine's soon-to-be former airtime. This Morning, despite plunging viewing figures remains unaffected.
But Loose Women has also had its on-air time slashed and will also air for just half an hour for 30 weeks of the year. Many on the show are said to be feeling anxious about their future, with some of the older members of the panel allegedly feeling they may be replaced by younger stars, including Frankie Bridge, GK Barry and Olivia Attwood.

"It's a big risk to take something like this, as presenters know, after a stern role and you try something new. "It's a bit of a challenge for people to change their expectations and perceptions of you." The former MP joked "Tell me about it!", referencing his segue from a political career into presenting. When Ranvir Singh suggested that Jenny might find it difficult to return to The Chase after opening up to audiences, she said: "Putting myself out there to show a softer side of me, putting everything out there, my background, everything… was a bit of a risk. Rod Stewart opens up on heartbreak with ex-wife Rachel that 'tore him to shreds'
Rod Stewart said Rachel Hunter left him because she was too young when they married Sir Rod Stewart has opened up about the heartbreak he endured following the end of his marriage to second wife Rachel Hunter. The 80-year-old rock legend, who first tied the knot with Alana Hamilton in 1979, reflected on the painful split and how it shaped the next chapter of his life, both personally and professionally, Mirror reports. Rod and Alana, the mother of his children Kimberly and Sean, divorced in 1984. Years later, he married New Zealand-born model Rachel Hunter, who was just 21 at the time, 26 years his junior. Rod was 45. The couple went on to have two children together: daughter Renee and son Liam. Despite their early whirlwind romance, the marriage didn't last. The couple separated in 1999, and their divorce was finalised in 2006. Rod has now revealed how devastated he was by the split, admitting, 'Rachel left me because she was too young. My sister said I should never have married her in the first place, but it tore me to shreds.' Interestingly, it was just a day after his separation from Rachel that Rod met his current wife, Penny Lancaster. Recalling their first meeting, he told The Times that she had asked for his autograph. He then asked her if she liked dancing. 'She was an incredible dancer, gorgeous, [and wearing] 6ft 4in heels,' he said fondly, describing the moment with clear affection. However, the rocker was advised not to rush into anything serious so soon. 'There were six months between Rachel and Penny because my bass player, who had Penny's number, wouldn't give it to me,' he revealed. 'He said, 'All you're going to do now is s**g around.' And he was right, I had a splendid time in those six months.' Rod eventually reconnected with Penny, and the two tied the knot in 2007. They now share two sons, Alastair, 19, and Aiden, 14. Describing his wife of 18 years, Rod said she's 'got everything' he has ever wanted in a partner, and that their relationship has grown stronger with time. Join the Daily Record WhatsApp community! Their marriage remains strong, with Penny regularly supporting Rod at major events and appearances. Most recently, she was there by his side at Glastonbury as he performed the coveted legends slot on the Pyramid Stage. Their sons were also there to cheer him on, along with Renee and Ruby, Rod's daughter from his relationship with model Kelly Emberg. The couple also marked their 18th wedding anniversary with a lavish trip aboard the Venice Simplon-Orient-Express. The journey retraced the romantic milestones of their relationship, from Rod's proposal in Paris, to their wedding in Portofino, and the honeymoon that followed aboard a luxury yacht along the Italian coast, celebrating a love that has endured.

Victoria Beckham's sweet message to Mel B as she's forced to miss wedding
While there won't be a full Spice Girls reunion when Melanie B ties the knot with Rory McPhee, former bandmate Victoria Beckham has shared a touching message with her pal Victoria Beckham shared a sweet message with former bandmate Mel B as the Spice Girls icon gets ready to tie the knot. Over 30 years on from the two meeting and becoming part of the iconic group, they still share a special bond. And despite Posh not being at her pal's special day, she has shared a touching message in the build-up. She took to her Instagram Stories to share a sweet tribute ahead of the ceremony. Posting a photograph of her and Melanie together at a recent event, Victoria sent her well-wishes. IN the caption she gushed: "Sending love to you @officialmelb! @rorymcphee is a very lucky man! xx" It comes as Melanie and Rory prepare to say "I do" in one of the most iconic landmarks in the UK, St Paul's Cathedral in London. They will follow in the footsteps of the late Diana, Princess of Wales, and now King Charles, who also tied the knot at the prestigious location. But Victoria won't be there to watch the pair exchange vows. Neither will former bandmate Geri Halliwell, although Emma Bunton is thought to be on the guest list. Victoria and Geri's no-show is in no way a snub to the singer. Instead, they said it's solely due to busy schedules, which we exclusively revealed earlier this week. A source close to the band told the Mirror: "There's no snub, the girls are all on friendly terms with one another, but it's no secret that Geri is busy with Christian at Formula One and Victoria is extremely busy with her fashion brand." It's thought Victoria's plans will see her on a project in another country. Melanie C, known as Sporty Spice, meanwhile, is currently on tour and will be performing in Rødovre, eastern Denmark. The wedding follows Melanie's lavish hen do in Tunisia recently. She was joined by some of her closest friends, beloved mum Andrea, sister Danielle and her eldest daughter, Pheonix. For the occasion, she dressed in her iconic leopard print bikini and described the event as her "Zen party." And speaking about her big day, she recently told Women's Wear Daily: "This will be a very formal, English wedding where I want to feel regal and very proper. "All the ladies will wear hats or fascinators. Then, I'm having a second ceremony abroad, which will be more informal, sexy and beautiful." Mel family friend Rory, who is 13 years her junior, have known each other for years. He has worked as her hairstylist and it's thought the duo first became romantically attached in 2018. He later proposed to her in 2022.
