Magistrate Illi Marisqa Khalizan ordered Salman Abdullah, 31, to start serving his sentence from Friday.
Salman admitted to abetting a 32-year-old woman in deceiving a credit assessment officer into approving a loan application worth RM8,329 to obtain a mobile phone from a mobile phone distribution company by submitting a fake salary slip from a non-existent company and using a forged Malaysian identity card at a shopping mall on Feb 1.
Deputy public prosecutor Syafika Azwa Fikri asked the court to impose a deterrent sentence, but counsel Edwin Tomas pleaded for leniency, saying that his client has no fixed income and has to support four young children. – Bernama

Acting on a tip-off, anti-narcotics police raided a house in Insein township of Yangon region on July 12, and confiscated the narcotics, the CCDAC said. A total of nine suspects in connection with the case were arrested between July 12 and July 17 in the regions of Yangon, Bago and Mandalay, the report said. Investigation showed that the narcotics were destined for Malaysian waters, the report said. The suspects were charged under the country's law, and further investigations are ongoing.

Missing man found drowned in Sungai Long
KUALA LUMPUR: A young man reported missing since last Thursday (July 17) was found drowned in Tasik Bukit Enggang, Sungai Long in Kajang on Monday morning. Kajang police chief ACP Naazron Abdul Yusof said his team received a report at 7.30am from a local man fishing at the lake. He said a team of police and Fire and Rescue Department personnel went to the scene to help recover the victim's body, which was found floating in the middle of the lake about 10 feet (3.05 metres) from the banks. "Investigations found that the victim was a 25-year-old local man who was reported missing last Thursday in Puchong. A Honda RS150 motorcycle and a black helmet, believed to be the victim's, were also found on the side of the road near Monkey Canopy, Sungai Long," he said in a statement yesterday. Naazron said the body was sent to Kajang Hospital for a post-mortem, with drowning confirmed as the cause of death. A physical examination also found no signs of injury linked to criminal elements. "A sudden death investigation is underway. Individuals with information about the incident can contact the Sungai Long police station chief Sergeant Abang Faizul Abang Bujang at 012-9208851 or any nearby station," he added. - BERNAMA

Doctor Arrested Again Over Molest Claim By Another Patient
BALIK PULAU, July 22 (Bernama) -- A doctor has been arrested again for investigations into an alleged molestation of a female patient at a private clinic in Bayan Baru here. Barat Daya police chief ACP Sazalee Adam said the 43-year-old male doctor was detained at the Barat Daya police headquarters (IPD) at 8 pm yesterday after being asked to attend a query into the case. "Police received a report regarding the incident from a woman who claimed that at 11.46 am on June 29, she had sought treatment at a private clinic in Bayan Baru for abdominal pains. "While in the examination room, the doctor treating her told her to take off her clothes and touched her breasts. The victim, who was unhappy with the conduct, filed a police report regarding the incident on July 18," he said when contacted by Bernama today. He said following the detention of the doctor, who works at a hospital in the state, police also seized a mobile phone belonging to him to help in the investigation. Meanwhile, acting Penang police chief Datuk Mohd Alwi Zainal Abidin confirmed with Bernama that the doctor was the same medical officer who was previously arrested for indecent behaviour towards female patients in the state. He said the man has been remanded for three days until July 23 to assist in investigations under Section 354 of the Penal Code. Previous media reports said a doctor was detained three times after allegations of indecent behaviour at a hospital and two private clinics in the Northeast district involving three female victims. The man was investigated then under Section 509 of the Penal Code for insulting modesty and Section 14 of the Minor Offences Act 1955 for indecent conduct.
