Georgia baseball's final ranking after disappointing end to year
The Georgia Bulldogs baseball team ended the 2025 season with their lowest ranking all season in the USA TODAY Sports baseball coaches poll. Georgia dropped nine spots to No. 15 in the poll after being eliminated following losses to Duke and Oklahoma State in the Athens Regional.
For a second straight season, Georgia earned a top eight national seed, but was unable to make it to the College World Series. The Bulldogs undoubtedly had an impressive season in the SEC, but they went 0-2 against Power Four competition in the NCAA Tournament and are now looking to rebuild ahead of the 2026 season.
Just two SEC teams advanced to the College World Series, but the LSU Tigers, who are ranked No. 1 in the coaches poll took home the national championship. The last six national champions dating back to 2019 have all been SEC teams (no national champion was named in 2020).
Georgia figures to bounce back in 2026. The Bulldogs finished the 2025 season with a 43-17 record, but disappointed in the SEC Tournament and the NCAA Tournament.
Georgia pitcher Kolten Smith recently became the latest Dawg to enter the transfer portal. Georgia currently has On3's No. 43 ranked transfer class.

Class of 2026 Offensive Lineman Chooses Mizzou Over Bill Belichick originally appeared on Athlon Sports. Head coach Eli Drinkwitz and company received some good news on Sunday evening. Brandon Anderson, a three-star offensive lineman from Kennesaw, Georgia (North Cobb High School) committed to Mizzou over Tennessee and North Carolina. The 6-foot-4, 320-pound product originally committed to Tennessee but reopened his search in January. Advertisement He took his official visit to Mizzou the weekend of June 6 and felt right at home. "I picked Missouri because it feels like it's my home," Anderson told 247Sports of his decision. "When I first got up there it felt like family and the coaches showed so much love to my family and throughout my recruiting process." Missouri Tigers head coach Eli Biggerstaff-Imagn Images 247Sports ranks Anderson as the No. 29 interior offensive lineman for the class of 2026. He is the eighth commit for Missouri's class, and second offensive lineman, joining Khalief Canty who pledged to the Tigers less than a week ago. During his recruiting process, Anderson, developed a connection with Tigers offensive line coach Brandon Jones. Advertisement "He is a very cool coach," Anderson said of Jones. "He grew up how I grew up and he understands the game of football. He likes my athleticism, footwork, and he said I could come in and start as a true freshman." Anderson is the fourth player to commit to the Tigers in the last week. Mizzou's recruiting class currently ranks 76th in the nation and 15th among SEC schools. However, a number of players with Mizzou among their favorites are expected to announce next month, including four-star tight end out of Iowa Evan Jacobson and JJ Bush, a four-star linebacker from Alabama. Three Detroit Tigers make list of 2025 MLB All-Star Game finalists heading into Phase 2
Next month's MLB All-State Game in Atlanta might have a decidedly Motor City feel if the voting trends continue. If All-Star Game voting ended now, the Detroit Tigers would have three players starting July 15 for the American League team: Gleyber Torres at second base, Riley Greene in left field and Javier Báez in center field (not including Tarik Skubal, who is expected to be picked as the starting pitcher by AL manager Aaron Boone). Advertisement But voting hasn't ended. It has only transitioned from Phase 1 to Phase 2, with Báez, Greene and Torres making the cut for the Tigers. There are two parts of fan voting: Phase 1 ran from June 4-26 and included all MLB players, with fans voting for the players they want to start at each position and the top two vote-getters at each position (and the top six in the outfield) advancing. Phase 2, meanwhile, runs from June 30-July 2; the vote totals are reset and fans vote online on the smaller pool of players to determine the starters at each position. FRIENDLY ADVICE: Why Tigers might not have Gleyber Torres without Gio Urshela Detroit Tigers second baseman Gleyber Torres, left, (25) takes the field alongside left fielder Riley Greene (31) during their game against the Chicago Cubs at Comerica Park in Detroit on Saturday, June 7, 2025. Celebrate 125 epic seasons of the Tigers with our new book! Advertisement MLB announced the results of Phase 1 on Thursday, June 26. Fans can vote for the remaining position players — including Torres, Greene and Báez — in Phase 2 to determine the AL starters at through noon on July 2, with starters to be announced that night. Meanwhile, pitchers and reserve selections are determined by player vote and the commissioner's office. The full All-Star Game rosters will be announced July 6. New York Yankees slugger Aaron Judge received the most Phase 1 votes (4,012,983) among all AL players, giving him an automatic starting spot in the All-Star Game, which takes place at Truist Park in Atlanta. Judge's automatic nod also shrinks the outfield finalist pool a bit — only the top four advance for the final two spots in the AL. In the NL, Designated hitter Shohei Ohtani received the most votes, getting that league's automatic spot. Wilson made a difficult layup on a feed from Chelsea Gray to make it 83-81 after Jackie Young snared an offensive rebound for the Aces. Breanna Stewart had 21 points and nine rebounds, and Natasha Cloud scored 20 points for New York, which has lost four of its last five games. Sabrina Ionescu added 14 points on 5-of-15 shooting. Atlanta held a double-digit lead the entire third quarter and for most of the fourth until Marine Johannes capped the scoring with 1:05 left on a 3-pointer. Gray made 3-pointers on back-to-back possessions to finish with 10 points in the fourth quarter and give Atlanta an 88-70 lead. Advertisement The Dream scored 62 points in the paint — their most since the 2012 season. The Dream led 47-34 at halftime despite going 0 for 10 behind the arc and 5 of 12 from the foul line. Atlanta shot 21 of 29 inside the arc, scoring 40 points in the paint. New York shot 37.5% but after Stewart and Cloud, who both had 11 points, the rest of the team was just 4 of 16. SKY 92, SPARKS 85 LOS ANGELES (AP) — Angel Reese scored a season-high 24 points and became the first WNBA player with 15 or more rebounds in four straight games, finishing with 16 boards and leading Chicago to a victory over Los Angeles, who retired Candace Parker's No. 3 jersey at halftime. Advertisement Reese had 11 points in the fourth quarter and gave the Sky an 85-74 lead on a three-point play with 2 1/2 minutes to go. She had 19, 17 and 18 rebounds in her previous three games. She also had seven assists and two blocks on Sunday. Parker, a two-time MVP and Chicago native, played 13 seasons for the Sparks, two for the Sky and one for the Las Vegas Aces. She won titles with the Sparks in 2016, the Sky in 2021 and the Aces in 2023, her final season. The Sky will also retire her jersey later this summer. Reese had a basket as Chicago got the last four points of the third quarter to pull within 62-61. She scored six straight points early in the fourth to help Chicago take the lead for good. Ariel Atkins added 20 points for Chicago, Kia Nurse scored 14 off the bench, Rachel Banham had 13 and Elizabeth Williams 12. Advertisement Kelsey Plum led the Sparks with 22 points and Dearica Hamby added 20 points and 10 rebounds. Azura Stevens scored 17 points and Emma Cannon had 15 off the bench. Courtney Williams had 12 points, nine rebounds, seven assists and two steals for the Lynx (14-2), who are 8-0 at home. Minnesota had 11 of 12 players score on the way to a season-high total. Only Karlie Samuelson, who sustained an ankle injury after playing three minutes in the first half, did not score. Advertisement McBride had five 3-pointers, one more than the Sun, to give her 653 for her career. That moved her past Kristi Tolliver for seventh in league history. Reserve Aneesah Morrow had 16 points, 11 rebounds and five steals for the Sun (2-15), who shot 35%. Olivia Nelson-Ododa added 10 points. VALKYRIES 84, STORM 57 SAN FRANCISCO (AP) — Tiffany Hayes scored 21 points, Veronica Burton contributed 15 points, five rebounds and five assists, and Golden State ran away from Seattle Storm for a victory. Valkyries leading scorer Kayla Thornton headed to the locker room at the 9:22 mark of the third quarter appearing to hold her neck, and the team said she was undergoing further evaluation without providing details of the injury. She shot 1 for 9 and missed all five of her 3-point tries, held to two points while grabbing five rebounds. Her teammates picked up the slack — on both ends of the floor. Advertisement Skylar Diggins had 18 points, six assists and five rebounds for Seattle, which came in leading the league in field-goal percentage at 47.0% but was limited to a season-low 27% (20 for 74) by the stingy Golden State defense. The Storm had only been held below 40% once, shooting 33.3% in the season opener at Phoenix on May 17. Laeticia Amihere added 15 points and eight rebounds as the Valkyries jumped out to a quick 7-0 lead before Nneka Ogwumike's shot at the 6:58 mark and made five of their first eight shots for a 13-4 advantage.
