Mum tells 300 students partying at 2am to be quiet because her daughter has exam
A desperate mum pleaded with students having a raucous party next door to quiet down so her daughter could study for her GCSEs.
The parent was mocked for being a 'Karen' as she told around 300 university students to turn down the volume at their garden party.
A TikTok video timestamped 1.34am on June 2 shows the mum telling revellers her daughter has an exam at 9am.
Police eventually broke up the end-of-year bash at around 2am, which included laser lights and external speakers on Cliff Road in Leeds.
But students continued to rave in the street, with some blasting music from a car for another hour after being told by officers to go home.
First-year Gene Vale, 19, who is studying cybersecurity at Leeds Beckett University, arrived at the outdoor garden party at 12.45am.
He said: 'We were just chilling and this woman just barges in – there's an alleyway next to the house, so you can just walk through an alleyway.
'She walks through the alleyway and barges through everyone, goes straight up to the DJ and says, 'can you turn it off?'
'He says 'oh, you're ruining the party' and everything and then she tries to explain her daughter has a 9am exam the next morning and says 'you're not being very considerate'.
'Obviously, it didn't really end up working out for her, because the guy who actually was DJ'ing didn't really care.'
He added that while he had sympathy for the mum, he wouldn't have complained if he had been in her shoes.
Vale said: 'Obviously it was their last big send-off party, you just have to put yourself in their shoes and think how gutted I would be if someone was complaining.'
Others online were more critical of student gatherings. Another person sitting an exam wrote how their sleep was disrupted by a party next door.
They said: 'Not a Karen, it's reasonable? I had a 9am chemistry exam and the uni house next door had a party.
'Went into the exam absolutely knackered. Just go clubbing or do the party on a weekend like a normal person.'
A spokesperson for Leeds City Council said: 'Incidents like this remain rare, largely due to the strong partnership working and investment that's been made over time by Leeds City Council's Dedicated Service, a project jointly funded by University of Leeds and Leeds Beckett University.
'With regards to this incident, the Dedicated Service out-of-hours noise team received two calls from one resident relating to a large house party with external speakers and laser lights. More Trending
'Council officers arrived on site and unacceptable noise was witnessed from a distance of 100 metres.
'When the officers approached the house there were approximately 300 people in the garden area and an unknown number inside the house itself. Initial requests to turn the music off were refused, however once the tenant of the property had been spoken to the music was turned off and people started to disperse.
'Due to the number of people leaving the address, police attendance was requested.
'The occupants of the address in question have been dealt with under the Environmental Protection Act 1990 via the Leeds Anti-Social Behaviour Team with further investigations on-going.'

Disney 'pays $5,750,000 to star actress over Weinstein sexual assault claims'
Actress Julia Ormond has been paid $5.75 million (£4.32million) by the Walt Disney Co after alleging she was assaulted by Harvey Weinstein. The company, which owned Weinstein's company Miramax, paid the Legends of the Fall actor, 60, in an out-of-court settlement per court documents. She sued Disney and Miramax as well as her former agents at Creative Artists Agency (CAA), accusing Disney of 'negligent supervision and retention' of Weinstein. Ormond has also accused CAA of failing to protect her from abuse, with them denying the claims. In the suit, according to the Daily Mail, she claims that she met Weinstein in New York in 1995 for dinner and to discuss plans to make a film about Beryl Markham, which never came to be made. Ormond alleges that after the meeting, set up by CAA, Weinstein insisted on continuing the discussions at her apartment in Manhattan. She claims that she was so 'inebriated' at the apartment that she could not put her keys in the door, and that Weinstein 'stripped her naked' and climbed on top of her. The court documents continue to say that Weinstein forced her to give him a massage, masturbated, and forced Ormond to 'perform oral sex on him.' In the previous year, Ormond claims that Weinstein offered to be a 'sperm donor' for her and described his behaviour as 'relentless sexual harassment.' Ormond said the assault was 'catastrophic both personally and professionally' due to Weinstein's influence in the world of film. The court documents contain excerpts from a memoir that Ormond began writing in 2017, in which she says: 'I vaguely remember in London before ever getting to New York, him emerging in a dressing gown… I think he barked at staff who had then left… I think I fairly flatly turned down or laughed off an invite to watch him shower.' After the alleged assault, she wrote that she felt she had 'done something really stupid with Harvey' and that she complained to her agents at CAA. Disney and its subsidiary Miramax settled with Ormond on March 31, paying her $5.75m, but said the payment is not an admission of wrongdoing. Ormond's legal battle with CAA continues, with boss Bryan Lourd denying her accusations and knowing that Weinstein had ever sexually assaulted anybody. CAA has said the suit is 'baseless' and that an internal review found nothing to support Ormond's claims. It comes after a judge declared a mistrial on the third-degree rape count in Harvey Weinstein's ongoing sexual assault trial, after drama with the jury. The disgraced film mogul was initially convicted of a criminal sexual act in the first degree and rape in the third degree in February 2020. However, his 23-year sentence was overturned last year, sparking a three-week retrial in New York. To view this video please enable JavaScript, and consider upgrading to a web browser that supports HTML5 video After a second round of hearings, the 73-year-old was convicted of sexually assaulting Miriam Haley in June and acquitted of a second charge stemming from sexual assault accusations made by Kaja Sokola. The jury struggled to reach a unanimous verdict on a third count involving Jessica Mann and, after further deliberations failed, Judge Curtis Farber declared a mistrial. More Trending Prosecutors are now said to be planning to retry Weinstein on the rape charge, stemming from Mann's accusations. Weinstein has been at the centre of rape or sexual misconduct allegations from more than 100 people, with some claims dating back to the 1970s. The allegations sparked the Me Too movement, which highlighted sexual violence in the film industry, as well as worldwide. To view this video please enable JavaScript, and consider upgrading to a web browser that supports HTML5 video Another week, another true crime thriller for fans to dig their teeth into – this time with an acclaimed cast. The tense eight-episode drama, Under the Bridge, has finally landed on ITV for viewers to watch for free in the UK, and you are in for an emotional rollercoaster. The 2024 series stars Oscar nominee Lily Gladstone opposite Daisy Jones and the Six actor Riley Keough. Described as a 'haunting drama inspired by a tragic true story', we follow 'A writer and a cop investigate a brutal murder tied to a group of troubled teens.' Partially based on the book of the same name by Rebecca Godfrey (portrayed by Riley in the show), the story delves into the 1997 case of 14-year-old Reena Virk, the child of Indian immigrants, who attends an island party but never returns home. The Killers of the Flower Moon star portrays cop Cam Bentland. Securing a neat 86% on Rotten Tomatoes, the show has been widely praised by fans for its impactful storyline. 'I thought it was phenomenal and one of the only TV shows I have given a 10/10. I have trouble focusing [while] watching new shows, and I sat through this like a hawk,' Google reviewer Nevada Sassin said, calling Gladstone's acting 'raw and completely real'. User kg dubbed it an 'incredible show' they 'binged all at once' and Nelson agreed it was a 'great series about a horrible crime. All the depictions of the main protagonists are very well done.' 'Transfixed from the first episode! Heartbreaking true story and the characters and actors portraying them were all spellbinding, some you loved, some you detested which is a compliment to all the actors involved!' Gary Marsland shared. Yes, Under the Bridge is based on a real-life case of Reena Virk, a 14-year-old Girl from British Columbia in Canada who was beaten and drowned in 1997. It ultimately resulted in the sentencing of six teenagers, who would become known as 'the shoreline six'. The show, which also draws inspiration from Virk's father Manjit's 2008 memoir, has fictionalised aspects of the tale for the small screen, including the invention of Gladstone's character within the narrative. Over on X, user Hassan wrote: 'Just binge-watched Under The Bridge and it was great! Riley Keough, Lily Gladstone, and the supporting cast are phenomenal in this true-crime series… 'But it's the criminally underrated ARCHIE PANJABI who completely blew me away with her heartbreaking performance. What a talent!' 'This goes straight to my top 2024 TV shows. This binge-watching was a hell of an emotional roller coaster: from sadness, to anger, to frustration to the even the final acceptance and understanding,' Sandra echoed. More Trending In an interview with Variety, Gladstone opened up about the importance of portraying this story sensitively and with Reena at the heart of it. The indigenous actor, 38, said: 'You get a chance to love her. She's not just a young brown woman's body experiencing violence. This is a human being attached to a generations-long legacy in history. 'You feel the immensity of the loss when you see who she is in the landscape of her whole family and get to know her as a girl you could be friends with.' Meanwhile, @CriticSusan added: 'Conversations with a Killer: The Son of Sam Tapes may be one of their best true crime docu-series. @Netflix.' Towards the beginning of the series, viewers are shown how the Bronx native was adopted in 1953 before he became the '.44 Caliber Killer' and 'Son of Sam' due to the signature he left on letters at crime scenes and sent to media outlets. When Berkowitz was finally arrested and put on trial, he claimed his neighbor's dog, Sam, was possessed by a demon and commanded him to kill. But, in an interview from 1980 we hear how Berkowitz fabricated this story to create confusion and manipulate the media and law enforcement. A character playing Berkowitz also featured in another Netflix series by David Fincher called Mindhunter, which ran for two seasons. In June it was teased that the rudely axed series could be getting a Hollywood makeover for a film revival. There is a potential to bring back the show as not only one movie but an entire trilogy, with creator Fincher carefully vetting the scripts. More Trending Holt McCallany, who starred as FBI special agent Bill Tench, recently spoke to the Fight Club director. 'I had a meeting with David Fincher in his office a few months ago, and he said to me that there is a chance that it may come back as three two-hour movies, but I think it's just a chance,' he told CBR. 'I know there are writers that are working, but you know, David has to be happy with scripts.' View More » Conversations with a Killer: The Son of Sam Tapes is available to watch on Netflix.
