Often looked at with the corner of the eye for his flamboyance and inhibition-free thought process, Gibbs ruffled the fans of Virat Kohli by criticising his technique. The former South Africa batter, whose muscling of the fast bowlers was as famous as his notorious lifestyle off the field, said Rohit Sharma has a far better technique than Kohli.

It all started when a fan posted a comparison video of Kohli and Rohit Sharma. Kohli was seen playing a cover drive against the turn while Rohit, to a delivery pitched in a similar region, decided to play a booming sweep shot. The fan claimed the biggest difference between Kohli and Rohit was that even in his worst days, Rohit adapted to the conditions and the bowler but Kohli didn't. He continued to play the same way even after it got him into trouble.
Gibbs took note of that video and wrote: "It's up to the batting coach to give him more options to score no matter who the batter is.. thank me later."
Nothing controversial here but it's what happened in the threads of this post that created all the noise. Gibbs was answering fan queries to justify his point. "A coach can't force you to play shots you don't normally play but encourage you to add to your scoring repertoire," he repied when a fan asked him to elaborate more on the batting coach's role.
While Gibbs was replying to fans, one of them asked, "What do you think, which batsman is technically correct among the two??"
"Rohit was always more technically correct than virat but Virat's desire to dominate especially in white ball format is a major difference between the two batters," Gibbs replied.
Yes, it was that easy and straightforward for Gibbs, almost shooting from point-blank distance.
When a fan disagreed with Gibbs' assesment by stating that Rohit has never had a settled batting position in Test cricket, the former South Africa batter countered by saying: "You ever see Rohit defend balls on 4th or 5th stump ? How many times did Virat get out doing just that ? Rohit definitely technically better than Virat."
Rohit and Kohli, two stalwarts of India's batting unit for the last 15 years or so, retired from Test cricket in a span of five days, leaving a huge void in India's batting unit before the England tour.

"The political situation in Bangladesh is not stable, and in light of the diplomatic standoff, the Indian government has advised the BCCI not to go ahead with this tour," the source said. Both the countries are facing trade-related tensions at the moment after the Indian government imposed a major import route restrictions on goods, which includes ready-made garments and processed food items from Bangladesh. The Directorate General of Foreign Trade (DGFT) has also issued a notification that no ready-made garment products can enter India via northeast-based integrated check posts (ICPs). It came after Bangladesh imposed a similar restriction in April. According to the Future Tours Programme (FTP), India are set to travel to Australia in October-November for three ODIs and five T20Is. Post that, India will host South Africa in November-December for two Tests, three ODIs and five T20Is. If the Bangladesh tour is called off, Rohit and Virat will return in India colours in Australia.

As he prepares for the NC Classic, the two-time national champion hopes to reach his season's best mark. 'If there's an 80m mark, I believe I can reach it. The first thing is, you need to be fit to compete. Secondly, I don't want to aggravate my injury. I'm confident I can produce a personal best throw. My goal is to throw close to my season's best of 83.40 metres," said Rohit ahead of the Neeraj Chopra Classic, a world athletics gold-level event. 'In Taipei, I recorded a throw of 74.40 metres. I was dealing with an injury earlier, so I was being cautious to avoid aggravating it. I spoke to the physio, and he assured me there was no serious issue — just some tightness. There was a bit of load, so I competed with caution. I had set a target of 70 to 80 metres in Taiwan, so 74.40 was a good result. It was raining there, but overall, it went fine," he added. Discussing the home advantage at the World Athletics gold-level meet, Rohit said, 'I've competed on this ground many times before, so that definitely gives us a bit of an advantage. When the venue changes, things can feel different, but here everything is familiar — the ground is well-maintained, the facilities are good, and there's no issue with food and other arrangements. That's the home advantage — the comfort and familiarity, and of course, the crowd support." Rohit further mentioned that while many athletes thrive on crowd energy, he finds his rhythm in focus and silence. 'But to be honest, I'm someone who prefers silence. I know most athletes feed off the crowd's energy, but personally, I like it quiet. If it's the kind of crowd that claps in rhythm, that's fine. But when people start shouting randomly, it can feel distracting, like things are out of control. It's not that I have a problem with the cheering — I just prefer to stay focused on my throw, regardless of the noise," he said. Expressing his excitement about the first international javelin throw competition to be held in India, Rohit said, 'This is happening for the first time, and I'm very happy about it — not just me, but the entire country. All of us javelin throwers are excited because world-class athletes are coming to compete here. Neeraj (Chopra) is also competing, and I last shared the field with him in 2022. Now, I'll get the opportunity to compete alongside him again, as well as with top international athletes," he concluded.
